Took our boy for his annual wellness exam and vet barely touched him--but was interested in cleaning his teeth (great money-maker and our dog had his teeth cleaned 2 years ago). Had a terrible experience with Maple Tree Vet this morning. One week ago I called to make an appointment for my 2 dogs to renew their rabies vaccines. My 70lb pit bull already is an "established patient" that has to be HEAVILY medicated to go there. I don't like it and I don't think it is necessary, but they have been good with him, therefore I wanted to come in with my 40lb mountain cur. She would be new. I called to make the appointment, they needed a deposit for her, so I asked for the total of the bill and went the next day and paid, cash. I specifically asked 3 times on the phone what the total of the bill was, so I could pay the whole bill. I DID NOT want to search through my purse or stop at the busy front desk on my way out the day of my appointment. I specifically asked 3 times when I paid, in person, the total of the bill and if I would owe anything on my appointment day. I was told 6 times...3 on the phone and 3 in person that I was squared up and would not have to deal with that on that day. Well, got there this morning and guess what? I owed $70 more!! The manager on duty was nasty and rude and did not try to please this customer! It was their fault for not charging me the right amount and when the lady came to check my one dog out all she did was listen to his heart with a stethoscope. Is that worth $70.00??? I would not pay for my girl to get her heart checked, another $70.00, so she could not get her rabies shot. Also. they had to give me back some money, so here I am, with 2 large dogs at the cashier in the front office, trying to get out my purse....I am sure they have a lot of business, but I am tired of businesses just treating customers however they like and we just have to suck it up. #mapletreevet #mapletree read more

Mollie (my dog) and I love Maple. They are so sweet and kind to us each visit. Mollie goes to day camp once a week and knows the route so she starts jumping all over the van and jumps over my lap when we pull into the parking lot. I just got back from taking my terrier mix to see Paige for grooming. She did a fantastic job and he looks so sharp! I was really impressed with the whole set-up. All pets are required to have full vaccinations prior to making an appointment, which was a welcomed surprise. From when I first called, I was able to get an appointment about 4 business days out, which was reasonable for the area. The staff members I spoke to over the phone were helpful and polite. They took the time to explain procedure and answer my questions. I looked at a number of places, but they came highly recommended from the staff at the Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery. I heard that Rick is fantastic, but don't hesitate to book an appointment with Paige! She was super sweet to both me and my dog and really took the time to make it an overall pleasant experience. The first appointment was intended to run a little longer that usual to allow the dog a chance to acclimate, and that made all the difference. In the end, Paige wrapped up sooner than expected and my pup looked fantastic! read more

The techs are great, but most of the vets (Birthright and others) are very sub-par. Examples - 1) I went in person to get my dog's blood results because they never called me as they promised. I was told at the desk that i would have to leave, go home, then call back in to leave a message because Birthright does not like receiving paper call back slips from his own front desk. 2) Birthright found a future potential tooth issue with one of my dogs. He said "I want you to come over here, look at this, and acknowledge verbally that I told you about it". what? He is generally very rude, condescending, and cold. 3) Generally speaking, their vets give very cursory/quick exams. 4) They were supposed to update my dogs records with notes of things we talked about during an appt. They never did it. Poor service + more expensive than other vets in the area = go elsewhere. read more

We were on vacation when our dog needed to be seen by a vet on Friday the 27th. We got a recomendation from our neighbor who takes their cat to this facility. We were given an appointment that day. The receptionist was professional and courteous. The vet tech, Brittnany was compassionate and very knowledgeable. Dr. Tori McHarg was wonderful. She examined Guinness and prescribed medication. We appreciated her expertise and kindness. And today the 30th the receptionist called to see how our dog was. If you need a vet or are looking for a new one this is the place to go. The establishment is clean, the architecture is appealing, and the staff seems to be comprised of absolute angels. However, Dr. Birthright seemed to be pompous and completely uninterested in anything that we had to say. He didn't interact with our pet at all (I've NEVER seen a vet refuse to interact with his/her patient) and he seemed most interested in trying to sell us as many prescriptions as possible (all steroids) before we left. The one, very mild prescription that we ended up taking is working wonderfully, so I'll give him that. We also sat in a waiting room for upwards of half an hour, despite being the only clients in the building. We chose this clinic because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews, and we were sadly disappointed. read more

What a shame. Great facility lousy vet practice. As a new mover to the area I was very disappointed in the service and support I received from this place, and by the founder of the practice no less, SR. Birthright! I had to wait for my appointment to begin because he was apparently reading my dogs records, then I was placed in one of the examination rooms and asked many questions by the technician. Then I waited another 15 minutes for the vet to get in and when he did he asked the very same exact questions. When I asked him why and asked if he had reviewed my dogs records he didn't answer me. I moved on because I just want to see her get the treatment she needed so when he offered a solution they took her in the back and I said if she really got upset to stop and come tell me and we would see if she had to be sedated. While he was gone the, records were left on the counter. I read them and apparently she had not only been on two courses of anabiotic's but in fact three for the same reason I was bringing her in and he was completely unaware. So when he came back in and told me that she would not cooperate and did I want to schedule a sedation... I said no frankly we got off on the wrong foot. I said you made me wait you were unprepared, I was on time you were not, and you didn't even apologize or try to express any humility as to my situation. Clearly he did not like my challenging him and was very sterile and Mechanical and his responses. I was very clear that I intended him or his staff no disrespect but that I had recently put a dog down and I was very agitated at even having to be back in a veterinary office and needed his support and understanding. he just stared at me, and said He want to make sure that I understood my options. I just said please bring me my dog. He had the technician do that. I stood up with the dog records in my hand and I left. I went to check out and I'll be darned if he didn't charge me the $50 fee for nothing. That was spiteful and he knew darn well that I was disappointed unsatisfied and was leaving as a result. I found that to be totally unprofessional and shameful. read more

We took our dog to have a bump checked and Dr. Birthright barely looked him over and said he wouldn't worry about the bump. We asked for the bump to be aspirated but Dr. Birthright insisted the bump was too small. (It wasn't that small he just barely even examined our dog). We remained concerned so took our dog for a second opinion in Asheville. The new vet recommended aspirating it (the very thing we asked Dr. Birthright to do but he insisted he bump was too small to aspirate). The new vet had NO problem aspirating it and got TWO slides worth of a sample to have sent to the lab. Much to our horror the bump turned out to be cancerous. CANCER!!! Our dog required surgery to remove the bump and surrounding tissue (at the new vet of course!) Our beloved dog thankfully has a clean bill of health now. NO thanks to Dr. Birthright. Go elsewhere. (A side note: In addition to the above experience the quote we received for teeth cleaning were 5x what we have paid in Asheville. They also overcharge for product sold in their office.) I've been taking my cats and dog here for several years. Everyone from the front desk staff to the techs to the doctors are incredible. They've always gone above and beyond caring for my pets and explaining their medical needs to me. Dr. McHarg is who I usually see but they are all great. I drive from Asheville to see them. We have used maple tree vet services for grooming. Ask for Rick. He is very precise. He keeps good notes and can cut your dog the same each time. My Norwich Terrier "jessie," just went to overnight camp last week. Dora sent me text pictures of her being held and also playing with some other nice dogs in the play area while we were on vacation. Play area has astro turf and dogs stay cean while playing. She came home clean happy and safe. read more

Took my dog for torn toenail, picked him up and staff gave no indication anything went wrong, he cried and winned for a week and a call to the vet revealed "that was normal". Fast forward 6 months and he went to another vet in another state. This vet had his records faxed to them so they could review the meds maple leaf gave him. Faxed documents showed my dog was HEAVILY DRUGGED, (enough to make new vet say "WOW", documents stated he repeatedly banged his head on ground, bit his togue, and not ONE WORD OF THIS TREATMENT WAS EVER RELAYED TO ME...not even when I called to seek help after picking him up...just to prove, you never know how your pets get treated behind closed doors... read more

My husband and I just moved to Waynesville recently and wthin a month we needed to board our Shiba Inu for four days while we were out of state. I investigated several places around us and most got good reviews, but since Maple Tree Veterinary Hospital was close and would eventually be our vet anyway, I chose them and I am so glad I did! Not only was my experience excellent the minute I walked in the door, I felt completely confident and at ease with the staff, the cleanliness, the "play ground", the everyday hands on of my dog, and the size of the kennel...everything was just right! It was a little more pricier than I had paid in the past, but it was worth it! Teddy got out to play for an hour each day with the other dogs, his kennel was an indoor/outdoor run with a glass door. They have a TV on and will increase the volume should it thunder outside...and, I even got pictures texted to my cell phone of my boy outside playing! He must have thoroughly loved every minute of hs stay because he has been sleeping since I brought him home! It doesn't get any better than that! I left our Blue Heeler one year old female pup with MTVH for four nights. It was the first time in her life and I was of course nervous for her. I called a week in advance and was greeted warmly, treated kindly and patiently as I ran through my questions. I ended up visiting them with our dog within an hour to walk through the facility. I also thought that it'd be less stressful for the dog to have already been to the place before being dropped off for camp. I was thrilled to see all of the camp dogs frolicking in the play yard. I knew our pup would love it yet my hopes were dashed when I was asked if she was spayed. Ugh, no. Yet what follows is what earned them five stars. The owner offered playtime with her own dogs so as to provide our pup entertainment! I was texted pictures of her complete with tongue hanging out and smiling pup teeth. She was happy! Upon picking her up she ran to three different staff to get hugs goodbye...this is a top spot! I also appreciate that they happily fed her pre-portioned food that'd I'd prepared. They have the ability to refrigerate it too! Great Job! We will be back thank you! read more

I brought my Pomeranian to Maple Tree Veterinary Hospital & Dog Camp on November 20th to be groomed for the holiday. He goes to the Vet at the same location. Read wonderful reviews about the other groomer there. He was to have just a bath, nail trim and to trim the tips of his fur. It was his first visit to this groomer. We arrived on time and had a conversation with Paige about what we wanted done. I told her specifically that I did not want the clippers used on him and did not want him shaved. To please scissor cut just the longer tips off his fur. She assured me that she could use a clipper but on the highest setting that would just take off the longer tips off and she would just take off barely 1 /8 of an inch. She called and said she finished earlier so I could pick him up. As I was paying the bill, they brought him out. I was so shocked that my dog had been shaved almost down to the skin. I was so angry that all I could do is pay, and not say a word. If I didn't have relatives in the car waiting, I may have said more. My dog just turned 10 years old and this is the worst grooming experience we have ever had. A furry Pomeranian now looks like a butchered shaved sheep. Paige actually had the audacity to say he was a little matted as an excuse as why she did this. No, he was not matted. He was brushed before he arrived. You just didn't listen or you forget or you just didn't care. Maybe you were too worried about your own dogs. I don't know and I don't care. You even said, next time, I won't cut so much. Like there will be a next time! My little dog now will look horrible for the holidays, and with him being older, his hair will never grow back out. If you want your pet shaved down to the skin, Paige is the one for you. If you want something different, go somewhere else! read more
