I would give this company a negative rating if I could. I am shocked that this company is still allowed to operate a business legally. They Have two mottos the first one is " let me call the movers and I'll call you back" and the second is "2-3 weeks". This poorly ran company is just a broker and I made the mistake of thinking they were Marathon Movers who had amazing reviews. it started when I got my original quote to move from Seattle area to San Antonio. the original quote was for around $6800.00 than I get a call from this Derrick guy on a Saturday night around 7pm wanting to do a final walkthrough. Now mind you he called me and it was 11:00 pm his time and when we facetimed him our price went up another $3400.00. He was extremely rude and and clearly let you know this was inconvenience. we were told that the movers would be there on the 24th of August. It took us making numerous calls to get someone out there as our house closed on the 26th and we needed to be out. The company these guys contracted out with showed up in a Uhaul and loaded our stuff up on the 26th at 8pm they were finally out of our house And again our price went up another 3k. we have waited and called and it took us threatening this company that we were going to call the police and reported out things stolen as we have now been waiting for almost 7 weeks and finally our furniture came yesterday in pieces. so many items have been broken and our mattress was even ran over because there are tire tracks down the whole side. the Movers that showed up were actually contracted out by the movers who packed our house out in Seattle. when I kept calling this rep I forgot her name she actually laughed at me when I asked for a discount due to us having to wait for 7 weeks. Moving day I ended up paying 2k more than what was quoted. None of the procedures were what they said because it was a totally different company. New company can't do anything about what you were quoted and marathon can't do anything about what the new company charges, which makes the customer very vulnerable. When I called to get help, I was told that it was my fault for not giving an accurate estimate and that I should have read more thoroughly before I signed anything. Absolute shit show. Brett Blair at Marathon assured me their company would handle my move with care, I'd be able to reach out to him specifically with any questions I may have between putting down the deposit and having my stuff delivered. I was told they could deliver my stuff in a week's time, which is the only reason I signed on with them, and I was 100% mislead. I've reached out to Brett a few times with zero acknowledgment, and the company they work with has had my stuff for almost 3 weeks now and no one can tell me when my things will be delivered. On top of that, Marathon outsources to other moving companies for the actual move. Which means shoddy communication between the two companies and an unclear timeline at best. Between the two, I've been told 2 different dates as to when my stuff would be delivered. Both of those dates have passed and no one ever called to update or inform me of any schedule changes. I wish I had just moved everything myself. This the hassle or false promises are just not worth the "savings". I moved from MA to SC. They took all the information about my household items, showed up with a smaller truck than requested. Loaded truck with all they could take and my friends came to my rescue with items they couldn't take. Switched trucks in NJ and needless to say, a lot of my stuff never arrived in SC. It's been 2 years and not until you need something do you realize it never made it. Quoted price of 3,900.....after all was said and done ended up charging me 11,000. Never told me that end payment was to be in cash or bankers check. I would never recommend anyone use them. They assured me over and over again that I would only pay for the space I took up on the moving truck; so if I got rid of a few things, the price would go down a bit. Come moving day, the movers charge me an ADDITIONAL 3K, refuse to acknowledge any previous payments I made for their estimates, only want cash, refuse to give me a receipt, and won't even give me back the stub of the cashiers' check that we finally settled on. This is a sham of a company. Never tells you upfront that your original estimate will 1/10 of the amount and that you pay someone 4 different times, due to changes in your load. They don't communicate appropriately with their customers or the companies they recruit for. The agent Eric (2nd charged) collected my info but failed to communicate the changes with the moving company until they got there. They're movers waited at my home for 4 hours before they were able to start moving my thingswhile this was straightened out. I was never told that I would have to pay cash or postal money order upon delivery which complicated things on the closing ends as I was moving items to 2 different locations. Eric promised that if I had any questions or concerns to call him back. I would likely get his voice-mail but he would promptly call me back. He never provided me with the written estimate by email as promised and despite numerous voice-mail that were left on his phone he has never called Mr back. Very unresponsive and disrespectful to the customer. They're licensing from USDOT should be revoked as I am not the first to report such things. Let's all file complaints with ODOT.. I spoke to them to quote a move from Colorado to California. They first called me early in the morning 7am, and i was still half asleep. They then went over my inventory - i probably have enough things to fill a 10' U-Haul. My quote was for $3.5K. Since they were the first company i spoke to, i said that i didn't want to commit just yet as i wanted to talk to other companies. Terrible customer service. They are very slow or will not return calls or emails after the non-refundable deposit is paid. They were 4 days late to the estimated day of pick up. The driver/supervisor from the truck company that Marathon used -- Moving Express and Storage -- forced us to pay an extra $700 on moving day, despite us having provided Marathon with an an accurate item list and requested pictures of items (so the estimate should have absolutely been accurate). Wanted to cancel on the day of the move, but would lose $1,900.00 deposit. Extraordinarily stressful and frustrating. The additional worker who was there to help load made the comment, "Some people argue about the cost increase. Most people just pay it," which indicates that charging more on moving day is typical for them. As a client, you are absolutely trapped in their system. The delivery took about 16 days, from CA to AL, which is not terribly unusual. The boxes were moved, I believe, from truck to warehouse to truck, and there were some things broken in the carefully packed boxes, which was unfortunate. There are large gouges in the three-piece bookcase that were NOT there before moving. We paid for 2 wardrobe boxes ($16 each), and they did the work of loading those two boxes. However, upon delivery we found the clothes were NOT hung up. They provided 2 boxes that were not wardrobe boxes with a hanging bar. Instead, it was 2 regular boxes and they had piled the clothes in the bottom, along with hangers. To make it all the worse -- all the boxes reeked of cigarette smoke (perhaps from the warehouse where the items were stored before being transported?). We had to get rid of the boxes as quickly as possible and buy a strong air purifier and smoke-eliminating spray. The client was my fragile mom, an 82 year old woman on a fixed income, who is VERY allergic to cigarette smoke. The people in her new assisted living residence were appalled, as was I. Very expensive and very disappointing experience, overall. Run from this company. read more

I would not recommend this firm under any circumstances for moving. They are not a moving company, but a third party logistics company that contracts with the cheapest carrier available. They have no control over the actual move or the company's actions. They use high pressure tactics to close the sale, and then you are on your own. We had a terrible experience with a mover out of Chicago that took almost two months to deliver, lost 4 big items, and demanded cash on delivery. Wish it could be a 0. This is a broker. The salesman gave me a quote, then changed it. I was given a 5 day window for the move and would be notified a week before. I was called at 5:06 pm on Monday to be ready fot the movers the next morning. I was told what certified checks to get then the actual moving company told me it was just an estimate and had to pay $1,000 more than quoted. Not one person told me the truth and I really felt they just didn't care. The actual mover was Century out of New Jersey. They couldn't tell me when they would deliver, then called to say it would be the next day, by the time I got to my house they had unloaded my furniture on my neighbors deck. This is one of many unreasonable and false representation companies ever experienced. They do not divulge themselves as BROKERS which that is exactly what they are. They are NOT a moving company. You do not find this out until after you "possibly receive the paperwork. They do not pre-check the licensing of the moving company they contract out. I found out by calling the Federal Transit Administration myself. The salesmen were rude and quite frankly bullying. Lack of professionalism and definitely no understanding nor compassion for the customer. They want a deposit up front which most companies do. That was not the issue. The issue was they did not inform us that they were brokers and only give 72 hours to cancel. That's hard when it's a weekend and they can not be reached. I filed a dispute, but due to the written contract, they refused to accommodate. My dispute was based on the FTA findings of non licensing of the contracted moving company that had informed me that they were not going to adhere to the requested service sought. They were going to store our property in there storage and not to our new location. The communication was terrible and full of questions. I would never recommend this so called company to an enemy! They take advantage of the elderly as well! They have a low BBB rating. After thoroughly reading what they should have done and conveyed to customers ( there is a list under the FTA), they failed poorly. I was assured if I didn't use the space my price would be adjusted. They only charged me more. Then they disappeared. No updates on where my stuff was for 2 and a half weeks. Once my stuff did show up it was with one guy and I actually had to help him move my stuff. Called and canceled 2 days later and was told they will only refund 85%. 10 days later refund had been pending and then disappeared!! Please help to take down this shitty scam company. They quote half the actual price charged on the day of move and all the information they share on calls is non-binding so information is all wrong. I ordered a full truck load but was told that it was going to be a transload on the day of move and they would charge for double the price (2.8k increased to 5.3k). When I told them I can pay the extra but won't accept the transload, their customer service literally said "too bad". We cancelled in the end, losing the full deposit as well as getting charged for the entire move by the carriers which we are now trying to a refund from. Well imagine our surprise when on our moving day, (which was the day before closing our house), a Ryder rental truck shows up? The people that we were brokered out to , S&M Moving, come in and look around, send pictures to their boss and he calls us and doubles the price of the move! ( I googled them and they do this all the time) so it's a scam!!! Of course we are closing the next day so we have no choice but to pay it. They tell us we have 4,000 cu ft of furniture and stuff and that they will have to fill the small truck and bring it to storage and then come back for the rest. S&M Moving company owner, Steve, is all apologetic and pretends he understands how upset we must be. Tells us that our storage fees will also increase from 500/month to 2,000/month but he'll give us the first month free and that usually they charge $1.00/cubic ft so 2,000 a month is half off. When we got to Wilmington we had them deliver our things to a local mover and guess what, we didn't have 4,000 cubic ft of stuff it was more like 2,500 sow were all around ripped off....stay away from Marathon Moving LLC and S&M Movers (based in Ohio) read more

If I could provide negative stars then I would. I dont even know where to start with how big of a scam this company is. They gave us an estimate for the cost of the move and as we waited for a truck to show up, the price kept rising. The customer service is lacking and once you call from your phone, you can't get another answer because, "their mailbox is full" so we had to use multiple phones in order to talk to someone. Finally someone showed up but they raised the price by over $5,000 and took over a week to move our stuff. They changed drivers multiple times and also wouldn't answer the phone. We eventually received our stuff but 90% was destroyed and all of our boxes were squished and the stuff inside also broken. We cancelled within 72 hours and they charged us (basically after a fight only refunded a portion of the money) claiming it was truck booking fees. We were hiring them in September 2021 for Jan 2022. Booking fees? They are also liars. This cancellation was actually within 24 hours and they just took the money. We filed a claim with our credit card, but it has not settled as of today, November 16.
