I first learned about it through a Facebook post advertising a free, guided January Winter Hike on a Saturday morning. The forecast called for rain, so naturally I hesitated... and by the time I committed, registration was closed. Classic. Not one to go down without at least trying, I reached out and learned they cap guided hikes at 15 people, which honestly I respect. I was bummed--but then pleasantly surprised when they offered to add me to a waitlist. Cue me quietly rooting for the rain to scare a few people off (no shame). A few days later, I got the email: spots opened up and I was in. Victory. Also, bonus points for genuinely great customer service. I arrived about 20 minutes early for the 10am hike because that's who I am, and spent some time wandering around. Parking was plentiful and easy in their paved lot. The location itself is beautiful--peaceful and tucked away, yet not "did I miss a turn and end up on someone's private driveway?" remote. The wrap-around porch on the gift shop/gallery and the huge outdoor amphitheater were unexpected and delightful. I'm already plotting a return with a lawn chair once winter loosens its icy grip. Right at 10am, our guide Emily gathered the group and laid out the plan: get in about a mile before the rain arrived. We stopped at the visitor kiosk to review trail info and then headed out to explore. We walked portions of the Fisherman's Trail, Rail Trail, and Hemlock Trail, all of which were lovely--even under gray, overcast skies that screamed "January in PA." The property is beautifully maintained, and it's very clear the Ned Smith Center puts a lot of care into creating a welcoming space. This was actually my first-ever guided hike, and I loved it. Emily was fantastic, and the damp, wintry weather gave the hike a calm, peaceful vibe--very "quiet reflection," very "main character walking through a nature montage." We ended up hiking closer to 2 miles, and somehow the rain held off until just after we finished. Nature said, "I got you today." All in all, my first visit to the Ned Smith Center was a total win. I'll absolutely be back to explore more trails and catch a performance once Central PA remembers how seasons other than winter work. If you enjoy nature, art, well-run programs, and discovering places you can't believe you've been missing, this one's worth checking out!

This was my first…read morevisit but I thoroughly enjoyed the amazing art, the delightful gift shop, the incredible indoor beehive, and the access to miles of lovely trails. Tip: we were harassed by comical numbers of tiny flying insects -- they were going in our ears and up our noses and we needed wipers on our spectacles -- despite drenching ourselves in bug spray. Enjoy the trails in cooler months or bring bug netting for your head!

I run here weekly and just love how nice the paths are kept. Highly recommend coming here for either a leisure walk or a nice little run. Spring Meadows Park in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania was the venue for a 12 hour ultra marathon…read morerunning event that I took part in 2023 May. It was that moment when upon a rash of excitement that you wanted to visit central Pennsylvania and do a race. And so, I arrived here on a Saturday morning around 7am via Uber with a friend of mine. The park itself had a walking trail that looped around the park and served as the course for the 12 hour ultra marathon running event. To be honest, I felt like the park was quite beautiful and mesmerizing. It was a very large open space that you could do prophetically anything and everything you wanted to At a moments notice, legally, of course. My time here at Spring meadows park in boiling Springs, Pennsylvania was about 13 hours in total. It was nice to get to know the park itself and doing multiple loops helps facilitate with that. The part boasts a large enough parking lot for about 20 or 25 vehicles and also has a small baseball field next to the parking lot. I'm sure the Spring Meadows Park is well maintained by the county that's local to this area. My favorite part about this part is the fact that there was an American flag that was flying that day and it helps keep my mood up-beat while I was doing my miles around the park. For the most part though, it was enjoyable for me to come here. I saw a few random people take their dogs out while I was here in May 2023. It was a nice place to be in Central Pennsylvania. The overall experience here at Spring Meadows Park in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania was quite lovely and scenic. I only know of the gravel track that loops around the main area of the park, bit I'm willing to bet that the park itself extends beyond that and into some wilderness area immediately south, west, and maybe east of the park itself bordering some trees and bushes. I loved the outdoors and having this opportunity to enjoy the park for what it's designed to be and do for the local community of Boiling Springs and possibly the city of Carlisle is immeasurably awesome and great. The main part of the park is basically a park. There is restroom facilities there, although thankfully I didn't have to use it while I was there. The entire loop around the park was just under 1.5 miles in length. There was that nice downhill section in the morning was cool and awesome, shielded by the trees, but as the day wore on, after 11am, that shade evaporated and you'd have a downhill stretch with the sun beating down on you. It was tolerable but totally annoying. There are limited amount of things you can and can't do here, that are legal in nature. If you are in the area, passing thru, and want to make a stop here to relax and enjoy, consider coming here to Spring Meadows Park and enjoy the beautiful serenity. It is a really nice area and grateful to be here on May 27, 2023. I'm sure you would be too. Spring Meadows Park in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania is located along W 1st Street in Boiling Springs. There is a large pavillion #4 with its own parking lot in the middle of the park itself. I wondered if the Uber could have made it there and I didn't have to walk back up to 1st street at the meet up point. Oh well. Like all public parks, there is no admission fee to access it, which is awesome! If you are like me, best bet would be a rental car or even just a car. I ended up here (and departed here) via Uber since my friend couldn't get a rental car with a debit card and had to improvise on the fly. It is what it is. Not sure if there is public transportation here in boiling springs or even in Carlisle / Harrisburg to get here. Might need to Google that and choose the best route to get to boiling springs. Regardless of how you get here, it's all amazing and scenic out here. Wish I took some photos but I was here for a 12 hr running event. If you're in the area, come on by. We were quickly humbled--but also completely engaged. The experience highlighted how we collaborate, how resilient we are under pressure, and how our collective stubbornness sometimes delays asking for hints (lesson learned!). The puzzles were challenging and fun, the laughs were plentiful, and the sense of accomplishment was real--especially since we escaped just in the nick of time. This was a fantastic team experience that delivered way more than just entertainment. Highly recommend.

I needed Pennsylvania again for my 2nd time around the 50 states and this one popped out at me. It was very easy for me due to logistics and it being on Memorial Day weekend 2023. I found this race on runningintheusa website. Well, that said, I came prepared and ended up catching an uber to the race venue that Saturday morning with a friend of mine. The task was to do as much miles that you can within a 12 hour period. The course loop was about just shy of 1.4 miles around the Spring Meadows Park in lovely Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania. And so, What the Duck 12 hr ultra is a small but great event that started before Covid ruined the world but they're back! There was one main aid station at pavillion 4 where the packet pick up on race day was held from 6am to 7am and a lot of the aid was staged throughout the day's event. My friend and I opted to place our gear near the course, so we didn't have to venture far off course to get stuff if we needed. I didn't know that there was a local road that ran into the middle of the park and a small parking that helped support pavillion 4. It was a nice setting for a race that ended up being perfect weather conditions that day. No rain, but yet, it got warm in the middle to late in the day when the sun was on us relentlessly. The overall experience here at the What the Duck 12 hr ultra running event was good and encouraging, while participants and volunteers were inspirational and awesome throughout the event. The course was a box loop, circumnavigating the Spring Meadows Park here in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania, which was about 45 min away from Harrisburg, PA. The course was nice and maintained by the local park authority, which was nice. It was great to see nice outdoor space and just everything opening back up like it was in 2019 where everyone seemed to not care about face masks and such things dealing with Covid-19. There was one timing station on the course, which we passed as each loop was completed. There was also a laptop on a table next to the timing station, which gave instantaneous results / feedback for us participants on how much laps we completed and how many more we can go before the 12 hours had expired. What the Duck 12 hr ultra running event is a low key event that gives you the satisfaction of doing long distance endurance while keeping it in a small local community park with minimum cost. Quite the event they have here and you may want to consider coming to this one, if you wanted to rock whatever distance you want to or try for a longer distance to test your limitations, physical, mental, or both, and or other. What the Duck 12 hour ultra marathon running event is staged at the Spring Meadows Park in Boiling Springs, PA. Registration for this annual event is usually online and prices are fairly good for a 12 hour event. Registration comes with a race bib with chip timing and a race t-shirt. However with this race, as mentioned before, the only race finisher medallion is for individuals or teams who finish cumulatively 35 miles. For those who don't, get nothing but the credit of miles logged in electronically. My main intention was the credit of the miles. I knew going in I just wanted the marathon or 50km distance. The medallion was secondary, although it would have been nice to carry home something extra to remember the race by. For the most part though, I ran and got the marathon distance here in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania in 2023. It is my 30th state marathon/ultra, 2nd round in a quest to do it again. Many people car pool here, but my friend ultimately decided to take Uber to and from the race venue. There's plenty of parking at the Spring Meadows park. Just arrive early enough to secure your parking. There's also places along the course to set up tents and for family and friends to cheer you on. They do provide ample aid for you as the miles wears on, but at the end of the day, the accomplishment of running a distance you can be proud of is immeasurable and simply sweet. If you are a 50 state marathoner or just someone who wants to dabble in long distances, consider coming to What the Duck 12 hr ultra event in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania. While it is loops around a small park, it's a different vibe that doing a big city race like in Philadelphia or in Pittsburgh. Just different and laid back. No time pressures for a specific distance but you'd need to finish within 12 hours time, which provides a very generous amount for a marathon or 50km distance finish. It was nice to see familiar faces along the course and meet new friends that day. Definitely recommended if you are in the area or want to pick up Pennsylvania for your bag of States. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+

She loves all the access you have to the drivers and cars. As for the facility l, it's a top notch dirt track in Pennsylvania. You have many food and drink options for purchase (alcohol is not for sale) or you can bring your own. The infield is huge with two entrances. One is a bridge on the back stretch the other is a tunnel in the front. Parking is abundant and getting out was a breeze. Ear Pro is highly recommended if you attend. The seating is just bench seating. So I recommend bringing a cushion if your not used to that. We did go to the concession and get a couple burgers and hotdogs which were basic but good. They have plenty of other food options also. My wife picked a driver based off his hauler decals and wanted to get a tee shirt. When she found one she liked I asked her "don't you think it would be cool if he signed it?" She said yes and I told her "well he's right there". Brock Zearfoss was so polite and talked to my wife and I like he knew us forever. He signed her shirt and when she told her it was her first dirt race he told her "you'll love it and you'll definitely be back". She did in fact love it and can't wait to go again.
