I have been going to Derosa for years and recommended them to many!!! Excellent customer service and above and beyond work. I've been using their coupon book, which gives me a free oil change with each visit when I include a service--and it's been a real lifesaver. As someone driving an 18-year-old car on a tight budget, I truly appreciate that I've never felt overcharged or taken advantage of. Quite the opposite, actually! I've been going to Derosa before I even had a car! I first discovered them when I was looking for someone to do pre-purchase inspections on a couple vehicles I was interested in purchasing. Peter and Ryan instantly gave me good vibes, and I've entrusted them with my vehicle maintenance ever since. I find the prices very reasonable, and they don't push services on me. I don't know a lot about vehicles, so I put a lot of trust in my mechanic to be ethical with their prescriptions. I have never felt taken advantage of in the slightest with these guys. Everything is very above-board, and they are pleasant to work with. Definitely recommend! My 2005 Matrix runs like a dream. read more

Adding to the last comment the new whistling sound was at the back of the car. That noise was definitely never heard before the time I picked it up. It is interesting to note that when I walked into the shop Ryan was using a hose and a broom to wipe up gasoline that was all over the floor under my car. A whole tank of gas must have been gone. Ryan's plan was that the car would break down, ICBC would have to tow it, and there would be some nut bar bullshit rap sheet written by this fool about the driver of this car. Not fine at all and everything can be proven of course. We can also check information about his life that will show that this is an aggressive n who cannot be trusted one bit. Ryan roared the engine in front of the shop and sped off without actually slowing down. He did not drive up to the driveway. Instead he dropped the car at break neck speed off the curb. He then roared up the street and then roared back like a manic madman. Obviously the car was in very different shape than it had been as soon as he got back. The muffler was as loud as a Harley Davidson when the car came back. A disturbing invoice was created by Ryan Elm before I left the shop stating that this car is no longer safe. None of that had been stated on the invoice that I received on that morning. Obviously some wrecking hammer destroyed this car after the initial invoice was sent. If Ryan was so concerned about the vehicle not being safe after spending time in this shop there are a few questions: 1) Why did he tell Brian Cotts to open the gate before showing me my car? 2) Why was there no tow truck waiting? I arrived there at the end of the day. The car was still up on the lift. One would expect that a truck would have been there ready to take my car away if it was ALL OF A SUDDEN not safe. Speaking of Brian Cotts we would like to give him a decent citizen's award for staying at the shop instead of leaving on a Friday evening to make sure a female customer was safe. Ryan's rage and entitlement is scary and we are concerned for other customers who need to be very aware. If you are female never stay alone with him after hours is the very best advice we can give you. Make sure Peter is there with you too, no matter what. Either that or stay away from this place. Not one word was said by Ryan except lies. The whole thing was a joke. All of a sudden everything possible was wrong with my car. How dare someone tinker around with our vehicle and screw things up!! We are wondering why Mr Elm would want to own our car. He wants it wrecked so he can steal it himself. We feel very badly for John De Rosa as we are certain he would be absolutely DISGUSTED to know that someone in this business is a wrecking ball. This, according to our lawyer with whom we spent the long weekend, is going to be a disaster for Ryan Elm who hoped it would be a disaster for us. read more

We have been taking are vehicles to Derosas for a number of years .I cannot say enough about the quality of work ,the follow up and service level . The work has always been as quoted ,they have never up sold us on work that was not required . II highly recommend these guys if you want quality workmanship and outstanding service . read more

I would advise people to be very careful when dealing with this garage. I dealt with them over several years and they seemed fair. They are indeed courteous and friendly. Before my last two visits I would have written them a very positive review. However, things started going wrong when, apropos of no problem I complained of, they said I needed a $3000 head gasket repair on my 2005 Subaru. I took the car to a mechanic I know personally and he said (1) the repair should only cost about $1500 and (2) it wasn't necessary. Got another car and again they recommended the expensive head gasket repair. Once more my mechanic friend said it was unnecessary. Two years later both cars are going strong. I used to recommend them enthusiastically to others but this experience totally soured them for me and I would never go back. (EDIT in response to Ryan). Ryan, I brought the car in for an oil change. No complaints of leakage or the car running rough. Was told while I was waiting, to my great surprise, that this expensive repair was necessary. The individual told me he could quote the price off the top of his head because it was so common with Subarus as the boxer engine design tore the engine block apart or some similar b.s. No cheaper options were offered to me. In fact, the water pump had been replaced by you as part of another expensive repair your business said was needed (timing belt replacement). I appreciate that you are trying to minimize the damage of bad reviews, and it may be that this experience was due to an individual you no longer employ, but it did happen exactly as I described. read more

I found the service genuine, knowledgeable and friendly. I went into Derosa for a second opinion after being told I needed to replace my transmission and differential fluids from another auto repair shop. The guys at Derosa checked everything out for me, and provided me with samples of various fluids, explained what each one was and showed a reference of how they should each look. They gave honest recommendations on what's fine, what I should consider soon and what's in urgent need of attention. They showed me that the transmission fluid was totally fine and showed/explained why I should replace my differential fluid which I did. The service was fast, affordable (about 20% lower than the original place's quote) and not once did I feel like I was being taken advantage of. read more

I took my old car in to determine why it wouldn't start unless boosted. (yes, the battery was new). After troubleshooting DeRosa traced it back to the computer, then came up with an innovative way to get around the problem without having to replace the computer.... which would have been much more expensive. I don't normally write negative reviews but these guys tried to play me. My wife put diesel in my Honda Civic and when it broke down she towed it to the nearest mechanic which was Derosa. They told me that the repairs would start at $700 but could be more. I spoke to my friend who's a mechanic and said that there's no way it should cost that much. I ended up having to tow it to another place to get the work done for $140. Car runs great now. Now I get junk mail from these guys once a month. Right on read more

I would recommend against taking a car to these guys. Dropped off my car with 1 cylinder misfiring. They quoted me 5 grand worth of work. I'll be the first to admit some of this work should be done in the future, but it was not required to fix the problem that I had brought my car in for initially. I denied the work (they were charging over a 300% mark up on parts, 1200 dollars for a timing belt/water pump, not gonna fly with me). After some talking with Lubrico which my car was covered under, they covered my diagnostics cost, something that Lubrico usually doesn't do. They did this because they have also had bad experiences dealing with Derosa. When I went to pick up my Subaru, that theoretically had no work done, now had cylinder 2 and cylinder 4 misfiring. I know this because I have my own OBD2 scanner. I'm not saying they did this on purpose, but clearly there was some poor work done here. There are lots of shops in North Van, find one that won't rip you off. read more

Excellent Automotive shop. The first time I dealt with Derosa it was after another repair shop misdiagnosed the problem and handed me a large bill. The same problem still persisted. I didn't feel like dealing with them again so I brought it to these guys and was very pleased, they diagnosed the problem, fixed it at a very reasonable rate and were upfront and honest the whole way through. The Second time I required their service I tried troubleshooting a problem on my own, couldn't figure it out so I brought it into the shop. They called me up, again were totally upfront and honest, explained the price of repair and fixed the problem at a very reasonable rate. I've dealt with many shops all over the Lower mainland and hands down this is the best one I've dealt with. I would highly recommend them. read more
