We were staying at Grey Owl overnight in preparation for a family trip at a beach house close by as we arrived earlier than the rest of the family since we were hosting. We love Bed and Breakfasts spots. Our room was beautiful, clean, and immaculate. However, our interactions with the Inn Keeper, Deborah Fry, were not very palatable. We updated the team there consistently as we traveled given some necessary stops and delays, and they were appreciative for the most part, but I was concerned about several snarky comments Ms. Fry made during our stay. As a reminder, it is a privilege and honor for an establishment to have us stay there, and we were on a mini-vacation. Ms. Fry constantly reminded us that we were late. We updated here as to our arrival and arrived for breakfast at 9:10 instead of 9:00. We were told that we were "too late to know where to sit." She also argued us down about the preparation of our breakfast. She stated once to me in a rather disrespectful and uncomfortable manner from my perspective: "You had the sausage. Right, Doctor?" In fact, she prepared incorrectly and confused my order which were were required to provide ahead of time with my wife's. She also half cooked our omelettes. It's a beautiful establishment. We've been visiting SSI for years and plan to purchase property here in future. We feel that Ms. Fry was nervous around us because we were Black and when we arrived I don't believe she expected for us to be Black. It was not a very pleasant experience overall but I would remind the team here adults are not children and schedules are understandable. However, please don't yield snarky comments and make people feel like they are less than just because they are 5-10 minutes behind schedule. We likely won't stay here again. read more

I was looking for a romantic place to spend our 50th. What a perfect place. The grounds are impeccable. Every unit has it's own screened in porch with lush vegetation and bird feeders to watch. The gazebo and pond had a little walk around trail. The made to order omelette (breakfast included) were excellent. The owl theme was evident with coffee cups, salt and pepper shakers, whiskey glasses and other items. Such a nice touch. The innkeeper, Debbie was fantastic.We usually visit Ohio in June but decided we will come back to the Grey Owl Inn in November. Can't wait! read more

Oh my goodness! What a special treat to get to stay here! Gorgeous grounds, excellent service, beautiful spacious rooms, immaculately clean bed and breakfast! Breakfast was delicious and there is so much attention to details - if you are looking for a quaint yet luxurious experience come here for a visit. Booked the Grey Owl Inn for a work trip. Upon checking in I was informed that I would not be served breakfast during my stay as the breakfast is not prepared at the time I needed to leave for my conference (around 7-8:30 am). Nowhere on the website or throughout the booking process was I informed that there was a specific time I would need to be available in order to be served breakfast. Very bizarre considering the breakfast seems to be the big draw and 7/8 is not an unreasonable hour. I was not provided any sort of bagged breakfast or so much as a coffee throughout my stay. Overall the stay was fine but lacked many of the amenities of a typical hotel. The inn was also not particularly close to anything of interest. Overall, the Inn was not worth the premium. Next time I would rent a condo near the water or a hotel in a more bustling area. read more

I can't say enough great things about this wonderful Inn! The grounds were gorgeous. The common areas were inviting, warm, spacious and pristine. The attention to detail was shown at every corner of this lovely Inn. The gourmet breakfasts were prepared perfectly and were so delicious. The first morning, my husband and I both ordered omelettes with sides of bacon and sausage and it includes a grit cake. The second morning he ordered another omelette with different fillings and I had the strawberry crepes. You are provided a menu the night before for you to pick out your breakfast. It was hard to pick what you wanted because all the options sounded amazing! Every afternoon they had wine with a cheese and fruit platter put out, which was great to come back to while you relaxed before going out to dinner. They had both a red and white wine out for you to choose from. They also have a high tea hour, but we were out exploring during those times. I can't recommend this place enough. If you plan to visit the Golden Isles of Georgia, please put Grey Owl Inn at the top of your list for a place to stay! You will not be disappointed! read more

What a wonderful weekend we experienced at the Inn. Everything about it was 5 star starting with driving into the grounds which was like stepping into a secluded oasis, to Debi who greeted us, to roaming around each room on the first floor filled with memorabilia and meticulously decorated, to our room done with such detail, to the chef prepared breakfast. We had dinner in the gazebo one night by the fish pond and Debi was kind enough to set us up. Great location to town and restaurants. We look forward to returning. read more

We stayed at the Grey Owl in for the first time earlier this month. We stayed in the tree top suite and could not have been happier. Debi, the Innkeeper was attentive, pleasant and helpful to guests who were visiting the island for the first time. Bill, the owner had my husband engaged in conversation before we had our bags out of the car. Overall our stay was fantastic. Starting with an amazing breakfast. They hired a catered to be their chef and he was very good. We chose the strawberry crepes and eggs Benedict the first day. The portions were more than adequate. There were about a dozen guests that morning. Most of them were leaving that morning. Debi took good care of all of us and never made us feel rushed. We lingered over coffee and planned our day with Debi's help. The cocktail hour was just my husband and me, so we enjoyed the whole spread for just the two of us. My husband loved the outdoor screened in porch for birdwatching over the backyard. I could go on and on. The only glitch was more on us than the Inn. We dawdled so much over breakfast that we were late getting our bags to the car and they had incoming guests behind us. That last minute rushing broke the magic spell of the rest of our stay. But, as I said that was more on us. read more

This inn is a jewel. We couldn't believe how much care and work went into this place. It's fabulous, well designed, updated, etc. The stairs do not creak, the place is solid, the shower is fantastic, the bathroom is all marble with towel heaters, the site itself is a work of art, and the innkeeper (Debi) is fabulous. The Grey Owl Inn has a great location not to far from the airport. The host Debbie was very nice and helped my wife and I with plans on where to go and what to see. The rooms were very nice and the outdoor landscaping was a pleasure to experience with a gazebo and a small pond. The owner Bill was very nice and explained much of the history of the area and house. Definitely would like to stay there again. The cheese and wine every afternoon at five was very nice with many different kinds of cheeses. The breakfast was top notch and plenty to eat. read more

BRIDES BEWARE This hotel has the WORST customer service on the Island. I was booking my guests stay at this property and luckily was warned from a former bride who stayed there, that her wedding night and party was ruined when the owner RAN A CAR through her wedding party. The owner lives next door to the Inn and decided he wanted her money but not her guests. I learned from other companies on the Island that there have been numerous complaints from guests at the establishment. DO NOT stay here or have this location be a part of your big day in any way. The owner is erratic and aggressive towards guests. When I was touring the Inn he even threatened to "kick guests out" of their rooms because it was 11:05am and they "were supposed to be gone at 11am". Deb - the innkeeper apologized and ran off to save those guests from his aggression. I am so lucky to have seen this behavior first hand and dodged a bullet from having my wedding party stay there. Both times I was in the Inn I was appalled at the owner and they way it was ran. He has never owned an Inn before and it shows. This Inn has a horrible reputation on the Island. Just stay away! This Inn will not be in business long. read more

Not my cup of tea! The is a sample of a bad B&B. The owner/host was very rude, unhospitable and unprofessional. I was a part of a wedding party that consisted of a bi racial couple and the majority of guests were AA/black, we were not allowed to use the front entrance and redirected to the back door at all times. The stay started out on a sour note when I was charged 1/3 of my total upfront and the remaining balance the day that I checked in, no not at checkout but upfront before the room was even viewed. Speaking of rooms being viewed the only person shown their room was the groom (Caucasian). Her customer service skills are not up to par and she could benefit from a racial basis training course. Breakfast was to be included in my upfront cost but was instead billed 1-2 weeks after I had left the inn, when asked about expenses and a breakdown of fees paid I was told to dispute the charges but was not given nor offered any receipts/bills. I do not nor will never recommend this inn due to the blatant disrespect and racism that was shown to paying customers. The wedding party along with guest were treated poorly and rushed off the grounds after the wedding and told to hurry and go the reception, the bride was not allowed to take pictures that she wanted because the host was hurriedly moving us along. She was rarely available for us and did not supply the needs of the guest while we were there and at check out we left a note along with the key(s) on the grounds. I am still waiting on my bills/receipts and correspondence to my calls. read more
