Our meal was very disappointing. It sounded great on the menu, but the food itself was mediocre. We started with Swedish meatballs. What we got were small meatballs smothered in a dark brown gravy. They weren't tasty. We also ordered the crab egg roll, which was fine. For our entree, my husband & I both ordered pork chops. The sauce in top was so spicy we could barely taste the pork chops. This was our first in the area headed to Gettysburg. We had reservation for 12:30 but ended up an hour early. They were able to accommodate us. This is an awesome place for the era, well done. We attended on Sunday during the brunch time. Very friendly staff. Our first desire was a Bloody Mary. The other option was a Crabby Mary which had crab meat in it... so we gave it a try...nice touch. What we had wasn't on the current web menu but was a special, Biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs, breakfast potato and we ordered a side of bacon. All were out of this world good. We had high hopes... online this place looks great..farm to table..the food was a joke this place should be ashamed of themselves for serving this food. It's embarrassing. They have a great PR person and the menu writer is also amazing with words. To bad the words dont match the food. They need a real chief. The ambiance is ok staff is super nice. But the food. OMG... The worst meal. It started out great. Crab egg roll was fantastic. The peach soup was good, but not great. The main course however was laughable...it was chicken finger day at summer camp. To be fair the group at the next table had crab cakes and the black bean special. They were happy and liked their food. We may have just ordered the 2 kids meals and didn't know it. Beautiful historic inn with a gracious host. This inn is beautiful with so much history and character. The host was very accommodating and shared some of the fascinating history. The balcony door mysteriously opened as we were looking around. Old doors or hospitable (g)hostess? Either way we had a wonderful stay. Stopped by for the first time around Valentine's Day last year & really enjoyed it, so we came back for another Valentine's weekend dinner. We had a reservation & were seated immediately upon arrival with excellent service throughout. We started out with drinks and Local Cheese Board as an app - awesome selection of tasty tidbits! Next up - Seared Duck Breasts for the GF & Grilled Chicken Breasts Marsala for me...2 winners! Proteins were superbly cooked - tender, juicy perfection! My Marsala sauce was awesome! Pacing of the service was perfect - server showed up often, but we were not rushed...just a great dining experience. I believe this is the beginning of another dining tradition! Randomly stumbled on this fantastic gem of a restaurant AFTER looking for a new spot in or relatively close to Gettysburg while on a brief vacation with family. The service was great, the owner is super nice, and the food was incredible: We had to start: Artichoke dip Corn bisque Sourdough bread butter For the meal I had the Ribeye steak (Blue cheese, roasted local garlic, Demi-glace). I honestly stay away from red meat but on rare or special occasions, but this steak reminded me of what I'm missing out on. It is a must try! I honestly have nothing negative at all to say but they were out of the Scallops (we did have a later dinner though!) - Will have to try that if I'm ever back in PA. read more

We took friends visiting from Europe to the Mansion House as it is the only somewhat upscale dining in our area. Sadly the overall experience was not what it should have been for the pricing. The service provided by Liz was quite good. Friendly, attentive, and caring. The ambiance is very nice and what you would expect for an historical building which makes it a nice place. The issues were with the food and drinks. A smoked old fashioned served with ice cubes rather than an ice ball and barely a hint of smoke. The reasoning behind no ice balls was said to be no room in the freezer. The glass was barely half filled and up charged for a decent liquor. That up charge is to be expected but skimpy in the pour. Two entrees were Delmonico steaks, one a strip steak, and one a bone in pork chop. The issue began in that you simply could not cut the steaks. The steak knives were duller than a butter knife. We were all brought serrated knives which were of little assistance. One steak was ordered rare and one other medium rare. Those two were basically served tartare. With a bit of struggle the guest could get a bit cutoff to taste. Taste was ok but if you are not into truly rare steaks you would be disappointed. The struggle was too much for my wife so she gave up. Liz noted and offered to get another entree but by then the experience was not happening. She did appropriately remove that entree from the bill while the other entree was removed only partially eaten as you simply could not cut it. Cutting the pork chop was a bit better but not what it should have been. The mixed veggies were overly seasoned and right at the point of being over cooked. Deserts were quite good and good portions. No need for a knife for a cobbler. lol. Once the bill was paid we chatted a bit and then noted with the exception of the dining room we were in, the lights were turned and staff not to be seen. We left and laughed that perhaps we should have turned the lights off in our room and locked the door on the way out. Overall my wife and I were embarrassed given we had talked up the restaurant to our guests. For the price with tip of well over $400.00 I suspect, even though we are local, we will not be back. So were both sets of knives dull or was the steak that tough ???!! read more

On the plus side the ambiance was very good. The setting felt like an old tavern stopover for travelers. The food was fair to good depending on the dish. Service was excellent and kind. FIVE STAR DINNER. (Ten stars if that were an available option). We went for dinner on a foggy night unsure if the restaurant would even be open mid-week. Welcomed by Cindy Keeney who made us feel as if we were the only guests. She shared our passion for history whether in this part of PA or elsewhere, including a common link to Ann Arbor MI. The creativity, flavor and presentation of each item of food was nothing short of amazing. We chose the fixed price Black History Month special. Corn fritters and dipping sauces best I've ever had. Addictive. Pork chop and beef entrees were exceptional as were the side dishes. The Chef's version of sweet potato pie was even more delicious than award-winning versions I have had in the past. My husband and I just stayed the weekend here while we were in town to ski at Liberty Mountain (like 8 mins down the road). We stayed in the Harriet Tubman room which was lovely and spacious, the whole Inn was so charming, decorated beautifully and very clean. The breakfast each day was delicious and the coffee was hot. We also ate dinner there one night and not only was the food excellent with some unique options on the menu, but our waitress was so sweet and attentive. George texted me prior to ensure a convenient arrival and we met and chatted with him several times over the weekend. Overall we would definitely recommend staying here, it's so cozy that we'd love to be back if we're in the area! Thanks George and team. read more

This was probably the worst meal of our lives. The salad was so small two pieces of lettuce accompanied by little candy pecans and some chopped up dried apricots. Entrées were edible the fish cakes or the crabcakes tasted like they were bad and I was afraid to even eat them, they smelled, the carrots have been cooked before and just on every plate I noticed every meal every entrée was served with carrots altogether I thought this was one of the most awful meals of our lives read more

AMAZING does not even begin to describe the food and service here. Started with their fresh handcrafted, organic, wood fire, sourdough bread...so yummy...and their local corn chowder (even though it's hot outside). For the main course, my husband ordered the crab cakes, which he said were the moist crab cakes he has ever ordered. I got the pecan crusted chicken in maple cream which was literally like eating dessert! Both came with green beans and chive & onion mash potatoes. We visited for brunch and were not at all impressed with the food. The breakfast tacos we ordered were served with cold, congealed eggs and a tiny bit of pico de gallo - I could have made better in 5 minutes at home. The desserts were similarly terrible; the apple "cobbler" was just unpeeled (!) baked apples - with no cobbler topping to be seen. My husband, who is entirely un-picky and leaves no sweet behind, didn't finish it (a first with any dessert he's been served during the 12 years of our marriage). The crème brûlée my sister ordered was similarly left unfinished. These are dishes you almost have to go out of your way to make unpalatable, and I was surprised and disappointed given the reviews. This is in Fairfield and local farms also work with grocery stores to sustain their business. I am also a chef and what they do there is highly commendable. The ambiance, attention, food and drinks are awesome. I now reside in Pittsburgh and worked in NY(Daniels), Chicago(Alinea), Little Washington(The Inn at Little Washington) and a stage at Napa(French Laundry). I enjoyed my time there coming back from Bmore. You cater to the demographics of the area. The loyal patronage on the daily basis not some randos that think they have carte blanche to disrespect a restaurant owners hard work with his family. Better not to post hate. The ambience was fine and the staff were very friendly. But the food. Yikes. My crab egg roll had shell in it so couldn't finish. My partner's crab soup also had shell. My scallops were overcooked, the texture was rubber, with zero seasoning. My partner's duck.. zero seasoning. We tried to add our own salt and pepper from the table to salvage the meal but damn. The food was a bit bland. The mashed potatoes were not really mashed (big chunks of potatoes) and the green beans were a bit soft. When we asked for bread at the table, we were told that bread was an appetizer that the restaurant would have to charge us for. I know that Covid has devastated the restaurant industry, but I believe that is why consumers are paying nearly $30.00 for a fried chicken cutlet. I have been going to restaurants since the restrictions were lifted and no restaurant that I visited has charged for bread or rolls. What's next, a napkin cleaning fee? read more

What's not to love? Service was excellent both times I visited. Hostess was warm and welcoming. I have food allergies, and they happily made accommodations for me. They were all very attentive to my dietary needs. Plus the building itself and all of the history is such a treasure! I'm oddly obsessed with the ornate door. Our 'guys' annual trip to Gettysburg always ends with an upscale dinner on our last night. This year we ventured a couple miles away and are we glad we did! Our event ended early so we called the restaurant and they were able to accommodate us an hour ahead of our reservation. Our outdoor table was very comfortable thanks to their outdoor heaters. Mansion House is allegedly a boutique inn and elegant "Farm to Table restaurant and Tavern", but that is far from what we experienced. From the "specialty Old-fashioned" and Manhattan that were miserably dilute and served with fake grocery store maraschino cherries to the printed menus that promised local corn chowder, but delivered mediocre cream of mushroom soup. The antipasto salad was made from a pile of canned artichoke hearts, a similar pile of canned olives, cold sourdough toast, and two tiny slices of mozzarella on two mediocre tomato slices. While they claim fresh farm sources, our experience was grocery store quality. The pecan crusted chicken was made from a standard chicken cutlet and served lukewarm. The mashed potatoes and zucchini were also lukewarm and overcooked. The outdoor patio was a delightful atmosphere; however, the food was extremely subpar. read more
