My sister-in-law has lived at Maplewood Care Center (MCC) for more than six years. Every member of their staff is exceptional in every way. Linda has many health problems and our family would never consider having her at any other health care facility. For example: She's very susceptible to pneumonia and, at the first possible symptom, their staff immediately takes x-rays and appropriate action. In addition, every member of MCC's staff is kind and caring. Linda is always listened to with respect until the best solution for any problem is found. MCC's communication with our family is extraordinary. Their staff works closely with us to make Linda as comfortable and happy as possible. We are a large family and that enables us to devote time to the entire family since the staff at MCC takes such excellent care of Linda. On top of all that, MCC schedules a wide range of interesting and fun activities that Linda and the other residents enjoy. I've personally spent many hours in all areas of MCC and have never seen or heard of any situation even vaguely resembling that mentioned in other reviews. A bonus is that our loved one raves that the food at MCC is exceptional. Our family highly recommends Maplewood Care Center. read more

Before I point out a few negative things I would like to say there are some people at this facility that were kind, considerate and respectful! There were others that just wanted to collect a paycheck, they did not care for the people in their care unless they knew someone was watching them. I went to this site everyday for 2 months while my father was in hospice. They rarely cleaned the floor to the point I complained to management, management made excuses instead of addressing the issue. I witnessed a woman fall out of her chair and land on her face, they picked her up and put her at the table for dinner. I now know such a fall would be called a trauma silver and someone should of done a full head to toe inspection of her body, they did nothing while the woman cried while trying to eat. Many meals barely had any protein on the plate and most meals were cold. There were other issues. read more

Wow. The jury was out until tonight. I called because I received some paperwork regarding a change in my father's medicine. The nurse answering said in a snotty way, "well, I have no idea who you are and who your father is," which I quickly replied, "How can I help you then?" It's amazing to me how snotty someone can be when they are in-charge of caring for people." I'm not a rocket scientist but her response should've mirrored what a I said. #furious read more

This is an awful place, there is no real medical staff - not a health care facility. I was put in there because Medicare wouldn't cover 2-3 months of recovery time from acute pancreatitis anywhere else. Note: this is a terminal illness. I'm hoping for remission again - not from this facility. The nursing staff is uneducated, rude, and have no compassion. You will not get any if your meds (including insulin) unless you need it at "designated" times. I had a major panic attack upon arrival and was made to feel like a child and treated as tho I was totally incoherent. From then on, I was bullied and harrassed by the CNA and nursing staff - all day and night. They called me "queen" (very derogatory and juvenile). They would literally take breaks BEFORE getting my meds or any other needs. My pain meds and insulin were administered at their convenience. I wrote a legit grievance and received a letter in the mail saying I should have cleared it with doc (who's there only there 4 hours a week) and it was my fault that I couldn't get meds or hygienic care. My blood sugar was at 245 - I didn't get my shot until 1-1.5 AFTER the initial reading, and breakfast comes at 7:30... no meds until 9am. The last Friday I was there, they told me they ordered meds at 6am, then at 1pm and then at 3pm - I didn't get my meds until 7:39pm - this was somehow MY FAULT - the CNAs and nurse would literally laugh out loud in my face that I couldn't get my meds and let me know, up front, that I wasn't going to get them if I kept "bothering" them. I left this nightmare (without doc OK, cuz there is no doc - EVER). All residents are locked in from 11pm-5am. There is no WIFI or technology available for residents - a push button phone only. Residents are left with dirty underclothes, gowns and stuck outside in wheelchairs. There is always piss on the bathroom floors. They hand write charts in napkins or by memory - they only fill out charts if doc is coming. The nurse lost a needle in my roommates bed - told her it happens all the time. I was given insulin without checking my numbers (I'm NOT diabetic). My meds were changed per the "nutritionist" - no doctor or medical staff. nutritionist decided what therapy I needed and what diet I should have when tube removed - I was put on a cardiac diet, yet I have no cardiac problems. There were a constant amount of flies in our room - no air conditioning - only a large built in auxiliary fan (that was incredibly loud and dirty). The floors were constantly sticky (from my tube feeding) and filthy; no new linens ever, one towel a day that staff used for cleaning my tube, no showers available unless staff could help - never available. I was served jello with a fork that was missing a tine. I was told, to my face, that I wasn't a priority - thus I couldn't get meds or anything else until the staff got around to it... never at appropriate times. If your looking to be broken down physically, mentally and emotionally- this is the place. If you are in anyway coherent - do NOT go here - you will wish you were out cold. If you really love someone - stay far away from this prison. If you want to throw someone away without any care - sign up for this dump. They said I had to stay there for 3 weeks of PT - I'm in very good physical shape - but Medicare will pay up to 21 days. Thus, I needed therapy? They will force you to stay as long as they know they'll get paid, your care isn't considered at all. Non-profit - I think not. Archaic and abusive - absolutely. read more
