Pleasantly surprised!…read more For a Best Western this was a very nice experience. The last BW we stayed in was in Illinois and it was unexplainably humid inside with a terrible moldy smell so I didn't have high expectations, but this one was very comfortable. Our room was clean and bright, the air was cool and dry, no smell, huge TV, abundance of towels, across the street from a gas station, Target, a few restaurants so the location was convenient... My favorite thing was the complimentary breakfast! There was actually quite a large variety of food and beverage options, and I cannot rave enough about the woman working in there. She was constantly in and out clearing dishes, keeping the food stocked and covered, wiping up every little crumb, and making conversation with the visitors, and asking if there was anything we needed that wasn't already out, etc. she was so friendly and helpful! I don't know if/when I'll ever be in Fergus Falls again but if I am, I'd come back here. My only complaint is that of all the cable channels, somehow Food Network was missing? But we settled for HGTV.

We didn't try the pool but it looked wonderful & always had lots of people in it. Our only complaint is that the carpets in the hallways are a super weird design that looks like something is leaking; clearly it's the design, but it's really off-putting.

It was so fun to be part of some history and a clear labor of love on the owners' part. We got to read about how Whistle Stop came to be and it was truly very special to be a part of. The details were impeccable, from the wallpaper and sconces to the antique decor. We loved the two person jacuzzi tub, it let us relax and stay warm on a very chilly night! I especially love that breakfast was delivered and we got to eat it on the original benches in the train car. This was a truly spectacular experience. I highly recommend it! The only piece of feedback I have is that the website should make it much more clear that the train whistles can be heard at all hours of the night. We're pretty deep sleepers and only woke up once, but they are LOUD and honestly, if you're a light sleeper, this is not the place for you. That being said, I looked into reviews ahead of time and knew to prepare for this, but the owners should do this as well.

I personally loved the proximity to an active train line and could hear the whistle blowing as the trains would pass from time to time. I intend to stay in some of the other cars in the future. Our stay was completed with a wonderful breakfast.

Not perfect, but worth it -- especially if you've got a cat…read moreOkay, this isn't a luxury hotel, and it definitely has its quirks -- but let's be real, for the price, it covers a couple of things no one else around here does. First off, it's pet friendly -- and actually pet friendly, even if you're traveling with a cat. They didn't even ask for a refundable deposit, which is almost unheard of these days. So if you're road-tripping with your furry buddy, this place is a safe bet. Now, yeah, I could talk about the downsides -- and sure, there are some. Everything in the room is a little loud: the toilet lid, the bathroom fan, the door closer, even how the toilet flushes. It's all a bit clunky. The mattresses are on the soft side, which usually messes up my back -- but surprisingly, I slept just fine. But honestly, I get it. Fixing those things would cost them a lot, and at this price point, they're making practical choices. The staff was genuinely great -- super helpful and even switched our room when we realized we were next to the laundry room (don't worry, it's not loud at night -- they don't run it then). There's free parking, morning coffee, and -- no joke -- some of the best apples I've ever had in a hotel. Don't be scared off by this place. It's not fancy, but it's good. Solid choice, especially if you're traveling with pets.

Although the people who work here are very nice, the facility is terrible. My room has no microwave…read moreor fridge. It has no chairs. There's Wi-Fi but it's not connected to the internet. Although the room is clean, it smells like someone dumped a pound of scented carpet deodorant on the floor. It's sickeningly sweet. I am on the ground floor and have only gauze curtains, with no way of having anything more light blocking (that means anyone outside could easily look in). The lack of microwave and fridge did get me a price break, but this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I'm setting an early alarm so I can get the fuck out of here.
