Visiting from Utah (we have kooky liquor laws here), it was a complete novelty to find someone selling alcohol at a farmer's market. We did the thing where we were standing some distance away, discussing if we should check it out, maybe it would be better to hit it as we left...and the gentleman manning the booth motioned us over, saying he had a hot toddy for us to taste. He was so charmingly friendly, we could hardly refuse, and I'm always open to trying a bit of anything. Friends, that hot toddy was perfection. I don't really drink, but I could totally imagine myself reclining by a fire, sipping a bit on an autumn or winter's night. My husband, who decidedly IS a drinker, loved it as well. Perfectly flavored, it tasted strongly of real apples, with a light sweetness that (dangerously?) hid the alcohol. It included both their apple brandy and apple liquor, and you can pick up a recipe at the booth (or just take a picture as I did, and have included below). I also tried a nip of the strawberry rhubarb apertif, which was very sweet (though not too much!), and brought to mind a superior version of port. I was into it. They also sell peppermint, ginger, and pomegranate liquors, along with a ryegrass whiskey. I believe all were available in either 375 or 750ml bottles, for around $20 and $30, respectively. The packaging is beautiful and high quality, and you can purchase their products at a few brick and mortar retailers, as well as online at liquorama.net, however you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not experiencing the hospitality of the company directly, either by visiting the farmers market, or even better (I imagine), their tasting room. Not wishing to be burdened by heavy bottles of liquor for our trip, I limited us to just one, and we opted for the apple brandy. I can't wait to use it for baking, and I know we'll be serving lucky guests hot toddies as the weather cools.

We looked forward to getting another bottle and did so in 2023. The visit to the tasting room was fun, and we left with another Walnut and Fig. When we got home and opened it I found it barely drinkable. I tried the fig old fashioned, which was definitely the best flavored old fashioned I've ever had. They also had a strawberry slush that I added strawberry vodka to which turned out to be a welcome respite from the record heat. We were huge fans of all the whiskeys we tried, and the bartenders were so friendly and skilled at drink making. We enjoyed our conversation with the bartender from Hawaii! Sadly we never made it to the original location (we live in Salem) but the new restaurant & bar is absolutely fantastic and a place worth driving for. We finally decided to come by and do trivia with Aaron (Oregon Trivia Company) and were so glad we did--Aaron has been one of our favorite hosts around Salem for many years now and when he said he was starting to do shows at Divine Distillers on Thursday nights (ya'll need to come have fun with us! :) we knew we'd be there. As usual, it didn't disappoint--just the right amount of challenging/fun questions, great hosting & an enjoyable way to break up the work week! The space is quite large with plenty of seating for groups and they're working on putting in a beer garden with fire pits--looks like it'll be a super fun place to meet up with friends & hang out this summer. It's usually pretty chill there on a weeknight so it's easy to relax and take your time. The drink menu is very creative & fun with everything from beer to cocktails to ciders, all featuring pours made right in-house by the talented staff. Check out one of their flights to get a taste of multiple sips & pick your new favorite! Also, the food here BLOWS US AWAY. Seriously some of the best food we've had in a very long time. Andrea has two great authentic handmade Italian liqueurs - Calisaya & Iris. His humble operation is…read morea must visit. He is very Italian - he threatened to kill me when I asked for his recipe. Calisaya has a lot go'en on. The lovely translucent copper color is derived mostly from cinchona bark - a product from Peru, which also has a very interesting history with Italy/Rome dating back to the 1600's. He uses over a dozen aromatic botanicals & flowers to create this beguiling lovely elixir. It has a whiff of bitter orange, leather, spice. A wonderful mouth feel that goes down very smooth. Sort of a clean tasting incense - not smoky or too dense. The other is Iris. A soft straw color, not completely different, more like a family member, perhaps slightly less complexity, maybe a teeny tiny wee bit sweeter, but definitely more floral notes.
