We heard about Hollywood Diamond through word-of-mouth, and thought we could sit down to educate ourselves about diamonds, as well as try on some settings. Thach and his wife had the patience of saints to sit down with us for 2 hours to educate us on the 4 C's of a diamond, lab vs. mined, sizing, settings, literally any question and concern we could think of - Thach took seriously and alleviated our thoughts. Overall, it was a very pleasant, low pressure experience and to seal the deal, the pricing was unbeatable when we compared to online retailers. The cherry on top was that we were visiting from Vancouver, and Hollywood Diamond was able to get the ring completed for us in 10 days! (A girl can dream a little.) So years ago I sent my BF a picture of a ring. I didn't think he would have saved it and it was a low resolution photo too (our phones' quality weren't as great as they are now). He told me he went to Hollywood Diamond with this photo and they worked with him every step of the way to recreate this ring. They showed him the diamonds available. They also taught him how to look at diamonds and understand the quality of each. They had a prototype made so he can see how the band would look before placing the diamonds on. They did a few adjustments until it was perfect. He told me the whole process took less than a month. I'm so in love with my engagement ring. It is a dream come true! I no longer have to look at photos since I can wear it in reality. I did have to get my ring resized. Did you know that your fingers thin during the winter? They gave me those ring guards for free! The ring resize process was effortless. They had the ring ready for pick up the very next day!

We were paired with a salesman named Arya (no longer employed there) who made us feel pressured, belittled my wishes, and only showed us their "artisan" diamonds (mined diamonds were not even mentioned during this experience). Eventually after trying on rings and asking questions when we could (he split his attention between us and another couple), he took us to a room and talked my fiancé into a larger diamond than I felt comfortable with (my fiancé is paying for the ring, but I have to wear it everyday). We were pressured to put a refundable "hold deposit" on the diamond we chose, despite my telling Arya repeatedly that we literally just got engaged and weren't ready. We went back 2 weeks later to collect our hold deposit and try our luck at their Mississauga location. I'd love to say that experience went over better, however, that would not be the truth. Needless to say, I will not be a returning customer to Spence for anything important. If I want a paid of artisan diamond stud earrings, sure, but for a piece of jeweler I will be showcasing on myself for the rest of my life, not a chance.

You don't have to go to Yorkville for an amazing jewellery shopping experience (although, they do have another store there, and worth the visit). This family owned business is a customer service dream. Every time I've visited, no matter which members of staff are on hand, the service is spectacular. The older members are warm, friendly, and will pass you along to the other members whose English is fluent if you don't speak Italian (although they're more than able to show and get you started with whatever you came in looking for). They offer high end merchandise, such as Mont Blanc pens and accessories, Wellendorf rings, and Breitling (and even higher end) watches, as well as Bulgari, Gucci, and other designer jewellery. They do have more affordable but excellent quality items, such as Victorinox watches. I wish I could remember the name of which staff helped me select a gift for my man, because this sales staff really took the time to show and explain every possible option that fit my criteria, and worked very diligently with me to cover all kinds of concerns with each choice. I don't know if they do this with every brand of item they carry, but they were willing to work out pricing on the items I was interested in. This is the only jeweller in Ontario that carries actual Wellendorf rings in stock. My partner and I got a very good laugh out of the comment that these little things can command "brain damage prices", but, I have to say, having seen items like this firsthand and looking at them from my art appreciator's eye, it really starts to make you wish you had more money than brains, because so many of these pieces are like works of art. It's a real treat to come in and enjoy a shopping experience like this. I haven't come in for a long enough visit (and big enough budget) to really invest time and money into something more serious, but I suspect that's when your visit also includes service from the espresso machine that's clearly there for prolonged customer visits.
