Mission accomplished! Decided to get a library card after so many years The Mar Vista Branch was closer to me and I was happily surprised to see how nice and organized it's. The lady that helped me was very informative and introduced me to some of the things I can do with the library card. I'm definitely enjoying using the app to make selections Thank you, great customer service

Small and quiet. This library has a small free parking lot with a guard out front. The librarians are nice too! Unfortunately they don't seem to have enough room compared to other libraries which causes most of their used books section to be kept hidden behind closed doors. Service is great! The ambiance is quiet.

Sometimes the patrons may be smelly, but the facilities aren't bad and the staff can be really nice! They have free workstations and wifi. Black and white printing only for 25 cents a page. Central Library downtown is the only One that has color printing. Parking can be a pain Cuz the spots are so darn narrow but you can also park on the street. I like to order books to be held at this branch and I'll get an email letting me know when it's ready to pick up. Just be sure you pick it up before the indicated date otherwise you'll be charged a fee! There are two places where you can drop off your books without going inside. One is near the parking lot entrance. The parking lot gets gated after hours so you'll then have to use the return drop off on the front side on venice blvd. pretty easy.

This library has the most helpful and kind staff! We were able to easily order books not in stock at this branch.

After reading the history and significance of this amazing library, along with the glowing reviews and pictures on Yelp, how have we not visited before? We arrived around 1pm. Parking at the library was super easy in the surprisingly clean, multi-level underground space. We were then pleasantly surprised by the AAPI event. We were given cute tote bags with information about the free festival along with fans, notebooks and pencils. There were several activities going on like Lei Making and traditional Japanese dance lessons. We came across a table where we were given a special edition K-pop CD package and information on learning the Korean language. We had a wonderful time! The library itself was simply amazing. Being our first time, our minds were on overload with so much to explore at every turn. I especially enjoyed the Getty Gallery. The architecture is quite the marvel. Even the elevators thoughtfully designed with old index cards were so cool. After walking every floor, we finally settled ourselves at a reading table on -2 where we also discovered the Octavia Lab -- wonderful place! The technology available in this space is just incredible. As others have mentioned, there are many, many homeless people throughout the library. Some sections are overwhelmed with odor that hits you like a brick and it was hard to just breathe. These areas are easy enough to avoid and as one reviewer suggested -- bring hand sanitizer! Now that we have a better understanding of how to navigate this historical library, we'll be keeping an eye on upcoming events or return to just explore more.

You will not find better preowned prices on Amazon or other major book resellers, except Goodwill maybe. There are many structures (such as a metal vault) and beautiful designs made from uniquely binded books to relax around and explore. Even when I'm not looking to buy anything, it's still worth coming just to explore. The place is unlike anything else. It's also a perfect spot for anyone creating content for a social media travel page. Upstairs you'll find an art gallery and several other shops, while downstairs has old vinyl records and CDs. If you love that classic old bookstore smell, this place has it in full. Personally it's not my favorite, but definitely worth noting for those who do. The main downsides are parking and crowds. Finding a spot by car can be a challenge, and the store draws a good number of tourists so it can get pretty packed. If you're not a fan of crowds, just keep that in mind before you go.

William A. Clark Jr. was the founder of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, a fine book collector, and philanthropist who donated this exceptional library to the University of California, Los Angeles. He was also a husband, a father, heir to a large fortune, a lover, and a fan of Oscar Wilde. His romantic partner Harrison Post was a noted transcriber of Oscar Wilde's letters; the library continues to hold significant works by this ground-breaking author. The buildings comprising the library have been beautifully preserved and expanded over the years. The library collection itself is held in temperature controlled areas, with volumes being rotated out for exhibits. Appointments are necessary to see specific volumes. The grounds themselves are open to the public during business hours; however, to see the interior of the library, you must attend a docent-guided tour. Our docent, Bailey, was truly exepctional; humorous, knoweledgable, and patient with all our questions. Please email the library to sign up for a tour. Admission is free. Parking is also free (as we were told, the *only* free parking on the UCLA campus!). Add this to your list if you're interested in Los Angeles, history, queer history, and/or Oscar Wilde. Highest recommendation.
