Having great music/MC and great food were the two top priorities for our wedding so of course we put a lot of emphasis on finding an amazing DJ and Sounds Abound went above and beyond. Starting with the owner, Tony, his communication was incredible - he was so quick to respond to every email with a solution. Tony was also so accommodating and willing to support in whatever we needed help with, which was so appreciated in the stressfulness of wedding planning. We had multiple uniquely edited files that he worked with us to incorporate into our wedding, helped incorporate cultural music, and answered every question. Our DJ, Tim, was also amazing. I had several specific requests and only had to go over everything one time and he had it down. He was attentive, detail oriented, and actually cared about our wedding going according to how we wanted it. In fact, even when it started raining in what I hoped would be an outdoor ceremony, Tim stayed out there and was willing to accommodate to whatever we wanted for our day. Additionally, several things ended up not going according to plan during our ceremony but Tim was so attentive to everything going on that he seamlessly adjusted the music to the point where no one could tell. Tim also did a great job keeping the dance floor alive, adjusting music as needed, throwing in some cultural music that we had requested, and overall having a fun mix for our guests. They connected with our venue prior to our event, so that there would be no problems before, during, and after our event. I can't believe I haven't written a review yet about our wedding DJ considering people STILL talk about him. Sounds Abound, thank you so much for being one of the best parts of our day. Kevin was our DJ and he was so comforting to work with from our very first conversation. We probably spent over an hour on the phone talking about our preferences, the flow of the night, and mapped out everything we wanted. Sounds Abound also has a really easy to use and extremely helpful program online where you can select an ideal playlist for the night. There was also a spot to add a few songs that we absolutely didn't want to be played. Kevin was energetic, had a clear voice when announcing, and kept the dance floor poppin' the ENTIRE night. Finding a DJ was the most important and most daunting task for me when it came to planning my wedding. Not only am I obsessed with music, but the energy of the DJ sets the entire tone for the wedding and whether or not your guests enjoy themselves, which was my top priority! Sounds Abound had the right package for the right price, and my husband and I were so happy with what was included (uplighting, full dj services from 4-11pm, plus two hours of setup time, etc.) But then the hard part came: picking which DJ was right for us. I am an Egyptian-American and my guest list was very eclectic, as was my music taste. Tony Ho instantly impressed us with his charisma, his energy, and his infectious smile. His experience with multicultural weddings sealed the deal for me. I started planning 18 months in advance, and Tony was incredibly patient and responsive through the entire process. He worked flawlessly with our other vendors and had even worked with my photographer and venue several times before. He coordinated perfectly with our belly dancers, and gave them a great introduction! My husband and I liked Tony more and more with each meeting, text message, and email. He was so friendly and accommodating and he made me feel like he genuinely cared about making our wedding special and exactly the way we envisioned it. I literally gave Tony a color-coded spreadsheet with music for every second of the day, complete with plenty of notes and special requests. Never once did Tony express annoyance or frustration with my frequent changes and concerns, and he made me feel so comfortable reaching out to him with anything I needed. Tony even made some fun suggestions for our quirky ceremony that truly made it unforgettable, and our guests are still talking about it. This review is long overdue, but I wanted to make sure I eventually came to leave feedback for the awesome job Sounds Abound and Tony Ho did at our wedding. My wife and I originally met with Kyle to make sure our date was available and see what options we had for DJs. We booked over a year out, so there wasn't much need for communication until the month or so leading up to the day. We had a meeting with Tony a few weeks out to discuss the details of the hall, go over the pronunciation of names, figure out which guests to keep the microphone away from, etc. Their online system is pretty awesome for choosing your big songs (first dance, father/daughter dance, etc) and creating a list of requested songs for dancing. Way more advanced than I would have ever expected from a DJ company. The day/night of, Tony was really on top of things. He played the songs we chose and threw in a lot of great choices to keep the dance floor full pretty much the entire the night. We didn't have to worry about a thing when it came to entertainment. I would definitely recommend Tony and Sounds Abound! Side note, a buddy of mine got married a little over a month before me. He also used Sounds Abound (different DJ) and their entertainment was also a blast! So, my two experiences with this company were very positive. read more

First let me say, my mother used this company for her wedding and it was a fantastic celebration! The DJ was perfectly timed with everything and did not make himself 'too' much of a presence. (I know we all hate it when a DJ makes it about himself). The DJ was able to keep the party going consistently all night! Now, my personal experience with Sounds Abound... I scheduled them for my wedding, but that is now canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I emailed my DJ asking about their policy changes in response to the global situation. Later that SAME day I received a call from the company OWNER personally offering his condolences and empathy. The owner has handled this situation with the most CLASS and KINDNESS of any vendor yet! Our wedding had multiple COVID-related delays, and Sounds Abound was incredibly accommodating, responsive, and willing to move dates with us. You can give genres, specific artists, songs, etc. You can plan as much or as little as you want, and they are all about making you feel as comfortable as possible. Our first consultations include our vision for our ceremony and reception and what we want from an emcee. Do we want him to do everything? Nothing? We call the shots and they're willing to do anything we want. Honestly, this is how all wedding vendors should be, considering people shell out a ton of money for this stuff. I got compliments for weeks afterwards from my friends! And the guys are very personable! I had 2 meetings with them and countless emails - very responsive and very nice. Most important: GREAT VALUE! We did our wedding on a Sunday, so S.A. gave us a LOT of discounts. We got the wireless speakers thrown in for free, $100 off, and I called the week of to inform them that we needed an extra hour, and they DIDN'T CHARGE US EXTRA!!! AWESOME! Our experience with Sounds Abound was so incredible and stress free that I almost do not know where to begin. Sounds Abound was very flexible on allowing us to plan our entire event via phone and email, since we live downtown and do not own a car and both have extremely hectic work schedules, this was a HUGE plus. We chose Kyle Overbey as our DJ and we also got the pleasure of working with Rufus, who was our DJ Assistant for the night. We had an outdoor wedding ceremony and the cocktail hour and reception indoors, both Kyle and Rufus were quick and efficient in setting up and moving all of the equipment quickly. After picking out our wedding venue, my fiancé and I quickly started researching wedding DJ companies. After meeting with 2 companies and being uncertain about a decision, we set up a meeting with Ken, the owner of Sounds Abound. I read many 5 star reviews on Yelp and figured the meeting would go well. We were impressed with everything - the pricing, the professionalism, as well as the equipment we were shown in their office. Ken did not push us to sign a contract - he rather told us to take time and think it over, which was a good sign. One of the DJs, Keith, happened to be in the office that day and Ken suggested we talk to him to get some ideas for our wedding. Keith has a great personality and is very outgoing. He knew his stuff. We went home and decided to go ahead and book Keith from Sounds Abound. It was a great decision! In the months leading up to the wedding, I used the Sounds Abound client planner to input all of the music I wanted to use in our wedding ceremony and reception. It was a great tool to keep me organized. At our final meeting, Keith went over everything with us and made us feel that we would be in good hands. We had an untraditional idea for our first dance song and parent dances, which was not an issue for Keith. He put together 2 versions of the song I wanted to use and emailed them to me. I had no doubt that he would make an amazing DJ on our wedding day. And he did. We could not have asked for more. He did an awesome job at being our emcee throughout the night as well as of course, keeping the dance floor packed. We played all of the songs on our "must play" list. The whole evening went very smoothly from start to finish. If I could do this all over again, I would definitely pick this company and pick Keith as our wedding DJ. We just got married on 12/13/14. When we chose the date, our venue suggested we book vendors ASAP. I did a lot of research to find my dj and wanted to make sure they were local to Naperville. I met with about five companies and the first four did not leave a good impression. When we met with Kyle Overbey at Sounds Abound (about a year out from the wedding), we knew we had to lock him in. He was laid-back but knew so much about music. We seemed to understand each other well. I told him we'd likely not put many limitations on what could be played/could not be played. Fast forward to three weeks before the wedding and we met with Kyle again. He had amazing recommendations for bridal party songs, and our last song. They weren't run of the mill songs and I appreciated that he took the time to get to know us to decide what songs would work. We felt more than confident he would do a great job. On the day of the wedding, my dad had a few surprises that he worked with Kyle on including a Frank Sinatra cover singer and a little video presentation. Kyle was ready to pump music into the cocktail hour just in case the sinatra singer bombed (thankfully all went well). Kyle had a difficult job at our wedding because he was getting requests all over the board, including a few that I put on the "do not play" list. He was kind to the guests and when my dad insisted on a song from the do not play list, Kyle came to talk to me about it and always used his best judgment. Overall, there is no way I would choose another company. Our 24x24 dance floor was PACKED from open to close. Kyle was simply the best. We also booked Sounds Abound for the photo booth. It's a must have! They do a great job putting together the scrapbook, which is a forever keepsake. Lastly we used Sounds Abound for uplighting. I found out after the fact that the original color we selected didn't look right with our colors, but Sounds Abound worked with my wedding team to come to a quick decision and it was gorgeous. We hired Sounds Abound to do our music, uplighting, and photobooth. Our venue was Bocaditos at The Brookfield Zoo. The reception space layout is kind of odd but Sounds Abound found the perfect spot for our Photo Booth and dance floor in there. They really transformed the room. The uplighting matched our color theme perfectly. I highly recommend getting lights. It will revolutionize your space. I've seen weddings at the zoo without the up-lights and it just didn't look as nice. We also had DJ lighting on the dance floor. Gotta add lights for your wedding, trust me! For photos we went with the big fun booth. Chris was our attendant. He did a great job helping guests with props, explained how the booth works once inside, and handed out lots of pictures to everyone. At the end of the night he handed me a usb thumb drive from all the pictures taken in the booth that night. He also said if we lose the drive they have back ups. Chris was friendly to everyone and did a great job with the booth. Now the music. Honestly I've never seen a better DJ feel the dance floor so well like Kyle does. If the floor was getting tired he brought it down with some chill songs. If the floor wanted to rock he kicked it up. He even came out and danced with us during some line songs. He played everything I requested. I've been to a lot of clubs and his mixes/mashups were better! He announced everything on time, got the crowd cheering, and gave a great pep talk to our wedding party when we walked out for our grand entrance. One of the best decisions that we made while planning our wedding was hiring Sounds Abounds for our DJ service and photobooth. Kyle Overbey did an amazing job! I hired Sounds Abound to DJ and MC our wedding ceremony & reception in April 2014 for our April 2015 wedding. I came across them by accident, actually - I had a consultation another company they share a space with, and met with Rufus as I arrived early. They were my first and only formal music consultation! Rufus was honest with their packages and didn't attempt to upsell me to anything we didn't need, which I appreciated. Months after I spoke with Rufus, I ran into him at a wedding expo, and he surprisingly remembered me, which won me over a bit. The value of their packages was also higher than the other DJs I had seen at expos, and I really loved their online functionality. All info can be provided to them at any time online, their forms make the standard reception idiot-proof so you don't forget anything, and their 'jukebox' feature provides you with billboard lists, common songs for all the typical wedding dances, and easy creation for "must-play" and "do not play" lists, as well as allows you to pick the over-all musical vibe for your wedding. Their responses were always under 24 hours by email both before and after booking, and they provided deposit reminders and updates for when to start thinking about different components of the event. We chose Gary as our DJ & MC, and we were so happy with him! We met with him about three weeks prior to our wedding to go over the flow of the event, and he made everything very easy. Gary was very flexible and intuitive on the day of the event, also - we changed the format of our ceremony the day before the wedding, and added a component to the reception the day of, and he pulled everything off as though it was the plan all along. Very importantly, he stuck to our "must play" and "do not play" lists, and made all our guests feel welcome - we provided some Polish music for my husband's family and friends, and controlled the flow on the dancefloor masterfully, making sure no group felt neglected.
