Once they identified a problem I was having with my car they gave me a quote after they received a quote on a part they needed. I paid for it that day, but the work could not be done until the following day. I dropped my car off and returned after the work had been completed. The employee I was dealing with explained to me that he had been misquoted on the part and it was $300-400 more then what they had said it would be. As you can imagine I was a little shocked. He then explained that because it was their mistake on the quote from the previous day that they would honour the quote they gave me!!! They were aware my engine was leaking, and they could have given me the rest of the bottle instead of keeping it for themselves and charging me for it. That's in addition to the fact they charged me $7 for 4 liters of windshield washer fluid, which would be the full tank if I was completely empty. They 100% just topped it off and charged for the full thing, when this is normally a complimentary service anywhere else. Next, despite upselling me expensive oil, they used the absolute worst oil filter - FRAM. Lastly, the employee who helped me was rude upon pick-up, ignoring me and answering a personal phone call before acknowledging that I was there. He seemed unsure if I could pay for the service and held my keys beneath the counter until after my payment went through. This was a 180 to my initial interaction with him, when he was personable and courteous. I suspect he was judging the fact that my car was set up for car-camping, and assumed I was homeless. This all left a terrible taste in my mouth and I'm frustrated I got swindled. Despite their business name, they DID NOT mention anything about my brakes, which were technically in the red. Please take my experience as a word of caution before you too get scammed here. I would not trust them to diagnose or perform any services on your car.

Mr Lube gets a lot of flack…read more It is your responsibility to not just say "Yes" to everything they suggest. I went in for an oil change. I always get synthetic oil because I understand it's better on the engine long term and lasts longer than a regular oil change. I came with a $15 coupon which they honoured. They recommended I change the air filter for $35. At this point I stopped, THOUGHT, and realized that yes, the air in the car had been stale over the last few months, despite periodic inside/outside car washes. So yes, I agreed to the filter. They then recommended a transmission fluid change for $125. Again, I politely told the mechanic to give me a moment to think about it. I turned to Google and researched transmission fluid (when to do it? How much does it cost? etc.). I though about how my car, a manual transmission, and how it had been jerking a bit after gear changes in the past few months. I checked my service records to see when it had been done last - nearly 100,000 kms ago. I gave them the green light to change it. They then offered to replace my battery. They claimed to have tested it, showed me a little slip of paper to indicate that battery was critically low, and offered to change it for $275. I politely told them to give me a moment, Googled it, and decided I could wait - Vancouver doesn't have a harsh climate, so less of a risk of a battery failure in the immediate future, especially in summer. For $260 I got a synthetic oil change, new air filter, transmission fluid, all of my fluids topped up, coffee, a newspaper, and the mechanic vacuumed the inside of my car. All of this in 15 minutes. Mr. Lube is convenient and efficient. I have never had them screw up their service (e.g. poorly done oil change), so to me they are competent. Yes they pressure you to do more than just the oil change. Stand your ground, do some research, and then decide.

Would not take no for an answer. So instead charged $75 for oil flush and oil conditioner that were never added and refused to print the invoice so I would not see it. Emailed it for my discovery later. $400 oil change and regret every penny. Zero confidence the job was done properly. How a national chain can support and allow this behavior, shame on Mr Lube.

Alan goes the extra mile for every customer with a well trained crew. He is on a first name basis with many of his returning customers and always greets you with a smile. If you have other mechanical issues, he also owns the Midas shop a few kms up Kingsway that does brakes, exhaust, and other major repairs. The issue? My mechanic told me later that the tube they replaced in April was leaking, and that's what they refused to fix due to what I believe is incompetence. I called the following day for a refund and Allan told me to come in again and I said I didn't trust their work after coming in and waiting. Allan was extremely rude and dismissive after my long wait to an empty shop. If you aren't in an emergency, or a woman, AVOID this place. They add things to the bill without asking (my initial visit I was charged $100 for coolant I didn't want). Reported to BBB. Awful service. After a lack of info and waiting without answer, I towed my car. The new and trusted mechanic said the coolant leaked and needed a new hose. No one at Jiffy lube answered basic questions and in fact couldn't even find the leak! An appointment to fix the issue never happened. The owner, Richard, spent an entire hour sitting in my car Googling basic diagnostic codes on his personal cell phone. He did not know how to fix the issue, yet I was still charged [Insert amount if you want]. Falsely claiming we scheduled a follow-up is an attempt to cover up a complete lack of basic expertise and a rip-off. Future customers beware.
