I could not be happier with the framing done by Mantra Framing. I have zero artistic ability and let their employee know that I needed her help picking the frames and the mats. She gave me various options but also gave me her suggestions as to what would look best. Exactly the help I wanted and needed. Admitting that this may be premature as I don't have my picture back but... Needed a new framing place as my guy is no longer in business. Didn't know I needed an appointment. Guy came outside and told me that it would be at least Tuesday until I could get it. Told him that wouldn't work and he asked me if it was something easy. Said a simple black frame and he said come in and let's use the side table far away from the other customer. Took ~5 minutes. Prices were very fair. I have been using Aiden McGrath of Mantra Framing in Williston Park, Long Island as my sole framer for some time now. My wife and I have been serious collectors of art and antiques for over fifty years, and we have had experience with many framers during that time. None have held a candle to Aiden. He has framed over 30 items for us, including Medal and Professional awards, photos, prints of all types, and paintings. Everything he does is performed to the highest conservation standards, and his framing technique is superior. His moulding and matting selection is very large, his mountings are highly creative and beautiful, and he can undertake practically any digital reproduction project imaginable. He is extremely friendly, as is his entire staff. Jennifer, in particular, is a wizard at formatting and cleaning up digital scans and prints, and can troubleshoot any project as necessary. In addition, Elaine keeps everything moving smoothly in getting the final product to the customer. Those back of the shop workers who we have met, keep getting the jobs out on the promised schedule, and are very polite to customers. In short, you won't find a better framer than Mantra, period. I don't even live in the neighborhood--my parents do--but I've come here for several framing projects over the years because I've been so satisfied with their work every time. You can tell they like what they do; they're patient and helpful and nice, even when you take way too long to decide between different color mats. I've had graphic maps, vintage maps, bizarrely-shaped prints, even a page from a book framed--and in that last case, they roughed up the torn-out edge to look uniform and just generally fantastic. I've also really appreciated that they're happy to just sell you mats and glass (I recently made a frame out of reclaimed barn wood from a house my friends just bought) for basically free. All in all, it's a real pleasure to work with the guys at Framing Mantis, and I always tell people about their shop, even if they have no idea where Williston Park is. read more

The guys of Framing Mantis are simply the best of the best at what they do; what's more, their shop in Williston Park is an extremely cool spot to visit if you're just browsing for artwork for your home or office. In my case, it was in fact an office with bare white walls screaming for embellishment. It happened that over the years I'd amassed a (seriously large) collection of black-and-white photographs of some of my favorite writers, musicians and so forth. I took my inspiration from Sardi's and decided to create a sort of personalized wall of fame. I went to Framing Mantis with my idea and with photos of various sizes. (P.S., For some idea of what I'm talking about, head over to the Framing Mantis website and look under testimonials for some shots from my office.) For the next several years, I turned to Framing Mantis to create a series of framed matching 8 x 10 photographs as well as several collages of smaller photos that seemed to fit together. At every juncture and with each job, Aidan and James did super-professional work, creating finished pieces that I admire every day and, frankly, am proud to show off. These guys provide a level of customer service that's rare to find these days. Their skill and professional knowledge is unbeatable, and their care for each customer is abundantly evident. Their price for custom framing is surprisingly far more reasonable than large retail chains (i.e., Michael's), and I would imagine more reasonable even than other specialty shops of this kind. What I can tell you for sure is that these guys have true integrity; you're not going to be ripped off here or quoted a price that's less than fair. Bottom line: if you live anywhere on Long Island or in NYC, it's definitely worth the drive to Williston Park if you're looking to have an artwork framed or a display made for your collectibles.
