Absolute disaster. This was my second time playing here, and I figured I'd give it another shot after 5+ years. Somehow, it was an even worse experience. The condition of the course was terrible, especially the tee boxes. GolfNow showed wide-open tee times, but when we got there, there were six groups backed up on the first tee and we waited over 40 minutes to tee off. The pace of play was awful, with golfers constantly driving through our fairway to hit balls from other holes. We ran out of time to finish 18 because of the delays, and I had to argue just to get a partial refund. If you're a serious golfer, save your money and play one of the many better courses a little farther north. read more

I've played a lot of golf courses over the years, and I have to say I may have finally found the one that sets the bar... in the wrong direction. A friend invited me to play an after-work round at a course near his office. He picked Maple Lanes. Not knowing anything about it, I agreed without hesitation. Looking back, I wish I had spent about 30 seconds reading the online reviews before committing. We played the North Course, which my friend assured me was the best of the bunch. That statement alone should have been my first warning. When I stepped onto the first tee, I honestly thought I had wandered into the yard of an abandoned house. Dirt, weeds, and patches of what may have once been grass stretched in every direction. If there had been any healthy turf at one point, the summer sun had long since turned it into crispy brown memories. To Maple Lanes' credit, the golf cart looked brand new. So at least I had a comfortable seat while driving from one disappointment to the next. The fairways, if that's the appropriate term, were just as baked as the tee boxes. It was nearly impossible to tell where the fairway ended and the rough began. On the bright side, with everything so dry, I suspect even a 10-year-old could claim a 300-yard drive. Surprisingly, the greens were actually green and appeared to have received at least a passing acquaintance with a sprinkler. Unfortunately, putting on them felt like rolling a golf ball across shag carpet. I'm not convinced the green speed would have registered on a Stimpmeter. The cups themselves added another challenge, as many of the flagsticks leaned like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. In a stiff breeze, they doubled as weather vanes--perhaps the course's most useful feature. I now understand why it's called Maple Lanes. Maple trees line nearly every fairway. Considering the course opened almost a century ago, many of the trees appear to have been there since opening day. Unfortunately, quite a few now resemble skeletons reaching skyward. The local gophers were also out in force. In fairness, they may have been doing more course maintenance than the grounds crew. If Bill Murray's "Carl Spackler" ever needs a comeback tour, this would be the perfect place to unleash his "gopher control" techniques. One bright spot was the friendly beverage cart attendant, who offered a respectable selection of adult refreshments. Judging by the condition of the course, I'm guessing those beverages aren't just a convenience, they're part of the recommended survival kit. In the end, golf is always better than a day at the office, and spending time with friends made the round worthwhile. But if you're looking for a memorable venue to host a golf outing, Maple Lanes probably shouldn't make your short list... unless your goal is to make everyone appreciate every other golf course they've ever played. read more

Not to be confused with Maple Syrup Golf Club, which will be hard to use, considering it's covered in Maple Syrup. Cute little leafy suburban golf course in the north suburbs of Detroit - and it's actually a really lovely place to play golf or even just wander around and enjoy the beautiful views. Obviously you have to be of a certain wealth level to come here and have a membership and play golf, but you don't have to have any money at all to just appreciate the beauty of the place which I recommend doing if you're up in Sterling Heights. The semi wealthy father of my best male friend in Detroit comes here, sometimes bringing his son, and once bringing me. It was a pleasure and a privilege to come here. Did you know Trump said Golf is too accessible and should be a sign of privilege. The man is "the man" and where I come from, we don't like "the man." read more

The pace of play was mild but the cart girls were awesome! The course is terrible, old grass clippings everywhere, dead grass everywhere, very tall grass for the rough, and the greens had a lot of dead spots. read more

Really really bad place...course is terrible, literally the worse course I've ever seen. On top of that, they had a league start in the middle of our round where all of a sudden there was 13ppl infront of us. We were told by the starter that we could no longer play but when we asked for a refund we were told "we were leaving voluntarily"...after the starter told them we couldn't play, we were offered a $10 future credit. On top of that the cart didn't have a lock break and was a real old cart....cant get any worse. read more

This is a decent course for your 2-3 times a year duffers who want to go golfing and drink a beer a hole, shoot 120 and then throw their trash everywhere. Be careful on a busy day as the holes go back and forth so you might want to wear a helmet and Kevlar body armor. read more

Nice neighborhood golf club - 54 holes gives a challenging opportunity for all levels. The greens are well maintained - beautiful. Do not waste your money at this course. It is terribly run and kept up. There are no fairways, the grass between the tee box and the greens is all the same length no matter where you hit it. It took us 3+ hours to get through 9 holes. The rangers don't encourage fast play we saw multiple 6-somes in the course, one of which was in front of us. Average wait time between holes was 10-15 mins. If I could give 0 stars I would. Do not go here!! read more

This course has many holes, but for some reason i could never find the center of the cup. i know it wasn't my fault because every time i hit a putt, a massive gofer would pop out of the green and literally eat my ball. i had to take so many drop strokes simply because of a rodent that i know FOR SURE works for this insanely horrible course. The 3 courses are essentially "shooting galleries" and you have to be very cognizant of incoming stray shots. The pace of play isn't regulated well and they have a tendency to overbook so no matter what's happening, you will end up waiting to make your next shot. This is a course that is very easy and doesn't have any holes that are challenging or overtly complex. The scenery is not exciting and at times you're going to get frustrated because of stray shots, wait times, lack of drink carts and the overwhelming feeling that they overbooked. This is a course that's great for beginners or for players that are more interested in hanging out with friends as opposed to a challenging round of golf. They usually have twilight specials and weekend deals too. read more

i don't think they could squeeze another hole on this course it the had to. 54 holes packed into where about 27 should be. Fairways and greens etc. were in decent shape. The issue I had was the amount of trash on the course. There were empty bottles and cans everywhere. Plenty of guys mowing but not one of them picking up the massive amounts of garbage. If this was my home course and I invited a friend to play it, I would have been embarassed. read more

This is the worst golf course I've ever been to in Michigan. I've made the mistake of golfing here twice and it's constantly overbooked which causes long delays at each hole with people hitting at you in each tee box. Also there's no cart paths and the fairways are in terrible shape, not to mention the golf carts which are also in horrible shape. Lastly the employees, especially "Ranger Phil" are extremely rude, we were supposed to golf east and last second he moved us to west & said "that way I don't have to ever see your faces again." I'll never golf here again -- and STRONGLY encourage nobody else to. read more

Played the Red Course on a Monday morning. While the pace of play was good, it would have been better if the threesome in front of us let us play through. We caught them on the fifth hole and they kept going at their slow pace for the next 13 holes. While the tees, fairways, and rough were not in the best shape, the greens and approaches were excellent. It is obvious where they spend their money. Will come back to play the other two courses in the future. read more

Been coming here to Maple lane for over 30 years. The new owners are making improvements on the course, which is good to see. Greens are always in good shape. One of the few courses that dry up quickly. Club house has seen a new look. Everyone that I come across here go out of their way to accommodate you and are always friendly. Monday through Friday you should have no problem getting on. The weekends are a little more busy. Hope to still be coming here for the next 30 years. Worth a trip to play. read more

Well, Maple lanes is Maple lanes there is no reason to go here really in less you live near by and still this shouldn't be a first choice. They are under new ownership, so there can and should be improvements to the courses, we'll see a guess, until then, I with there raised prices I will only go there if there is improvements made to the courses, not the clubhouse but, the courses. This place can be dangerous with all the holes and courses being adjacent and touching each other. I have not had a problem, but you do here FORE! a lot here. One cool thing and new addition I saw the last time I played here was they made a little driving range on the North course which is awesome to see, I don't think the public can use it though, except though lessons, maybe outings?? I hope the new ownership turns Maple Lanes around, Maple Lanes could be a jewel in southeast Michigan if they put the time and money in the place. A generous three stars. read more

My four star rating is based partially in what I expect out of a course that is one of the cheaper courses in the area. The staff are always pleasant and the price is right. The courses are well taken care of and if you go after 5 you definitely get your money's worth. They also have a decent bar to grab something to drink. read more
