Alisha, your review is powerful because it is detailed, factual, and focuses on the customer…read moreexperience rather than emotion alone. For a public review, I would tighten it slightly so readers can easily follow the timeline and understand the issue. I contacted Paradise Funeral Home because I wanted to make my own final arrangements in advance so my children would not have the burden of planning an out-of-state funeral while grieving. My mother is buried in Washington, North Carolina, and although there are no remaining burial plots available beside her, I wanted information regarding cremation and placement of an urn at the cemetery. I was also exploring similar arrangements for my cousin, for whom I am a caregiver. On May 1, I contacted Paradise Funeral Home and was advised by the receptionist that I would need to speak with the funeral director. On May 4, Omar returned my call, and we discussed my wishes. He explained that he would need to contact the cemetery to determine whether my desired urn placement would be permitted. I also agreed to send him a link to the urns I was considering after returning from vacation. Unfortunately, I was hospitalized shortly afterward and was unable to follow up until June. However, during that time I never received any information regarding the cemetery's rules or any update on my inquiry. On June 10, I texted Omar with my travel dates (June 17-20) and emailed him the urn information. I received no response. On June 12 and June 16, I called and texted again. His voicemail was full and unable to accept messages, and I received no response. On June 17, Omar replied to a text message and explained that he was out of town because of a death in the community. I expressed my condolences and informed him that I planned to visit the funeral home on June 18. On June 18, I texted that I was leaving my location and driving approximately 1 1/2 hours to Washington. Omar responded that they were out on a service but that we could still meet. I arrived at approximately 1:26 p.m. and found the office closed with no one available, including no receptionist. After waiting and visiting my mother's gravesite, I texted again at 3:44 p.m. I did not receive a response until 5:13 p.m., when I was informed they were heading to the cemetery. By that time, I had already decided to return to where I was staying. Omar apologized for the inconvenience. My disappointment is not that emergencies arose. I understand the nature of funeral service and recognize that unexpected circumstances happen. My disappointment is the lack of communication, follow-up, and planning. I never received the information I initially requested, my email was never acknowledged, and no alternative arrangements or next steps were offered. Even a call or email from another staff member would have been appreciated. Ironically, this experience highlighted exactly what I was trying to prevent for my children. During a time of grief, families need clear communication, responsiveness, and guidance. Afterward, I contacted Randolph Funeral Home, a funeral home my family has used for many years. Although it was a Saturday and their office was closed, their answering service took a detailed message. Within 15 minutes, I received a return call from a representative who provided suggestions, contact information, and a direct point of contact regarding my urn request. We have already scheduled a follow-up conversation. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Paradise Funeral Home for pre-planning services. My experience was marked by poor communication, lack of follow-through, and missed opportunities to assist a prospective client. This version keeps the review professional, credible, and difficult to dismiss because it sticks closely to the facts and clearly explains why you chose another funeral home.
