You can get a full meal for $7-10; just pick two of your favorite items. The hours are great too; I'm a night owl at heart. Knowing I can roll up and fill random Asian cravings at 2 AM just makes life feel better. Now for the food. The combo, a big variety meal for $10, comes with dumplings, pork bun, chicken curry, sauce, and a drink. The dumplings are nice by themselves, but for some extra fun you can eat half and dip the other half in sauce. The sauce then goes inside the dumpling--and boy is it good! Just spicy enough, and flavorful. Put the sauce on the pork bun, too. The pork bun kind of needs it, unfortunately; the bread is seldom easy to eat and there isn't much pork in there. But the sauce almost makes up for it! The chicken curry takes up the most space on the combo tray, and you get a lot! The chicken is cut large and chunky, but it falls apart in your mouth, so it isn't hard to eat. The curry sauce has some spice flavor and goes with the rice really well. Cilantro haters beware, however: they heap the stuff right on the chicken. Nothing an ask won't fix, but be mindful. If you want a smaller, but still complete and flavorful, meal, definitely go for the sweet and sour noodles. It's really deceptive just how much food they can put in one small foam box! They top it off with apple slices, which is a really great touch you have to eat to believe. Oh, and they're just $4. For the same price as a Big Mac you can get a much tastier, much more satisfying meal that's not made of processed garbage. The filling was nice and juicy. The sauce it came with was okay tasted a bit of hoisin and a sweet Thai chili sauce. It's was almost 2 AM when we were craving some hearty dumplings. We came here on a friends recommendation, who said that this is the place to be for UVA college kids (explains why the tables are a bit sticky). We had to wait a bit since there was little seating available - let alone for a group of 6. We ordered a rather large number of dumplings with sesame noodles and pork buns. The pricing here is quite reasonable, especially for the amount of food given. The dumplings looked superb as we watched them come out piping hot off the stove, which was visible from where we were seated. The sauce drizzled on top went well with the dumplings and pork puns, but I found the pork buns to be lacking in flavor, except when doused in sauce. I totally get it now you guys. This is a small, unassuming restaurant with delicious food. My girlfriend and I got two orders of the dumplings and an order of the steamed pork bun. The dumplings are deep-fried and topped with a spicy soy sauce. Just fantastic - the soy sauce I could drink out of the bottle. The dumplings had a crunchy outside and a hot inside. The pork bun was interesting - the dough was light, soft, and fluffy, with a liquid interior of bits of pork and that soy sauce. I was a little disappointed there wasn't more pork, but the dough really soaks up the sauce and more than made up for it. All-in-all, the great taste of the food coupled with the really low prices ($3.50 for six dumplings and something like $4 for the steamed pork bun) makes this place worthy of a five star review. read more

Of course, there are exceptions to this (e.g.: West Main) and now there is Marco & Luca. This self-proclaimed dumpling store is not to be confused with Marco & Lucas Noodle Shop on 2nd Street or Marco Luca Noodle Shop on E. Main Street. This recently opened eatery has a very simple menu of cheap and delicious choices. Three dollars will get you 6 pan fried dumplings and a buck fifty will get you a hot and sour soup. The staff doesn't speak much English, but that doesn't get in the way of their charm and extremely friendly service. The place itself is clean and setup nicely for small groups to gather for a quick meal. Our trip to Marco & Luca Noodle Shop goes down as one of the best places I've eaten in Charlottesville. It's no NYC or Flushing, Queens Chinatown experience, but that's what puts this place into perspective.. for a location like Charlottesville, M&L shines brighter than it's surrounding, less-than-satisfying restaurant options. read more

I'm a fan of the price, crispy dumpling skin, and the sweet soy sauce that I've never been able to replicate at home. This place is fantastically affordable on a college (or grad) student budget for a decent amount of flavorful comfort food. If you feel like just having some dumplings, get 2 orders. They're perfectly pan-fried with a sizable amount of pork stuffing in each tiny dumpling. Yes, they are small, but they usually give you 6-7 per order with a yummy sauce poured over ($3.50). I usually get 1 order of dumplings and the cold peanut noodles (served with cucumber, $4). The noodles are refreshing in contrast to the heartier dumplings, and they pack the little styrofoam container with as much as they can. Good stuff. The sweet & spicy noodles (served with apple slices) are also pretty good, but the sauce has always tasted very similar to the dumpling sauce to me, so I personally prefer the differing peanut sauce. The place is small and meant for moving customers through quickly (for example, in between classes). It's a quick and easy meal. For just a few dollars you can get an order of six dumplings, and sometimes seven if you're lucky. I usually get one order and a drink and I'm good to go. This place did not disappoint. I imagine coming here after a night out and having their freshly cooked dumplings. I tried their signature dumplings and their cold noodles. Both were an A+. The service was great but on a Saturday afternoon they're pretty packed. I appreciate their hours of operation which go on till the late night. The seating however is very limited and not too spacious but that does not hinder me from coming back. I've heard great things about this place from other college students not just students from UVA. My friend brought some back to VCU and they were still good however better when fresh. The price is unbeatable. 4 bucks for 6 dumplings, count me in.
