I first contacted him in the fall on 2019 to be the DJ at our July 2020 wedding. Because of the pandemic we had to reschedule our wedding twice. Phil honored our decision as well as the deposit that we had paid. We communicated regularly throughout our three year journey. When the time finally arrived for our wedding, we met with Phil in person a week beforehand to iron out all of the details and go over how to pronounce names. On the day of the wedding, Phil wore a tuxedo and fit in perfectly. He hit all of the cues during our ceremony and even help out beforehand with microphone placement so that we could all be heard during the ceremony. For those of you who want details: When we first met Phil (aka Manna Music) we took away the following: he was polite, he would respect our wishes, and he would keep people on the dance floor all night long. Fast forward to our wedding, he kept his promise. The dance floor was not empty one minute once the dancing started. Going back to the first meeting, Phil informed us that the most important thing to him was to respect our wishes. If there was a song that we told him not to play, he would not play it. Also, at the first meeting, Phil provided us with a website that contained thousands of songs. The best part about the website was that it offered convenient sorting options (i.e. Songs for the processional, songs for the first dance, songs for the father/daughter dance, ect...). We were required to give him a song list for the wedding before our final meeting with him (approximately 1-2 weeks before the wedding). At our final meeting, Phil review our song list as well as the pronunciation of everyone in our bridal party. He also gave us great insight on how to schedule our night (i.e. when to do the first dance, when to do the cake cutting, when to do the speeches, ect...). Without his help, our wedding would not have gone as smoothly as it did. On the wedding day, Phil arrived on time and took care of himself the entire day. That alone made him one of the best DJs you could book. We promise that if you book him, he will take care of everything. Phil also provided the audio for our ceremony, which came through crystal clear and was audible for our entire audience. We were fortunate to have Phil at Manna Music DJ our 7/27/14 wedding. We met him at an open house at The Grove in Glenview and were impressed with his professionalism, openness, and evident passion for his work. Subsequently, we met at his home where we discussed details about our ceremony and reception. He was very hospitable and provided us with the perfect suggestions for our wedding. Phil genuinely wanted to know how to make our big day special, going over his services and how he could tailor them for us. He was also very honest in excluding services that, while available, wouldn't work and would just increase the price (ex. Using lighting equipment in the middle of the day when it wouldn't be seen). Phil uses an online system that allows you to manage your playlist relatively effortlessly. You can select from a wide array of music for specific moments (ex. Cake cutting, introductions) and also make requests outside of the available music. We had a few special requests and Phil was able to find them all. Even with this easy-to-use system, Phil maintained communication with us to let us know how things were going. On the day of the wedding, Phil arrived early and set up very quickly. Our venue had a few set ups (ex. Outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour outside of a house, reception in an outdoor pavilion) but he was flexible, bringing along back up equipment if needed or if our plans changed (due to weather, humidity, etc.). Everyone loved the music. Phil incorporated our requests and played music that made sense with our selections. He was also open to guest requests to keep the party moving along while respecting our wishes. Phil was awesome! My husband and I just got married on 6/3/11. We could tell that Phil was very passionate about what he does by our lengthy conversations with him. I jokingly referred to him as the 'Tom Skilling' of DJs. He is one of the most conscientious individuals I've ever met. The only thing we struggled with slightly was his website's limitations of not being able to select more songs. Our reception lasted 6 hours and we both love music and spent a lot of time selecting the playlist. So we ended up just sending him a word document with our playlist. This worked out just fine. We were very confident in him by his high reviews, so we didn't feel the need to meet him in advance. However, Phil is such a perfectionist and worrier that he insisted that we meet him. We went to his house the night before our wedding and there we understood how serious and passionate he is. He had many books on different genres of music all over his coffee table. He then 'did his homework' and had some questions for us. It was so impressive to experience his passion and dedication to his calling.
