I haven't played a course new to me in quite some time, and while this is not in the general…read moredirection I go for golf (friends live in the other direction) a buddy of mine did get a couple of Group Golfer coupons to push me over here. First the good: The greens were in very good condition. Rolled at a decent consistent pace, and were smooth. Not much more you can ask! Just a head's up, the greens at Beacon Hill is smaller than average, and if you short side yourself, it's a tough up and down. Condition wise the course was in good shape (except for the cart paths, more on that later) Staff was friendly: Guy inside gave me a key to our cart before my buddy got there, and we had a good chat with the starter before our tee time. It was cheap with the Group Golfer coupon, only $31, vs the regular $51 which is currently showing on their website for mid-summer rate. The Bad: I knew ahead of time it was going to be a slow round. When they can't keep their tee times, and are already missing them before noon, that means they have tee times packed too closely together. Sure enough, checking their website, and they have 8 minute tee times. We teed off about 10 minutes late from the expected time, and total play time was 4:54. Man that's a long day. Course managers are so short sighted. 5 hour rounds drive people away. The short term increase in revenue is lost over repeat business, not to mention if we had finished 30-40 minutes earlier we would have hit the bar for some dinner and drinks after the round, but instead we both had to get home. The layout is, let's say, interesting. Two main issues with the layout Beacon Hill: One is that course is totally overgrown with trees. Someone needs to come here with a chainsaw and trim or cut down trees on nearly every single hole (and get rid of that ridiculous tree in the middle of the short par 3). Second, far too many blind shots. Many times we'd have to drive up to see where we were going (and to make sure the group in front was out of the way). Even with GPS it wasn't clear. Blind shots stink. They slow you down when figuring out where you're going, and they slow you down when trying to find your ball. A couple of approach shots are kinda silly (eg #16, impossible to stop the ball on the green, for instance). Third issue, tee markers. My buddy and I are experienced golfers, and absolutely hate it when they fudge their numbers and don't put the tee markers where the card says they should go. We pick specific tees for a reason. We played the "blue" tees, but they were moved up to the white tees on probably 13 or 14 of the holes (and whites were moved to golds). That also screws up the course rating/slope because they are rated for a specific set of tees. Some of us care about our handicap and having accurate info posted. If you want to move them up, fine, but change the cards to reflect accurate information so players can make informed decisions. Fourth issue: Cart paths. I don't know the history of this course, or the future of it. For all I know, they might be bulldozing this for more housing next year. But man, the cart paths are absolutely brutal. Shake your fillings right out. The more good: I asked the starter if they had a 2-some they could pair us with. He said no, but on the 2nd hole (par 3, lol), a couple of guys came up and were part of a 5-some which they broke into a 2 and 3, and we asked them if they'd like to join us, and they did. Really enjoyable couple of old dudes (in their early and late 70s) who could really play! That really made the long day enjoyable in the end. Conclusion: As you can see, the bad outweighs the good by a large margin. Oh yeah, they don't have a driving range to warm up, either. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't come back without a cheap group golfer, and even then, there are soooo many options within an hour of my house that I don't think I would come back here again anyway. Trim the trees, fix the paths, and space out your tee times by 1.5 minutes, and some of the layout issues can be forgiven.

We got soooooo many compliments on it! Our friends and family said it was the best wedding food they've ever had. Not a single person complained. The entire staff was so friendly and attentive to our guests. We received so many compliments on the ceremony site as well as the banquet hall. I played a quick solo 9 here today (weekday afternoon) and enjoyed the course…read more Vibe: Definitely a great course for kids and those just learning the game--I noticed a number of parents/grandparents out there giving some lessons (it slows play a little but I didn't find the course too slow). It's a fun place if you have 90+ mins and want to work on your short irons and putting. People seemed like they were learning or having fun--not a place you feel pressure to be good at. Layout: Lots of water, but pretty easy to clear (#9 was a longer carry from the blue tees); sand traps weren't too threatening (some were out of play). The condos are close on 2-3 holes, so you have to be mindful to not end up in a backyards but I generally didn't see that as an issue. While a cart isn't normally necessary on such a short course, a few holes are far apart, which would make for a long walk if you didn't have one. I brought all of my irons but only used about 5 clubs (7i, 8i, 9i, PW, LW) + putter from the blue tees. If I played the whites, it would be 4 clubs + putter. Tee boxes: About the same quality as the general fairways. Good enough shape overall. The yardage figures did seem off a little (a few holes played ~10-15 yds shorter than indicated--I just played down a club). Greens: A few patchy areas but generally pretty decent. Medium speed; a few breaks and undulations to add a little challenge. Other notes: very nice and accommodating staff; restaurant right at the clubhouse; only $10/round (+$5 for a cart). All the water meant lots of geese and goose droppings, mostly on #1 and #9. Overall, a nice little par 3 that I hope to get back to a couple times/yr since it's near my house. They seem like they take pride in it.

There are also a ton of Canadian geese throughout the course. You should use a golf cart instead of walking unless you don't mind stepping into Canadian geese poop. It is ALL over and really disgusting. The owner should invest in a nin-toxic chemical to quickly dissolve the poop. Nothing spectacular this is an average place that fits the bill.

We get to whole 4 and we start getting their attendants hovering over asking if there are 5 playing (My boyfriend and his friends are playing, I was a rider and the other girl in our group was a rider). I am an avid birder and I did get out of the cart on a few occasions to use my Merlin ID app and look at the birds myself but I did not play and the other girl in the group did not play. They also came to us with complaints from 4 white males who were behind us and did not ask on any occasion if they could play past us. They just called and complained. After that, 4 other attendants stopped us to complain about our speed even though there was not anyone super close to us and we had caught up to the next group. That same group of white males also hit down on us (saw us at the green and still launched golf balls at us with no warning) almost hitting one of the people in our group. After we were alerted of the complaint, we waved anyone who was behind us to go ahead and play forward while we took our time. I walked in to the store when we took our break at our 9th hole and before anything could leave my mouth, the man who was manning the little outdated store immediately started asking about why we're taking so long and saying we're taking too long and we took 3 hours for 9 holes when 1. we started late because of other golfers and 2. we were stopped on at least 5 occasions from their attendants to "talk about our speed" and ask if 5 people were playing when we had answered that on a couple of occasions by different attendants. I would also like to point out that there was an older black gentleman that pulled up to us after the complaint and acknowledged that this is racially motivated. I would like to point out that we were the ONLY all black group playing at the time and we saw no one else have an attendant come up to them to speak with them about their speed pr asking if their riders are actually playing. We will never come back and I hope that a golf course in the middle of DETROIT, one of the blackest cities in America, would not allow a bunch of racists to dictate their business. I would not recommend any people of color to visit this place and again, me and my group of friends, who have been to multiple courses over the past couple weeks and never treated this way, are never coming back to Rouge Park Golf Course.

I had recently lost one of my best friends and was re-reading his book Under Pressure, where on page 5 he reminisces about hopping the fence as a kid, dodging the "woodies," and learning to play golf right here--sneaking onto the second tee box of the West Course. Luckily for me the course was closed due to flooding. Alexa in the clubhouse went above and beyond. I mentioned I was hoping to pick up some logo swag and shared the reason for my visit. She immediately showed warmth and compassion, offering a private tour of the course in a cart. We visited the stretch of homes where Jim likely grew up, and she kindly took photos to help capture the moment. Back at the clubhouse, which is currently undergoing an impressive renovation including a new restaurant and event space, I met Jason, one of the owners. Hearing his passion for restoring Warren Valley to its former glory was inspiring. The course already looks fantastic, and I can't wait to return with enough time for a proper round. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and visit Warren Valley. Even if you're not golfing, just witnessing the care, resilience, and dedication of the people reviving this course is worth the trip. Places like this--and people like this--deserve our support.

Many of the tee areas are covered and heated. No excuse for not getting your practice in. Great front desk service. I have had no issues with the ball machine not working. Oh, one last thing, there's a senior discount program for range balls. And prepaid packages. This is my go to practice spot when I'm in Michigan.

We were there during matinee pricing so we only paid 9.50 each per person, not a bad deal at all. The course itself was meh, not much to speak on. The holes were all slightly similar variations of each other, and on the simpler end. But we still had a good time. It could use some "sprucing up" there was a golf club in one section of the water, and a handle railing that was completely wrapped in caution tape. As well as trash/items left behind by other guests along the way. It's a simple course, but it serves its purpose.
