I would give ZERO stars, if I could. We have been coming to this location since we moved here in 2019. We were quoted a range of $600-$700 for a teeth cleaning. Okay. Sounds reasonable, right? Wrong. They called my husband and told him it was going to be $1200. WTF. First, our dog needed to be heartworm tested before beginning. Umm...why was this not mentioned when we did the blood work a few weeks before??? Vet tells us that they cannot start unless this is done, fine. Okay, that's $85. After examining, he needs to have some teeth pulled. That's how we get to the $1200. Are you freaking kidding me?? How much to pull a tooth?? Who has that kind of money???? Not me!! My husband gets the price down to $960 and tells them to do whatever they need to do and moves on. The vet then calls back again (while my husband is working and cannot answer his phone) and leaves a VM telling him she needs approval (he already did this) and that we would be billed the wait time for anesthesia. No, I don't think so. My husband forwards me the VM and I call the office. I am told that I'm not listed on the chart and they cannot speak to me about MY dog's bill. I have brought my dog in several times, made appointments, paid for services, and have never been told I'm not listed on his chart. That's odd. I call the office manager (at a different location) and tell her the situation and how unhappy we are with this. Again, we have been coming here for several years and have not had an issue until now. The vet tech or receptionist, I'm not sure who she is, is laughing at me on the phone because of how distraught I am over the price and that they cannot discuss the bill with me. There's no HIPAA protection for dogs! If someone states that they are the dogs owner and responsible for paying, you should discuss the bill with them. She then proceeds to laugh and tell me that if my husband knew he wouldn't be able to answer the phone, then he should have told us that. I'm sorry. He didn't know that his WIFE couldn't discuss OUR dog's bill with you. Also, he already approved, so why are you calling him telling him it's going to be extra because you are waiting for the approval. All in all, do not quote $600-$700 for a teeth cleaning. The quote should have been $600-$1200. We had to save just to get the $700 for the cleaning and now being told it's going to be more than that is unacceptable. Give people realistic quotes! Especially in today's economy where we are all scrapping pennies!! Due to the lack of professionalism by the VET, VET TECH, and Office Manager, we will NOT be returning to this office! I just paid $900 for a dental and extractions and they brought my dog out looking like she got hit by a car. She had a bloody face from a bloody nose because of a canine extraction but didn't bother to wipe it up while she was still asleep, just decided to let it dry up and brought her out with no tissue. I paid $900 and they didn't even bother to think about bringing out some gauze or tissue. I called and was placed on hold when I tried to get some and just eventually left because it took too long. The receptionist apologized but kept saying but after the apology, sorry but she did get a lot of teeth extracted. How about just sorry we didn't think to bring out a tissue while your dog was dripping blood out of her nose. Not the best experience we've had at the Vet. read more

We have taken our dogs to ZVH since 2003. The first 14 years they were so helpful, compassionate, caring and would do everything possible to help our pets. The last 6 years have been the total opposite. We almost lost our newest puppy because they kept telling us he has an allergy and he did not. Thousands of dollars later at the Emergency Hospital in GR.... which could have been avoided if they would just LISTEN to us and have compassion. We are so disappointed and DO NOT RECOMMEND taking your pets to them. They are all about the bottom line and not the patients, which is super sad! Our furry friends deserve better! read more

I loved taking my dog to ZVH. The staff there are so friendly and genuine. They do a great job at taking care of your pets. ZVH charges a fair price for the great service they provide. They always send you reminder cards to schedule appointments for your pet and are very thorough during examinations. read more

I strongly do not recommend this veterinary office - here's why: My daughter took out healthy, 14-year-old dog to a follow-up visit to get his Leptospirosis vaccine booster shot, a vaccine we had never heard of. Our dog got the shot Wednesday morning. Within 14 hours our dog was throwing up every 20 minutes and peeing and pooping everywhere. Within 24 hours our dog could hardly walk, his breathing was labored and he did not eat or drink anything all day on Thursday. Within 36 hours our dog had a violent seizure, and within 48 hours our dog was dead. While we watched our dog die we started reading about the Leptospirosis vaccine booster shot and were shocked with what we read. We found many stories from pet owners who had older, small breed dogs that had died from this booster shot. The American Kennel Assoc. states that veterinarians should discuss this vaccine booster with clients to learn about the environment the dog lives in, and to determine if the benefit of this vaccine outweighs the risk. The people at Zeeland Veterinary never even talked about this vaccine. Later, after our dog was dead, they said the vaccine is part of the core vaccines that dogs should get. But, the vaccine is NOT required. More on that later. After we dropped our dog off to be cremated, we went to the vet's office to find out why our dog was dead. We spoke with Mary Reichardt DVM and Susan Myers DVM. Mary was somewhat sympathetic, but the first thing she said was that the vaccine was safe. We told her that it didn't seem that way to us. Susan Myers showed no empathy at all. She denied that the shot had anything to do with our dog's death. She had no sympathy for us or our dog. I asked both vets if they were aware that older, small-breed dogs have a higher risk of having an adverse reaction to the leptospirosis vaccine booster and they denied that was true. After sparring with Susan Myers for a little while I told her she should read up on the vaccine and learn how many people reported having their older, small-breed dogs die after getting the vaccine. She said, "Thank you". Neither women heard anything we said. They listened, somewhat, but they did not hear us. If you are taking your dog to get routine shots please read up on the Leptospirosis vaccine, especially the booster shot, before allowing any vet to inject your dog with it. I'm sure many dogs are fine after receiving this vaccine and booster, but as you will see if you research it many dogs aren't. Also, at Zeeland Veterinary, the doctors will tell you the shots they want to give your dog are the core shots needed and they make it sound like you have to have the all the vaccines including the Leptospirosis vaccine. But, after pressing both Mary and Susan, they finally admitted that the core shots are not all required. So, they injected our family pet of 14 year with a vaccine that was voluntary and we were not informed about that or given a choice. Nor were we warned about the possible side effects. We watched our healthy dog die within 48 hours of getting the booster and both Mary Reichardt and Susan Myers at Zeeland Veterinary denied that their actions had anything to do with our dog's death. They offered this denial without any evidence or any bloodwork after our dog's death. These people are 100% lacking in empathy and have ethics that I find questionable. Find another vet's office. Apparently, West Michigan Veterinary Services in Coopersville is connected somehow to Zeeland Veterinary Hospital and Susan Myers is listed on the Coopersville office website. With her working there I would avoid that vet office too. read more

I chose ZVS for both location and positive online reviews and I have not been disappointed. All of the staff members that I've interacted with have been so kind and caring! Dr. Smith does a great job of caring for my puppy, Stuart. She always reviews her recommendations with me as far as shots and medications go BEFORE she gives them to him which is great and always makes sure to answer my questions. They are also mindful of my budget and give cost estimates at the beginning of the appointment so there are no surprises.I'm so thankful that I found such a wonderful place to bring Stu! :) Highly recommend! read more

The staff are very friendly, knowledgable, and seem to genuinely enjoy the work they do. I brought my 3-year-old lab in for an annual check-up, and they took time to explain the whys behind each of his vaccines. The appointments were also very fast and on time, which shows they respect my time as well. The pricing is also very fair and they didn't take advantage of billing for a full follow-up appointment either, only the minor procedure. I vehemently do not recommend! My beautiful dog went here for a dental, they needed to do several extractions. No antibiotics were given. He died six days later from a horrible bacterial intestinal infection. read more

I have a part domestic short hair tabby who is also part maine coon. He can be a very stubborn kitty, but also very loving and affectionate. The staff at Zeeland Veterinary Hospital is very understanding of his nature, and always does their best to accommodate any quick scheduled visits, and changes. Dublin just turned 4 and is not a fan of the carrier. He has always put up a fight getting into it. After several attempts, the other day, I was practically in tears. His appointment was only a half hour from the time I called to say he wouldn't be coming in . The staff, especially Marcy, was very understanding. She later consulted with Dr. Myers, on a solution to get Dub used to the carrier. It was wonderful that much time was taken to accommodate me. I had to run a sample to the hospital, and left Dub home. They called me back later, with a solution, and it didn't take that long either. Thank you so much! :) read more
