I can't imagine not coming here- my 2nd home- till the day I leave this earth.. The best environment to learn in a very fun , safe environment where the level of teaching is very high. They are there everyday teaching-not absentee Professor Marco who I met in 2007.. Professor Christina co-owns the school & they are married to each other. One of the best decisions I ever made was to join this school all those years ago

Marco Nascimento Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a friendly, fun, clean, and spacious academy. This gym is cleanly and professionally set up and maintained. Marco takes hygiene very seriously, and enforces this concept. Due to the covid pandemic, extra hygiene protocols are in place including: -high velocity air circulation and air exchange. -feet and hand sanitaion. -weekly covid testing for the teachers. -mats and equipment are sanitized constantly. -proof of vacination is required. Sign up for 1 week of free classes! There's no pressure to join at the end of the week. Just see how you like it and go from there. I'm glad my friend and colleague, Rowshan Ahani, encouraged me to join. I am at his debt. No egos; minimal injuries; and a strong cadre of upper belts have helped point out my weaknesses, and focus areas/techniques to help me develop faster. This is a great place to learn modern BJJ technique & roll with friendly folks. Side note - the kids classes here are excellent as my grandkids have enrolled here. Marco is a technical, ACCOMPLISHED and phenomenal teacher. As a former educator, I can tell when a professor is full of bull shit. Under his eye, you'll learn techniques and really sharpen your skill. I took 2 private lessons before competitions and got 2 gold metals (probably beginer's luck.) I have been visiting this gym for years now. Marco and his wife Christina have built a strong sense of community, and it's clear to see how he retains rapport with his team. The gym has plenty of positive energy, respect, playfulness and welcoming attitude. The students constantly supporting each other. There's a strong sense of teamwork and being in class together, rather than being there for just yourself. It's a judgement free zone meaning all levels and experience are welcomed! Prime location accessible via highway 92 near Safeway, they have a shared parking lot but if it gets full I've never had an issue with street parking. Classes are structured in an effective way, warm up/stretching, technique lesson, drilling, situational sparring and finally sparring.  I'm actually bummed out when I'm late and miss the warm up/ stretching. I'm 62 years old and NEED to warm up and stretch before going through the gauntlet.   This academy does not take part in gouging practices.  Here there are no yearly membership, no manditory belt fees, no manditory high price seminars, no manditory high priced uniforms, or no manditory private classes. San Mateo is lucky to have such an amazing gem of a gym!

My son joined Marco Nascimento BJJ in August 2019. We explored many different sports options before coming to this academy. Something about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu just clicked for him. He loves it! I share this review with gratitude for the approach the team of instructors takes with the children's classes. They find the right balance between fun and disciplined training allowing each student at all competitive levels to find the path that suits their individual goals. If you want to push to compete in tournaments the opportunity is there. There are some highly skilled and decorated teammates to roll with and a solid group of parents to lean on. Marco and Christina Nascimento have created a family oriented environment, that encourages community among parents, students and instructors while also encouraging full inclusion with special needs families. Character. Community. Competition. You'll find that here. I encourage anyone curious to come by and try it out for a week. Special thanks to Rafael Fidelis for the private lessons with my son. Has made a world of difference.

i have been doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1996 and this is the best place I have every trained. I drive 40 miles each way just to train with the main instructor Marco Nascimento. I went through 5 different instructors before I met him and have been training with him since 2002. Pros: He will actually roll with the students during class. He teaches all his classes. Safe environment. Takes individuals body type and shape into consideration when teaching. Passionate about BJJ. Cons: Everytime he "turns it on", he makes me feel like a little biatch.

They give you a one week free trial and they put on a good show in front of the parents. Once they have you locked in for a year everything changes. The class sizes are huge. There are not enough coaches for one on one instruction. Your child becomes just a number and they are not personable with the parents unless your child is one of their favorites. They use sexist language like, "don't cry! What are you a girl?" They mock, yell at and tease the students. They take away stripes as punishment if your child speaks during class. If any of that is your style maybe you will like it. The instruction is sub par. My child is excelling at their new studio. People go to Gracie because of the name and you will see a lot of rich, affluent parents chatting with each other out front. On another note. Parking is terrible and there is nothing to do on that street, not even a coffee shop. Classes are at the height of traffic. I do not recommend this studio. *edit. We were told that we were REQUIRED to sign a one year contract. The response to me below means either they have changed that policy or the response is untruthful. I stand by every word of my review. I was made to sign a contract.

The coaches are firm and technical, but also fun, caring, thoughtful, and understanding; my kids love it here! My older, quieter son has developed strength and confidence, and my younger, energetic son has learned to manage his strong emotions; skills they didn't even realize they were developing through their training and amazing coaches! As a single mom, I really appreciate the support and teaching from each of the coaches, not only in jiujitsu, but also in strong positive values, compassion, mindfulness, and community. The coaches take the time to individualize their training to each student's personality and needs, and I have been awed at times by their patience. Students learn the importance of respect/kindness for others, regardless of differences; they learn to feel comfortable and confident with themselves and with peers. This inspired me to also start training 2 years ago, as I saw that the classes, coaches, and students are all so welcoming! And I have noticed positive changes both physically and mentally (much needed with 2 kids and work!). The school has always been understanding and flexible to our schedule and genuinely tries to work with families' various needs to the best of their ability. Coach Cris and Larissa are both wonderful to work with, and their kindness has fostered this community that many have commented "feels like family" (it really does!). My kids have developed long-lasting friendships where classmates stay to have dinner after class with us (next door at PJ's Pizza!), and I am finding the same sense of family in the adult classes. My sons and I are so fortunate to have found Charles Gracie San Mateo!!

I've been going to this boxing gym for about 5 months now and consider this my home boxing gym…read more I've been to other "fitbox" gyms that come nowhere close to the quality of instruction you get from the experienced trainers at B Street Boxing. The gym atmosphere is welcoming to all attendees and there is a strong sense of community among the regulars. As for the gym itself, there are lots of heavy bags spaced throughout the gym and two boxing rings against the far wall. This is a place where you will learn real boxing! Most of the gym goers here are men (there are separate kids' classes too) and as a woman, that has never bothered me. Everyone is respectful, helpful, and very kind. People practice good sportsmanship and aren't looking to "prove" anything. There are several instructors and I've enjoyed classes with every one I've tried so far (Eddie, Val, Ritesh). Each instructor has a different teaching style and area of expertise, so you can learn something from everyone. Boxing classes are mostly bag work, with occasional partner work. Every so often there is also no contact/light contact sparring in the ring. It may seem intimidating at first, but everyone here prioritizes safety, and it's nice to put the skills you've practiced to the test. Overall you get a great mix of different aspects of boxing to work on--punches, combos, defense, footwork, etc, all while building up stamina. Classes usually wrap up with core work or other exercises off the bag. You will work hard! Take water breaks if you need. The coaches here also do private training for competitive fighting, for those interested. For people looking to learn a new sport from instructors that have spent time in the ring, look no further. This is a safe and welcoming place to learn.

I tried out a few boxing gyms before settling here. The other gyms had nicer facilities and had…read moremore people (although I've ben going during working hours so take this with a heavy grain of salt). But for me, this is the gym to go to in the Bay Area. Why? In coming to a boxing gym, I wasn't just looking for a workout. Yes, I want to get in shape. But you can do that in any number of ways. I also wanted to learn how to box. How to throw a cross, a jab, how to slip, how to measure distance. In other gyms I went to, it's basically a Barry's bootcamp with a heavy bag. You do an exercise routine that also has some punching. And it's great exercise! But at B Street, you not only get a hard, hard workout, but also a lot of coaching. In my first week (which was free), they started by showing me all the basic moves. Where to put my hands, how to move my feet. When I got some gear, they showed me how to wrap my hands. And during class, they not only take you through a high intensity workout routine, but also step in to make sure you're moving your body correctly, keeping your guard up. You'll get time in the ring with the coaches to do pad work and feel what it's actually like to have to move around an opponent and measure out your distance (this is *very* different from bag work!). You can even spar if you want, but I haven't got to this point yet and will probably hold off until I get into better shape. The coaches are all awesome, definitely know what they're talking about, and are incredibly nice. They meet you where you are and work from there. They're not afraid to push you to your limits, but never in a way that's mean or disrespectful. The community is also an awesome surprise. Everyone I've met there has been really nice and willing to take a second to help out a beginner with some basic tips. No egos or anything, just good people trying to help each other out. If you get in at the right time, you can also see B Street's Amateur team at work! No shortage of talent at this gym. Plus, they only charge $125/month. The bang for the buck is definitely there. Tl;dr - If you're looking for a boxing gym that will actually teach you something, this is the place to go.

Donna was amazing with the cake and we all enjoyed it.  She asked us our preference on flavor and design. We chose chocolate and Transformers theme.  Cake was delivered to the facility.  She even threw in balloons and decorations and set it up.  She happened to be back at the party and helped with cake cutting too.  Sebastián was there to explain the rules to the kids for our nerf battle.  Safety was great and goggles were provided.  He was so patient with the kids.  He constantly checked in with us to advise us on status and flow of party.
