Busy around 8 on a Tuesday evening. They have a good size outdoor seating area that was almost full given the nice weather. Indoor was mostly high top tables. Burgers are named with an NYC theme which added to the fun. It's all about the Burgers, that said, they offer Chicken and Falafel Burgers, couple of salads and Milkshakes. Ordered the Flatiron Spicy and it didn't disappoint. Grass feed Beef grilled on an open flame, cooked medium wrapped by a Brioche Bun made for a tasty Burger. It's dinner time in Brussels and you're far from home so you want something familiar but what can you get. Let me tell you that the reviews are true, the hype is real and the food is phenomenal. We went to Manhattn's Burgers and the atmosphere, decor and food make for a great experience. You go up to the order station, place your order (everything is a la carte) and they give you a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready. We waited about 10 minutes and our burgers were ready. I ordered the Gatsby Burger with Irish Angus Beef, Swiss Emmental, Sautéed Mushrooms, Black Truffle Mayo, Crispy Bacon, and Lettuce. This is without a doubt the best burger I've had in many many years. The Brioche toasted bun and burger was full of flavor and then some. I truly couldn't get enough and as I started to get half way finished, I slowed down to savor every bite left. The fries were great with the secret sauce, my children got the Gotham Burger and Rockefeller Burger which they loved as well. I will definitely be back to Manhattn's Burgers before I leave. Who has a burger in Bruxelles? Apparently, I do. It's a neat spot with New York City styled burgers and fries (not frites) and a few beers on tap with sodas and such. If you've had enough waffles and moules, then perhaps a nice beefy melty cheeseburger is what you're in the mood for. My cheeseburger was excellent with a grilled bun, a serious beef patty (cooked medium/medium-well), lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle plus plenty of melted cheese. Quite the mouthful and delicious. Hmmm... not sure which came first Shake Shack or this. Talk about deja vu! Walk up to a counter.... yep order a burger from the menu... yep... add fries...ok check. And if you want a beer or wine, go for that too! Yep then pay and go find a seat as they hand you the infamous vibrating light up coaster to alert you when your food is ready. Decor, light wood dark walls. Then you drink a sip of a local Belgian beer and poof. The similarities end. You see the beer alone is the main point of separation. The burger is solid. Maybe... I dunno! It's been 3 weeks since I had one! Been eating local fare throughout Europe and surprisingly.... burgers are not a staple although you can order one. So muscle memory has deteriorated greatly on this quintessential American staple. How you say? I ate the thing by cutting it in half then in quarters then..... wait for it...wait for it.... knife and fork! #1 who ate a frightening array of proteins during his tour of Brugge earlier in the day is looking at me funny. Brugge you say? "What's in FN Brugge?" Waxing poetic Colin Ferrell, from the movie that helped put this many time UNESCO honored spot on the consciousness of America. He had duck, rabbit, herring, pork today. And wasn't interested in adding cow to his critter crudités. But with a puzzled look on his face he eyeballs me like a doctor carefully watching the movements of a patient. What! I finally say? "Ah since when do you eat your burgers like a steak?" That had me completely gobsmacked! I wasn't even aware of it. Well the thing was tall and thick; not easy to pick up without all the stuff falling out the back. So I proceeded with caution, as to not soil the front of my shirt with gooey gruyere and button mushrooms perfectly round and slippery. Any attempt to pick up and squeeze would likely have shot out a shroom projectile and taken someone's eye out. Besides I was drinking a large chalice of Stella Artois, and It just seemed proper form to use cutlery. The Stella was pure unadulterated and so good. I'm not sure I can drink the stuff we get in the states again with a straight face. This is still smooth but has a Carmel deep complexity that is not present in American version. More like Yuengling... you guessed it! But still more bite in a good way. So with just a couple more days in Europe, I've figured out some things. The pommes frites are way better than American fries and they use mayo vs catsup to dip in. The cheese has punch, the meats bold, the bread ooh la la! And the beer is richer,creamer, bolder. So I consider this place like a decompression chamber for my pallet. I'm getting ready for reentry to America. Naw the hell with that! mussels in wine, garlic and cream calling our names tonight! We had only one afternoon in Brussels at the end of our trip.  We had tired of the typical Belgian lunch fare of omelets, croques, and salads.  I wanted a hamburger.  A really good grilled burger.  We looked up this restaurant on Yelp and it was easy to find and near the main square in Brussels while also being on a not-as-busy side street.  Since it was a cold day we opted to eat inside but they do have outside tables.  This is primarily a burger place.  You can get a chicken or falafel burger, a salad, and a shake but really, their raison d'être is hamburgers.  They specialize in burgers and do it well.  You get to choose the toppings, sauces and the sides.  My wife and I both loved our burgers.  From the buns to the toppings they were just right.  My wife got the Rockefeller which had bacon, matured cheddar, lettuce and caramelized onions on hers.  It comes with barbecue sauce but she nixed that. I got the Flatiron Spicy Burger with matured cheddar, pickled jalapeños, mild harissa sauce and lettuce.  We shared some of their great double fried fries and coleslaw which was unique and delicious.  It has apple in it and a spicy (chives?) yogurt sauce.  We loved it!  My wife also loved their homemade iced tea made with mint, lemon and sugar.  I had a very satisfying IPA.  On their website they speak of getting all their Angus beef from one family run Irish farm and their bread from local artisanal bakers.  The place has room for lots of folks.  At the time we were there, about 3pm, it wasn't crowded.  But then it was a weekday in November.  I have no doubt that this place hops at other times.  It was fun to hear classic rock on the sound system.  It fit the ambiance.  We checked to see if this chain is also in Barcelona where we live. Alas, it isn't.  We have other burger places in Barcelona, but would seek this place out again if we found ourselves near one. The original plan for lunch fell through so we came here. It was very popular and thought why not. One of the employees came up to us and explained that this is based off American burgers and when asked where we were from we said "America." The burgers are named after NYC nick names and sights which was not bad. This meal was expensive! Something not traditionally American, fries are seperate! It was cheaper to go next door to Fritland and get a large order of fries for 1 euro 20 cents! That would have easily fed me and my two kids. We each ordered a burger, bacon was extra for my kids and the avocado was as well. Once we got our meal we were excited to eat, the burger was not that bad. Juicy and we loved the cheese. The bun was brioche which was okay. The fries were meh. This isn't a place to scream about. For the price I paid I was expecting a little more. read more

I went here because I love experiencing what other people imagine NYC is like. They may have Manhattan confused with Brooklyn, but the burgers were actually pretty good. Brooklyn (lager) on tap was a nice touch, even if it seems a little wrong in Belgium. Especially in a city like Brussels when everything is either closed at 6pm or inundated with tourists, this is a surprisingly excellent choice. Simple and good. Low overhead due to self service. You order up front and wait for your buzzer, then get your food. Burgers were very good and tasty, good portion to include the fries. Cold beer on tap, but only three brands. That's still fine. Overall very nice, only minor thing is the burgers are served in wire baskets with paper, it the baskets were a little greasy. On the way out, we saw that they wipe down the baskets by hand, but hopefully they deep clean them overnight. read more
