One of my dogs died of an infection after boarding there, another died of a necrotic bowel because, although I brought her to see Dr. Bader x3 for vomiting & refusing to eat or drink, he insisted it was just a G.I. Dr. Jim Bader was our vet for his entire career in Holland. He was wonderful. When he left, an existing dental appointment for my newly adopted senior, deaf dog was transferred to Dr. Dan Shelley. Running 15 min late for an Appointment and the appointment scheduling sucks, they will not flex their schedule to help you out if you're running late especially since I work first shift and bringing my dog on my lunch can be difficult. It's too bad so many 5 star reviews are being hidden by Yelp's algorithm because I don't think 2.5 stars is at all representative of Mapleview. We've been very blessed by the staff at Mapleview over the years where we have close family connections. Dr. Bader himself and his daughter cried when he had to put our family dog down. It doesn't get more compassionate than that. We are so thankful for their massive generosity and learning experiences over the years. The staff truly does have a passion for helping animals. They offer an in-house pet rescue/adoption service called Headin' Home that operates out of Mapleview where they strive to find perfect fur-ever homes for cats and dogs. And I know for a fact that if you board your dog there, it'll get lots of love and kisses from a certain staff member named Mackenzie! They also provide the community with their annual Petapalooza every June which is such a fun outing for pet lovers. There's something for everyone - an incredible raffle and silent auction, tons of vendors and entertainment, pet adoption, and a pet costume contest. Plus Dr. Bader does his part as a global citizen by building relationships with Guatemalan vet clinics! read more

Under very sad circumstances my nephew Taaron's dog Zorro was just euthanized today. I had the pleasure of speaking with Miss Emily and was able to pay for part of their bill. Our whole transaction was interrupted by bad phone services and several phones calls to each other to complete the request. The whole time I was treated with the utmost respect and consideration from Miss Emily to listen to our family history that keeps repeating it's self with occurrences of death in it. I use to take my dogs here out of convenience because I live close by. They are rude every time I call on the phone and act like I'm an idiot. Then I called to schedule my new puppy an appointment for shots. The lady on the line kept telling me they can't see my puppy until it had rabies shots. I stated that's why I was calling to schedule all his shots. The stupid woman on the line just kept repeating herself saying they couldn't see him without a rabies shot. Finally I said isn't that what the vet is for and hung the phone up. I now take both of my dogs to The Animal Clinic of Holland PLLC on the south side of Holland. I called The Animal Clinic of Holland PLLC to set up my puppy's appointment with no problem. The vets and staff are so nice and you can tell they enjoy their jobs. read more

Today is the 1 year anniversary of the day Mapleview Animal Hospital saved my dog's life and I can't believe I didn't leave a review until now! I drove from Chicago because my intuition told me Petal would be in good hands here and I am so glad I did! Petal is a rescued french bulldog so I didn't have a lot of background history on her so we did a full exam including bloodwork on her prior to surgery at my vet in Chicago and everything looked great. During surgery she went into cardiac arrest (always a risk with short nosed dogs) but the team at Mapleview was prepared, acted fast and saved her life! I truly believe that the only reason she is alive is because I trusted my gut and brought her here. Everyone was so amazing during every step of the way, even coming out to my car multiple times to update me because I didn't want to come inside crying! I recently adopted another frenchie and I already know we will be coming here for his neuter! I can never thank them enough! read more

My family has been a customer of Dr. Bader's around 20 years or longer. Based on our account number we were one of the first 100 or so clients. So naturally once I was an adult I used this office for my pets care. Now this review is based on an incident in 2013 (around April/May) but the experience was so bad and traumatic that I still feel the need to share it. I awoke to my dog (Shih-Tzu) having pain in his eye. While nothing was visible to me I knew he had to be seen. I took him into Mapleview that same day and he was examined and sent home with eye drops. The next morning my dog was not able to even open his eye and was in a lot more pain. I was balling as I called Mapleview and explained what was going on and that he needed to be seen. The office staff promptly stated they had no openings and would talk to the doctor and get back to me but could not give me any time table for this to happen. I pushed saying that this is serious but they could care less and said they would get back to me. I called another vets office who I had never visited before and still crying I advised this new vets office if my situation. The office girl was immediately compassionate and said that they only had a doctor in to do surgeries but would go and ask the vet. When she got back on the phone she said bring your dog in. Here this vet didn't know who I was and I was never a client before but they could tell that both my pet and myself were in distress so they stepped up to help. They called Mapleview to get records as I headed over which I believe prompted Dr. Bader to order a prescription for my dog (without any further examination) and they called me as I was arriving at the new vet to say that I could pick the prescription up. I told them that was irresponsible as they didn't even examine my dog again and I would not be getting the prescription. Ultimately my dog was diagnosed with an ulcer (not originally diagnosed by Dr. Bader) in his eye which was made much worse following whatever eye drops that Dr. Bader have to him and was so bad that he was referred to Blue Pearl in Grand Rapids to have eye surgery by an opthamologist. I will never go back to this vet and wish my dad would stop too! read more

We were on vacation when I noticed my 13 year old Pom/Poo was having trouble urinating. A local friend recommended Dr. Bader at Mapleview Animal Hospital. I must say I was very happy with all the care and concern I received from the staff here. Over the course of a few days my furry kid was tested and diagnosed with an infection and put on medication. I am no longer a Holland resident, but Mapleview was my vet so when I needed to board my dog for a trip back to Holland, it seemed logical to use them. However, while my dog there he contracted Kennel Cough. He was asymptomatic when we picked him up and NO one at the facility told me they were having problems with this. Within 24 hours of being home he was coughing and quite miserable. When I called to inform them about his condition - their response was "yes, it is going around the town". I am appalled that no one thought this was imperative to share. I would NOT use their facility again for any reason. Epic failure on so many levels. read more

Just had the worst experience At Mapleview vet clinic. I have used them over the past years for many dentals. I have another vet that I use regularly but I can't afford the dentals at their clinic. I would have used mapleview as my regular vet but they are too far away. I made and appointment for 2 predental exams and also wanted to have Harry diagnosed for possible collapsing trachea. When I got there I was literally yelled at by the vet that I have been told a million times that they don't do just dentals. I was never told that- not at my last dental appointment and not when I made this appointment. They could have not taken the appointment, they could have cancelled the appointment- instead he chose to have me come in and yell at me. I have no problem that they don't want to do my dogs for just dentals but they way I was treated me was inexcusable. I would not have made an appointment if they had ever told they did not want my business.I'm furious read more

These veterinarians do so much to help the community! I'm absolutely amazed how much they give back with their work in saving animals that , without help, would not survive. Their service to these animals is on their time and expense. It's one of the great things to notice about a business in a community...the power of giving back, and the doctors here have given back so many times it's worth noting. Dr Bader and his team are very passionate about the animals they care for. I've had wonderful experiences with their facility and think the world of the vets and people I've had working with my dog. My Husband and I was a client to Dr Bader, for 12 years. We picked him not knowing that he is truely a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde ( in my opinion.) Over the years I noticed his mood swings while I had my dogs in to see him and you never knew if you would get a friendly Doctor or one who acted as if we were a pain in his Buttocks. His staff is unprofessional and rude. One staff member Barb, is particularly rude. The last straw for us, was when my dog Bo, had a emergency we called on a Tuesday and was told that they were too busy to see my dog and they could not fit him in as a emergency . In Fact Barb, stated we are busy seeing other dogs . They gave us appointment for the following week. My husband again called the next day because the swelling was getting worse the dog was in pain this was explained to the staff. They again said no we dont have any openings, My husband asked then well when can you fit him in for a emergency apointment thier response was not until Tuesday. My husband response to the staff was " if my dog is still alive by Tuesday ". My husband then called me and informed me of what treatment he was receiving from DR BADER office. It was at this time That I started to call other local Vets to see if anyone would see my older dog who by this time was in alot of pain. Thank God for Kingdom Animal Hospital in Holland Michigan, even thou they didnt have a opening they took the time to see my dog who was treated for a large hematoma that aspiratd large amount of red pus. He was placed on antibodic for seven days and it was recommened that the lesion be lanced and put a penrose drain in. If you love your pets like we do, take the time to do some research had I known the complaints against DR BADER, with the State of Michigan, I wouldn't of picked DR BADER. read more

I'd give this place zero stars if I could. My fiancé and I have been taking our cat to this location. But will not be continuing to do so after today. In fact we had an appointment just a few weeks ago. With the holidays coming up I remembered that our cat gets really bad motion sickness in the car and we will be traveling. I wanted to help our cat without drugging him or giving him any unnatural products. Online on every list I could find ginger is said to help cats and dogs with motion sickness. Curious I stopped by to ask the vet about it. This is where the downfall of this location is. No I did not have an appointment. But I am a customer. And they treated me like I was a nobody off the street. I politely asked for advice on giving ginger to cats at the front desk. The assistant then went over to the break room where all the staff was in clear view eating lunch. He reiterated my question and the main vet (I assume... with gray facial hair and who is pictured on this page) wiped his face in an obvious your interrupting me kind of way and blatantly said "No" and nothing else. The assistant asked "Nothing?" And the man shook his head and even though he was in clear view of me didn't even give me eye contact and again stated a stern non emotional "No". Why? I could only assume because answering it had no benefit to him. Like really???? How horrible that they cant give simple advice to a customer. How about you are no longer our vet and we take our business elsewhere. read more

We have gone to Dr. Bader twice after moving to the Holland area about a year ago. The first time, there were slight concerns, but after my second experience, I want nothing further to do with him. He shows concern for my pets but is otherwise rude and presumptuous when conveying his thoughts as to the care they need. I needed to have my kitten declawed so I took her in to Mapleview. I picked her up the next day as scheduled, gave her the medicine they gave me, and even though she seemed in a lot of pain, I went to work. Ten hours later I receive a call from Mapleview saying they gave me the wrong medicine and that I would need to come in for the correct ones. Not only did the girl seem unconcerned about this possibly fatal oversight, there was no apology and no explanation to what exactly I had been given earlier. I've lost all trust in this facility and will be checking with my good vets at Ottawa Animal Hospital about the medicine I was given and whether the surgery was performed correctly. Mapleview may very well have good intentions, but there is not enough accuracy and empathy for me to be comfortable trusting my sweet little kitten to them ever again read more

We have been clients of Mapleview Animal Hospital with every pet we have owned, so almost 20 years. Even when we moved to a different city, we still drive to Holland for them. Because of the great service we have always been given, and the fact we had a new long-haired cat, we decided to try the grooming service. When I made the appointment the person I spoke to (I was told she was the groomer) advised me she since she was booked in the morning, she would fit me in the afternoon, so to drop my cat off after 12:30 with a pick-up by 7:30. (I understand now her normal hours are until 1230). Today I go in to drop my cat off only to find that the groomer isn't in and has left for the day. Obviously she forgot our appointment. While an inconvenience, these things happen, I get it. I make mistakes too. The problem I have is with the young lady at the front desk. After telling me that I did not have an appointment, she went on to insinuate (very clearly) that I was lying about having said appointment. I feel that regardless of this young ladies thoughts as to whether the groomer had "really" made an appointment for me; it is never okay to be rude and condescending to a client. **Mapleview Animal Hospital: I am truly disappointed with my service today. Maybe you should require a little more "etiquette training" for the front desk help.** read more

Dr. Stacey was so compassionate when we had to put our dog down. She was so caring and gentle. We were able to spend as much time as we needed saying our goodbyes and they were very considerate of our emotions during that difficult time.
