Rouge Park Golf Course - Golf Near Me - Detroit, Michigan

Terrible place. We started 20 minutes behind because of other golfers but when we got started (we are beginners and okay with letting anyone play past). We get to whole 4 and we start getting their attendants hovering over asking if there are 5 playing (My boyfriend and his friends are playing, I was a rider and the other girl in our group was a rider). I am an avid birder and I did get out of the cart on a few occasions to use my Merlin ID app and look at the birds myself but I did not play and the other girl in the group did not play. They also came to us with complaints from 4 white males who were behind us and did not ask on any occasion if they could play past us. They just called and complained. After that, 4 other attendants stopped us to complain about our speed even though there was not anyone super close to us and we had caught up to the next group. That same group of white males also hit down on us (saw us at the green and still launched golf balls at us with no warning) almost hitting one of the people in our group. After we were alerted of the complaint, we waved anyone who was behind us to go ahead and play forward while we took our time. I walked in to the store when we took our break at our 9th hole and before anything could leave my mouth, the man who was manning the little outdated store immediately started asking about why we're taking so long and saying we're taking too long and we took 3 hours for 9 holes when 1. we started late because of other golfers and 2. we were stopped on at least 5 occasions from their attendants to "talk about our speed" and ask if 5 people were playing when we had answered that on a couple of occasions by different attendants. I would also like to point out that there was an older black gentleman that pulled up to us after the complaint and acknowledged that this is racially motivated. I would like to point out that we were the ONLY all black group playing at the time and we saw no one else have an attendant come up to them to speak with them about their speed pr asking if their riders are actually playing. We will never come back and I hope that a golf course in the middle of DETROIT, one of the blackest cities in America, would not allow a bunch of racists to dictate their business. I would not recommend any people of color to visit this place and again, me and my group of friends, who have been to multiple courses over the past couple weeks and never treated this way, are never coming back to Rouge Park Golf Course. read more

Challenging course in NW Detroit. Some buddies of mine and I have been playing there every week for 30 years. While there are comments about the location, it's centrally located for our group - so it's perfect. Courteous staff, reasonable greens fees, most years the course has been in pretty good, if not great, shape. Not much of a clubhouse but you can get a snack or load up on drinks for the course. Beer carts are hit or miss, especially in the spring and fall. Many different types of holes, a couple of the most challenging ones in the city. Great golf course. Very challenging. Good public greens. Reasonable green fees. You owe yourself a round on this very entertaining track run by Golf Detroit for the City of Detroit. Nice new pavilion where you can hold an outing and bring in your own caterer. They have a license for beer and wine. read more

It doesn't have a fancy clubhouse and it's in a rough looking area - but it's a fun course. The Rouge River runs through it making for some exciting and challenging holes. Hit over the river AND up and over a hillside. Yep. Hit over the river and down the hillside. That too. Maybe see some deer or a woodchuck? Yep. Lots of mature trees, long holes, short holes, lots of variety. The price is reasonable so its makes for an enjoyable outing. They have a few snacks in the clubhouse - like chips or granola bars - and there's usually someone cooking hot dogs and sometimes hamburgers on a grill for purchase. byob for other stuff. read more

Rouge Park Golf Course - Deer on one of the holes - Golf Near Me - Detroit, Michigan

Realistically this is a 3.5 star kind of golf course but I'd round up to 4 stars. First off, the location of the course isn't great but that is kind of out of their control. The staff were very friendly throughout the club house and on the course but they did not have a true starter on either the front or back nine which caused a problem for me around the turn; there was a go ahead mentality. The course itself was in pretty good shape, with a little bit of water around the course but I've yet to find a course in Michigan that's dry and the greens were in pretty good shape. This course is a slightly above average difficulty. The only issue I had with a couple of holes were the pin placements; some of the locations were completely ridiculous and seem like there was no thought on where to put them. Overall, for the $19 I paid on BirdieBug a pretty good experience that I will visit again. read more

Lucky to get 1 star. Staff is clueless when it comes to course management. Took me 3 hours to play 9 holes, due to sending 5 groups off the front at the same time. I planned for 18 but had to stop after 9. Course is in bad shape, tee boxes are a mess, and fairways are patchy. Also, their system doesn't use GolfNow. read more

This course is trash. Went there on a Monday with a threesome and it took 3 hours to play 9. We were behind 2 foursomes who played a snails pace. The best part is, the twosome behind us were bitching at us at the turn because of "our" slow play. Quite comical considering we were playing par golf. Needless to say we counted our losses and left after 10 holes even though we payed to play 18. Would not recommend this course to anyone. Complete trash. read more

Great course. But the team members who work there make it a great experience. Highly recommend this course, lots of elevation changes. Challenging but very playable. Give it a try. They welcomed our bachelor party with open arms and treated the groom like a king. read more
