Arrived around 11:30 on a Thursday and was able to park in the lot out front. It was full by the time we left, which was around 2. Arriving early is a good idea because the tables and lounge chairs fill up. The good: The woman who checked us in was chipper and welcoming. Very thorough explanation (a bit tedious, though) of everything available to us. Beach access in the Keys is definitely a bonus. Not expansive stretch here, but beach is beach. Arrived in time to get 2 lounge chairs and enjoyed soaking up some sun. A dip in the heated pool was rejuvenating. Didn't order food, but the prices are very reasonable. The bad: Mold in the ice! Their ice machine has clearly been neglected. I got a margarita and 2 cups of ice for bottled water. All of it had mold present. Gross! Very foamy draft beer, which tells me the temp is probably not right. Definitely not what a draft beer should be. I've watched enough "Bar Rescue" to know these are some major issues. The drink situation was deplorable, but otherwise the surroundings were enjoyable.

This was our first trip to Ocean Reef Club and we did enjoy our six day stay very much!…read more The resort is beautiful! The grounds are well kept and there are activities from boating, to relaxing, to golf and other interests. We were here as part of a group for Scout Boats 30 year anniversary celebration and dealer meetings. The weather was not good for the customer demo day, but that is not something that could be controlled. The Scout team worked through that and I know the event was a success! We really enjoyed the events hosted by the Scout Boat team. We enjoyed the pool area, but only wished the servers did not stop service so early. We thought the restaurant schedule for the resort was a little strange. The hours were so different for so many of the restaurants, it was hard to keep up with the hours and dress and such in each. And there were times that it seemed no restaurant was open. We actually left the resort for multiple meals (more than 4 in our 6 days), as we could not get what we wanted onsite. I did shop at the Lilly Pulitzer store and enjoyed that! We also bought some other items at the general stores. Our one biggest disappointment was housekeeping. I do not know if we had a new team, but every day presented a new challenge. First day, not replacing towel essentials, next day same issue and not replacing a shower cap, next day, not replacing toilet paper. I do not think our sheets were ever changed. They come in for evening turn down service before 7:00 p.m. and most people are trying to get ready for dinner. Very inconvenient. Overall, we loved our stay and would recommend visiting ORC when you have the opportunity.

We have been coming here for many years and my family never tires of coming back. From the village shops, Wynn's grocery, the lagoon, movie theater and the sunsets, it is as much a lifestyle as it is a vacation. Our family kind of has a tradition when we visit, we cook most our own meals, although we often head into Key Largo for dinner out one night, we go out on a boat, we eat lunch in the restaurants or at the food truck, and we try to visit the movie theater at least once. On the boat we head to Billy's Point or Carys Fort, but even when we don't my kids enjoy the pool at our rental unit or at the main hotel. Pricing is not for the faint of heart and weekends and season, things can get very crowded, but it is a trip worth making.

Ocean Reef Club - French Dip - I don't recommend it. Very dry and flavorless plus, the bread was hard.

We got to watch two presentations with the keepers. Afterwards, they were doing a medical check on a particular dolphin that was having stomach upset. A nice man came along and told us "a keeper smarter than we will be along soon, but I can answer your questions for now. Oh, there's someone smarter than me now!" And he gestured to one of the summer interns. They both laughed. He told us all about each dolphin and their story. He told us about the hurricanes 10 years ago, and how the water rose far above the dolphin enclosures, offering them freedom, but none of them left. It was clear he really loved these animals. He walked away to assist the team working with the dolphin. The intern turns to us and says "that's the founder of this place. He's here every single day. He's the smartest of all of us!" She was great too. She said she's been dreaming of being a dolphin trainer since she was a kid. She was from Texas, but you could tell she was exactly where she was meant to be. I hope they hire her permanently. We loved the dolphin research center and will definitely be back someday!
