Overall: First-rate view/location, better than average food, decent service, slightly pricey. Go here to get all of the views without the crowds, and enjoy a decent, though pricey meal.
Let's first talk location - this restaurant is located at the Manly Pavilion. It's upstairs, not on the main level. Thus, when I walked up to the building, I wasn't exactly sure whether it was deserted or not. I noticed a sign about a girls' brunch special for the upcoming weekend, which led me to peek around the corner of the stairs, which had hints of life. I ventured up the stairs to find a cozy, tastefully decorated restaurant with an amazing view of Manly Wharf. Being just a short walk from the pier and slightly tucked away means that it was nearly empty when I got there fairly early for dinner (6:30-ish) on a Wed. It was easy to get a table on the terrace, right at the edge to look out onto the water.
Food - I had the spanner crab linguine entree (entrees in Australia being apps/starters/the entry into dinner), a side of broccolini, and the tiramisu. The pasta was delicious - it came w squash blossoms, a fair amount of crab and a very light, creamy sauce. Unfortunately, the broccolini was drowning in olive oil and was a bit overcooked/limp. The tiramisu was good--not above average, nor below. The serving was very generous, more than I could eat.
Service - I had more than one person covering my table and uneven service. It seemed like they both came by, nearly at the same time and then both disappeared for extended periods of time, at the same time. If I had been in more of a hurry, I would have been frustrated. Luckily, I had plenty of time and wanted to enjoy a leisurely meal to watch the sunset.
Prices - the prices are a bit high for the slightly uneven food and service. However, they aren't unreasonable given the view. I've definitely been to other restaurants with similarly spectacular views that charge more for a less satisfying experience. read more
