The Merrimack Valley weather makes the grape season short, but this winery and wine maker are awesome at making the very best of it, while also importing grapes for their bolder reds from Napa. On my first visit and tasting, I had to buy a case of their Snowflake White, Shade of Grey, and even their Grenache made with Napa grapes. Their tasting room and cheese tray is small but very cool and trendy. The service is on par and I will add better than those in California, with everyone knowing their wines impeccably and knowledgeably without using overly fluffy words. Parking can get crowded but is workable even in the NE early snow and ice. Will be back for another case soon!

We were able to sit on the patio and everyone has a great time enjoying their wine flights and charcuterie boards. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the experience at Mill River Winery was awesome and will definitely be back!

This is a place where I spend at least a couple hundred bucks a month (used to), albeit mainly on common table wine. But last week I thought I would splurge for my birthday and asked for something upscale, but reliable in that they had confidence in the quality of the supply chain. I ended up buying an $80 Petite Syrah which was near vinegar. Being a regular, I felt like I had to say something, not to mention having lived outside the Rhône region in France, where I experienced real Syrahs for several a years. When I told them this was not a debate about the quality of the wine, but rather that it was simply bad, I was told that all of their wines are good because they have other customers that like them. To quote: "All of their wines are on the shelf because someone likes them", therefore no bad wines, just differing palates. How convenient. I wouldn't even think of debating subtleties in N Andover, but when something is so bad that is undrinkable at $80/bottle, only an utter moron would keep quiet. BTW, this experience was all after providing the respect of temperature acclimation and decanting. So long story short, they have decent prices for table wines, but it you are looking for something upscale, don't waste your money. And whatever you do, don't be bamboozled by their pseudo sommeliers.

I've learned a lot about wines just by attending these tastings and I have found some new favorites along the way. I always buy wines as a result...Speaking of which, their prices and selection cannot be beat!

Think of this not as a winery as you would in the California style. It's a liqueur tasting that enhances the finer agriculture of Vermont. Ginger liqueur is wonderful- sweet with strong flavors and I already knew it would make wonderful mixed drinks. The chocolate liqueur was delicious as was the apple maple wine. All sweet so go with the perspective of how to enrich a wine based cocktail or a champagne cocktail. If you're a dessert wine lover it's definitely for you. We ended up buying ginger and apple maple. Kim walked us through each sip and went further in recommending a stellar restaurant in nearby Brattleboro. Kim was so friendly and kind to all five of us, even though she was in the midst of a tasting with another group. This didn't effect the attention she showed us in the slightest. We will be ordering their cranberry wine two months from due to how lovely the experience and the taste was.
