He then directed us to a mechanic who was just some guy with some equipment in a parking lot. We were in a rush so we followed Brian's advice and had this mechanic install our new alternator. The next morning, our car again wouldn't start, and we took it to a more legitimate auto shop nearby. They told us our battery was the issue and replaced it quickly, which actually fixed our problem. TLDR: Brian either inadvertently misled us or intentionally scammed us into buying an alternator ($350) and installation ($250) that we likely didn't need.
