I visited with family in Gettysburg and we stopped for lunch here. It was my first time but the food was delicious so I understand why they would bring other people to check them out. My uncle ordered a cup of chili to start. It was served hot which is always a bonus. Not too spicy even though it had a spice label next to it on the menu. The presentation was nice as it's served with 4 tortilla chips. My Aunt opted for the babyback ribs served with fries. My uncle's main dish was the soft shell crab tacos while I went with the brisket mac and cheese and side Caesar salad. These items, with exception of the salad, were on a separate menu, likely seasonal. The servings are large (even the side salad)! I barely put a dent in my Mac and cheese. I was a little disappointed that the brisket that was "folded" within my MAC and cheese was playing Hide-and-seek. I would prefer more protein in that dish based on the quantity of pasta. The salad was well-dressed. At most restaurants I have to add caesar dressing to the salads. I washed it down with a sweet tea while my Uncle tried the White Birch beer. My aunt thought the baby back ribs were dry, and had a bit too much sauce on it. It would have been nice to have less sauce on the ribs, with additional sauce on the side. My uncle did not think the soft shell crab tacos were all that (although novel), which is probably why he ordered. It had more batter on it, and one can barely taste the crab. He said he would not order it again. As residents they will not go back to this restaurant anytime soon, and can't really recommend it unless someone just wants to try give it a try. I'll have to try the root beer on my next visit. Our waiter was very attentive and the volume in the restaurant was reasonable enough to have table conversations. It was pouring rain while we were visiting town and we ask the locals what we could do while we wait for the rain to go away so we could visit all the historical sights. Everyone was right and the place was packed when we got there, we were lucky enough to get spot at the bar and a local even moved over so both of us could have seats. They have an extensive selection of beer/cocktails/wine/rootbeer (you have to try) so you can pair it with their great menu. We had the pierogies and were great: crispy texture outside and tasty in the middle. If you are in town stop by for a refreshing beverage and a great local vibe. read more

I wound up at Appalachian Brewing Company when I found that everyplace in the area had a wait for a table on a Monday night. At least at ABC, we could wait in their outdoor beer garden area. While it started as a fall back plan, it turned out to be great! The menu is varied and has something for everyone. I got their hot honey calzone, which was delicious. My wife was very happy with her burger. And they had mac and cheese for my three year old Mac and cheese connoisseur. It was good Mac and cheese. I had a cider outside in the beer garden and a stout inside. Both were good. They had some more adventurous options, too, though those weren't what I ordered. We were having such a good time that my wife and I decided to share a root beer float made with their own craft root beer for dessert. Yum! The food, drinks, and service are all great. The wait here was so long so I knew this place had to be good. It was a packed restaurant and great vibe all around with a little beer garden outside for those that are waiting while they wait. I got one of the items of their seasonal menu as they have 3 different menus in the summer that match up with different weekly times menus. We sat outside under the covered patio with our dog who was promptly treated to a bowl of cold water. The patio was comfortable and the interior was equally pleasant. Our server was extremely nice and food came out very quickly and at the perfect temperature. We ordered the seared ahi tuna which was seared to perfection under a sesame crust and served with wasabi mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. The tuna was nicely seasoned and a solid portion. The spicy burger was a beautiful presentation and equally as tasty-loaded with juicy beef, crispy onions and spicy peppers. Stopped in for a beer with my dad on a Thursday afternoon. We were able to sit at a high top by the bar and catch some college football. Our server was also the bartender and she was quick and very friendly. She brought out our beers within a few minutes and kindly brought me a sample of the water gap wheat. We thought both the pineapple upside down sour and the hefe had great flavor. The sour wasn't too sweet and the hefe had just the right amount of wheatiness. The water gap wheat didn't disappoint either! We ended up purchasing a 6-pack to go for under $10. We didn't try any of the food, but everything I saw going by looked and smelled delicious. My family has been coming to this location since it first opened up. Inside are huge windows, it's all wooden beams, and has a rustic feel to it. The staff are all friendly and do their best to give you great service. The beer is all fantastic, they have plenty of options for different palates. My favorites are the Jolly Scot Scottish ale, Embers Remain imperial stout, Hinterland Hefeweizen, and the On Point Pilsner. For food, you can't go wrong with the pretzel or the bacon-wrapped jalapeños! I'm also a huge fan of their campfire chili. Then I ordered dessert off the Irish menu. Ordered the Bread pudding. Did my standard check of ingredients listed. Started to eat it akd felt a burning in my throat. After several bites, realized it had undisclosed walnuts in it. I am, sadly, allergic. Luckily not severe, because if it was, I would likely not be able to write this today. Alerted the waiter. He acted like he cared, but... never talked to the manager, did not have the manager come to the table. Had to ask for more water to get the burning to slow.
