I rarely write negative reviews, but our experience with Marc Poulos Painting has been one of the most frustrating contractor experiences we've ever had. We signed our contract on May 11th to have our kitchen cabinets painted, our front door painted, and our garage doors sanded and stained. We were scheduled to begin on July 6, but no one showed up. Even worse, no one contacted us. I had to chase the company down to find out where they were and when they would start the project. When the project finally started, they sent one person to do a job that clearly required an entire crew. He was expected to remove all of the cabinet doors, remove the hardware, tape everything off, prime, sand, and prep the entire kitchen by himself. After five days of painfully slow progress, I complained. Their solution was to send two additional workers for one day and then only one additional worker the following day. The original employee became so frustrated with the lack of support that he quit the job altogether. That alone speaks volumes about how this company manages its projects. After I complained, our salesperson, Tony, came to our home with the owner, Marc Poulos. We expected accountability and a plan to fix the situation. Instead, Marc barely acknowledged the problems. He took our cabinet handles back to the shop to create templates so the hardware could be reinstalled correctly. That never happened. It was simply another promise that went nowhere. My husband later reached out to Tony for help and received no response whatsoever. Communication from our project manager, Jay, has been just as disappointing. The kitchen cabinet project is supposedly complete, but several cabinet handle holes were drilled crooked, leaving multiple doors visibly misaligned. We contacted Jay on July 28, and he said he would get back to us. He never did. We followed up again on August 3, and once again received the same empty promise that he would get back to us. As of today, we're still waiting. To make matters worse, we still have not received any communication whatsoever about the remaining work that was included in our contract--the painting of our front door and the sanding and staining of our garage doors. No schedule. No timeline. No proactive communication. At this point, it doesn't matter because we have completely lost confidence in this company and do not want Marc Poulos Painting back to finish the work. This project has been plagued by missed start dates, poor scheduling, inadequate staffing, lack of communication, broken promises, and unacceptable workmanship. For a company that promotes itself as a professional painting contractor, the execution has been anything but professional. My husband and I have been very reasonable and understanding throughout this entire project, but this is now above and beyond our reasonable expectations. The most disappointing part isn't that problems occurred--every contractor runs into challenges. It's that no one at this company seems willing to take ownership or follow through. Once they have your business, don't expect communication, accountability, or quality workmanship. We trusted Marc Poulos Painting with a significant investment in our home, and they failed us at nearly every stage of the process. We cannot recommend this company and would strongly encourage anyone considering hiring them to look elsewhere. read more

The worst company to deal with. I had Tony come out and look at my exterior for painting my home and he said will be sending out a quote within 24 hours. It's been 2-3 weeks and haven't received anything. I called and emailed them and still no response. I would look elsewhere and wouldn't consider hiring them to do any job. read more

we were looking for a painter for the interior of our house. I obtained this company's info on Facebook. we had an estimate with this company. Tony was prompt and appeared very knowledgeable. he told us it would be a few days before our estimate could be ready. it is now 3 weeks and no estimate has been received. I have called twice and spoke to Mary who gave me some lame excuses as to why our estimate isn't ready. what a waste of our time. very disappointing. read more

Tony came to give us a quote and was recommended to us by our neighbor. He came and he said we would have the quote in a day. After 3 days I called and left a message. The person "Mary" never returned my call. I emailed and she did email me back saying we were not in their system. I said please check with Tony and get back to me. They never did! Ghosted! Hired Marc Poulos for a small (2 day) interior project. They showed up and painted day one and never returned! No phone call, no text, nothing. When we reached out, they said they would figure out what happened and get back to us. Nope! Two weeks passed and no one contacted us. Even though they were the highest bid for the project, we chose them because of their good reputation in our community. Boy, did we get burned. Do yourself a favor and hire someone else. read more

Don't bother. I contacted the company for an exterior painting estimate. Marc came out promptly and we walked through the project. After that communication was null and they never responded to my phone messages. After trying to reach them several times, it was almost two weeks later that I finally received an email saying the project was out of their scope. If they don't do exterior painting then they need to update their website. What a waste of my time. Never again. read more

Based on a recommendation from a realtor, we contacted Marc to have our popcorn ceilings removed, refinished and painted, along with painting a couple of other rooms. Marc come to our home promptly to explain the job to us and gave us a thorough estimate since we were considering some different options. Marc was very professional and personable. We had the work completed while we were on vacation and I trusted Marc and his team in our home while we were gone. Although this is very messy work, they did a phenomenal job covering furniture and floors to keep everything clean. We had a couple of minor issues with one of our blinds and one of the switch plates (not even sure it was their fault since we had work being done by other contractors at the time).  Marc came out immediately to address the situation to our full satisfaction. In the future when we need more painting done, I know we will reach out to Marc. read more

I'm on a roll here with the great reviews, but it's so refreshing to finally find good people... And Marc Poulos is good people. I connected with Marc through a former designer. He was brought in because the initial person couldn't fit us in..and boy am I glad they couldn't. Marc is an outstanding person/tradesman/businessman. He's calm, cool and collected and most important, knows his stuff. I've used his services 3 times now and each time I've been more impressed. He finished a coffered ceiling project for me and helped work through issues that the designer didn't take into consideration. It turned out perfectly. Everyone who worked on my house from Marc Poulos' company was extremely friendly, professional, respectful and competent. Marc's communication with me was amazing as well. I'd text him at any hour of the day or weekend, and he responded in a timely fashion. I was never left hanging wondering what was going on with my project. I wasn't surprised by a bill with all sorts of change orders and additions. Most important, he completed the work on time, the work was top notch, and within my budget. I can't say enough about how pleased I am with Marc Poulos Painting & Decorating. Their work was impeccable, their price was right. If zero stars was an option.....I called Marc for an estimate to paint a 1200 square foot condo in Arlington Heights. I was impressed by his professional demeanor and he promised to send me a quote via email the next day. Needless to say, I have not heard from him. Apparently, either the job was too small or not in line with his "high standards". Very disappointed. read more
