Security opens one hour before flights, so you don't need to arrive hours in advance. Luggage accordingly is usually ready within 15 minutes or less of deplaning. It's very easy from plane or parking lot to next destination or vacation /home. The only carrier that flies thru here is Delta. Hoping American joins them soon. See Delta's website for flight details. There are rental cars here and the islands, shopping and food are less than 20 minutes away. What's stopping you from visiting the Golden Isles? It's not as busy, you tend to get in and out of security relatively quickly, but the downfall is there aren't as many food/beverage options, and manytimes unless you're going to a larger city, you can't get a direct flight too many places. This particular time, I arrived pretty early for my flight. Luckily I already had my carry on and boarding pass, so I didn't have to go to ticketing or drop my luggage off. I had pre-check, so I went through that line. It was pretty quick, but noticed this particular time, the regular security line was quicker. Once I got through security, I headed to my gate. Jacksonville is doing some construction in their terminals, so the options are pretty slim. Hopefully that changes.

The bad: There's less direct flights than you would find at other Florida airports like Orlando or Tampa. On a recent visit, we were going away for 5 days, and wanted to park in economy parking. We used the website, saw that it was only at 85% capacity, arrived very early, saw open spots in economy parking but all of the lots were shut down. We had to move to short term which is much more expensive and there's zero guidance as to where parking is available and the guidance given is wrong. This made for an en extremely stressful experience trying to make our flight. I can't imagine how tough it must have been for those flying out later that day.

The smartest decision I made when planning my visits was to start flying into Hilton Head Airport instead of Savannah Airport. It is significantly faster, easier, and far less of a hassle. Although the airport is small, its compact size makes it incredibly convenient for inpatient travelers like me. Shorter lines, quicker security checks, and less walking. Well, walking is good for you, but sometimes you are in a hurry. Currently, the airport is undergoing renovations and a slight expansion, which is great news. These improvements will enhance the overall experience without sacrificing the ease that makes Hilton Head Airport so appealing. For me, it is a perfect choice; simple, efficient, and getting better all the time.
