Avoid Dr. Korn. Rude, condescending, and VERY rough in his handling of sensitive (and expensive!) orthodontic treatments/apparatus. Also--really weirdly, kept fishing for compliments and bragging about his life. But the most important issue: he overcharges, is careless, and tries to make it the patient's fault. Avoid Dr. Korn. He will insult you, he will make you wait, and he will mess up your mouth and blame it on you. I was his patient several years ago and he should be held accountable for all the mistakes he made, not just to me, but to every patient that had the misfortune of being "cared for" by Dr. Korn. I wrote a review once before but I'm realizing that every couple years someone must be going in to delete the unsavory reviews. There were definitely way more negative reviews about his shoddy service. He should not be practicing and should be refunding every last dime to the people he's swindled. Dude yanked my teeth and broke my bracket mid-exam then would say I'm "chewing wrong". My braces ended up going from the estimate of 4K to 9(!) after all was said and done because he kept breaking my brackets during exams and charging me for "fixing" them. Dr. Korn is never wrong and if you question him, he shushes you and says he's a professor at Tufts with a wall of plaque to justify his right to condescend patients. There is no doubt that Dr. Korn knows his stuff. The prices seemed fair for my 9 months of braces and follow up visits, and my teeth turned out great. However, one huge downfall is how busy this office is. On 99% of my visits I was seen 30-60 minutes later than my appointment time. Since the office is only open M-F, I ended up missing a lot of work. Furthermore, it was always difficult to schedule appointments into their booked schedule, and my treatments sometimes felt rushed and confused. I can't tell you how much I love these guys. My braces come off in 2 weeks, and they have been great. I feel like family whenever I walk in the door. The entire staff knows every patient by name, and they all make you feel right at home. They are very informative about every step of the process. They've even seen me as a walk-in a few times. He really is the nutty professor in the flesh, but he is also the Dr. House of orthodontics. His knowledge of orthodontics and how the bite, teeth, etc., are all inter-related to medical problems (headaches) is incredible. I have been to his office since I was 9 years old, and would never go anywhere else. He is also very honest. My mom wanted to get veneers (which her dentist had been pushing on her for years), and in 5 minutes Dr. Korn explained to her that her bite was not right for them and they would end up chipping/breaking because of this. He does tend to make dental contraptions that look quite alien, but he helped my brother with one of them in a few months instead of braces which would have been a longer, more expensive process. Dr. Korn is worth the wait. However, word of caution...Julie used to be the receptionist - and she's amazing. However, I forget who they had the last few times I was visiting, but she sucked. Was extremely rude. I seriously almost lost it with her a few times. I stopped going back for my check ups because I didn't want to deal with her. Dr Korn, if she's still there, please get rid of her. You're lovably quirky, but no one else can get away with having any other kind of attitude problem there. Save your money!! I honestly can not name a single good thing about Dr. Korn. The only thing I can say is don't solely make your decisions off these reviews. I did and I feel absolutely sucker-punched. Complement your Yelp research with a quick study of his credentials on Dr-Oogle or Health Grades and you will know to stay far far away. If only I knew then what I know now. I went to Marcel Korn for nearly 3 years and wasted over $4,000 out-of-pocket (!!) to fund his repugnant operation. It pisses me off knowing that he is still practicing and shafting hard-working people of their money. My decision to go with Dr. Korn was based on his 'awards' 'reputation' at Tufts and the consultation I had with Julie (she's a delight but I rarely saw her again after paying the deposit). My first impression of the office was so positive because of Julie and Dr. Korn's 'free consultation'. There was definitely a disparity between the welcome service I received at first consultation and after first money-down. Ugh. MAJOR CONS: This place is very expensive and the equipments are not modern. The service and outcome are not worth even a cent of what they're charging. The receptionist, Ann, was always sour and rude. Dr. Korn has severely lacking bedside manner like Joe B mentioned. His grip-strength when handling your braces is appalling. The same bracket kept breaking and he blamed it on ME for having crowns, oh and he charged me for breaking them! You would think if it keeps breaking 10+ time, then something's gotta change. His inflated ego refused to believe it could be his fault. Each break was costly so I was paying +$1,000 in breakage fee alone. After 6 months, I had had it with his shenanigans and requested to transfer out. The office was uncooperative about my desires to switch orthodontist and Dr. Korn became combative and berated my request. He's a cantankerous old man masquerading as an orthodontist. 2 miserable, miserable years here. I think after a while even some of the orthodontic assistant were feeling bad for me. I went to Dr Korn with high hopes, in part because of the reviews on this site. But after having braces for ~six months, I can say without hesitation: STAY AWAY! Dr Korn is not only rude and arrogant, but I have now learned that his diagnosis was wrong and I have just wasted my money, my time and my teeth to what has been an abysmal experience. My guess is that the reviews on this site ("he's running out of wall space for all his awards") were put up by him or his staff, as he clearly has an ego that belongs on Newbury Street, even though his skills and his demeanor will make this a miserable experience for you. I wish I had switched immediately as the experience with Dr. Korn was wholly unpleasant -- he was disrespectful and didn't listen when I tried to explain what was going on when there was a problem -- he knew it all and didn't want to hear otherwise. As much as Dr Korn has won numerous awards for his work, my overall experience has not been pleasant. His office staff is generally friendly and know you on a first name basis however Dr Korn himself is a rude, harsh man who has wasted the past 1.5 years of my life. I would come into his office once every six weeks and be forced to wait at least 20 minutes before finally being able to see him. At this point he would practically yell at me if I had broken a bracket or forgot to do something important (Bring a parent). Over these past years I have seen little to no change in my teeth despite the pain after each appointment. It has come to a point where I am scared to enter his office and have actually left his office crying on multiple occasions. My advice is to seek treatment elsewhere. read more

I visited Dr. Korn at the recommendation of my Dentist in order to resolve the problems facing my 11 year-old's teeth, upper palate and jaw. I could write volumes but will keep it brief. Given the problems facing my son, I was extremely anxious, but after our meeting I can say that I am simply amazed by every aspect of Dr. Korn's practice. From the office itself, which is beautiful, to the lovely staff, all outstanding, to Dr. Korn, who is truly someone special. He possesses a rare combination of technical skill and artistry. Dr. Korn and staff took us through what my son's issues were, explained to both my son and myself a course of action and outlined the costs, which I found very reasonable. The sense of relief that my son will be well taken care of cannot be adequately expressed here. Suffice it to say that I recommend Dr. Korn unreservedly. read more

NB This event happened several years ago, I just found this in my yelp drafts. Pluses: I was having a minor orthodontic emergency and his office got me in on very short notice, on a day they usually reserve for meetings. Also, fairly cheap. Minuses: Dr. Korn was really, really invested in explaining to me how my ortho problems were my fault. Basically, I have a permanent lower retainer that for the past 10 years keeps coming unbonded from my teeth. He interrupted me (twice!) to say, "NO! I teach all of my patients to say 'I broke my retainer.'" Um, ok. I have *never* heard that from any orthodontist before. In fact, generally after I tell orthodontists that my father had braces 3x and I have been wearing my upper removable retainer or a nightguard every night for 10 years and if I miss a few nights, my upper teeth start shifting too, they explain that there are probably genetics involved (elastic ligaments or something? heck if I remember) and my teeth just don't want to stay. But no, no, that's all nonsense according to Dr. Korn. In fact, I keep breaking my retainer (silly girl) by biting on things wrong. And also my previous orthodontist used a bad kind of wire. And too much composite. Look, I'm sick of paying hundreds of dollars every year or two to get the damn thing fixed, so I was finally like, whatever, I'm breaking it, explain this biting thing. I'll give it a shot. Since then, I have been exTREMEly careful about not biting on things in the particular way that Dr. Korn says was causing the problem. Several weeks after the visit, my retainer broke off one of the teeth. I could live with the way it was broken, so whatever, but I was skeptical. Eight months or so later, another one just broke. That is the SHORTEST amount of time this fix has ever lasted. This one broke in a way I can't live with. So now I get to find a new orthodontist and pay several hundred more dollars to have it fixed again, and I can conclude that both Dr. Korn's blame-the-patient approach and his huge flap about my previous ortho work were bunk, since his work broke almost immediately even with me following his rules. Sooooo if you love being condescended to while having ortho work of questionable quality done, go see Dr. Korn! read more

I called to make an appointment for Dr. Korn's office, but I found that the receptionist who answered the phone was unnecessarily rude and condescending. I cancelled my appointment immediately afterward: a rude receptionist really sets a poor tone for the office, and for the dentist for which she is working for. His bedside (chairside?) manner can be severely lacking, especially with kids, but there is no one better in the business. I would look elsewhere for an orthodontist. I have visited Dr. Korn's office 2 or 3 times, and though his office staff is pleasant, he and his wife (who serves as his office manager) can be unprofessional and slightly disrespectful. Customer service is definitely not their first priority. Dr. Korn's methods are also unconventional, and I'm not sure that this approach is a good thing. He made an orthodontic device that looked like nothing I had seen before, and I don't think that it has been effective. Go there and see for yourself. I went to Korn to treat what he called TMJ, overbite and overjet problems. I still have all 3. He refused to explain anything that he was doing, telling me that I wouldn't understand. When his 'treatment' was completed, I had to find someone to fix what he had done. I was told that he gave me a dual bite, this is a difficult situation to remedy. I actually have no bite; I have chipped several teeth, trying to bite. I am in constant discomfort. I am so sorry to have ever engaged his services; don't make the same mistake. read more

Dr, Korn is as good as it gets. In my daughter's case, he fixed a very poor outcome after she struggled with her first Orthodontist for almost 7 years. Dr. Korn had treated me as an adult and I kick myself for not taking my daughter to him sooner. My daughter tells me he can get grumpy and gives her a tongue lashing for not wearing her retainer, but he has a heart of gold and is super competent. He's a doctors' doctor. His office staff have been lovely to us over the years and no one can top Julie's warmth and manner. read more

My son has been emotionally hurt by going to Korn. His braces has been dragging on for 4 years to date with little progress. He blames my son for the slow progress because his teeth arent growing fast enough. My son has to endure criticism and lecturing with each visit. I was very disappointed with my visit to Dr. Korn's office. He and his wife/office manager can be extremely condescending. In addition, while I was sitting in the dentist's chair during my initial consultation, Dr. Korn repeatedly stepped away to see other patients without even saying "excuse me for a moment." It made me feel ignored and made my visit last far too long. I had already waited an hour in the waiting room! That being said, the rest of the staff is cordial and comforting. But I would seek care elsewhere if it's convenient to do so. read more
