I made a reservation for the chef's tasting at the chef's counter, and from the moment I arrived, the team already knew my name and immediately seated me. Sitting at the counter gives you an intimate view into everything happening in the kitchen. The energy was fast-paced and precise--it honestly felt like I was inside an episode of The Bear. The chef curated an incredible five-course tasting, and the sommelier paired each course with wines that complemented everything perfectly. I won't even try to list every dish because I honestly don't remember them all. The menu isn't fixed, and I imagine each experience is a little different. I was too busy enjoying every bite and soaking in the experience to focus on memorizing details. The chef table experience was wonderful. Appreciate the thoughtfulness in crafting a menu that was suited to my dietary needs. The service was exquisite. The meal started with caviar on a latke that was crispy on the outside and creamy inside. Next was a bluefin tuna tartare with wasabi cream and radishes, this dish was beautiful and had the perfect balance of textures. Our third dish was a caramelized scallop with a dairy free hollandaise sauce, the sauce was tart and absolutely delicious. The next dish was the stand out for me, steamed cod with the most amazing vegetables--this was absolute perfection! The last dish was a cherry sorbet inside a vanilla meringue cup which was so pretty! Really appreciated this addition, as finding dairy free and gluten free desserts can be challenging. Went to Marcus for breakfast on the last day of the trip. It's located in the 4 Seasons hotel. We had a reservation but it was not very busy on a Monday morning, and we were seated immediately. Our server was very sweet and took a drink order right away. For food, we went with the lobster omelet and the salmon bagel. The lobster omelet was filled with lobster meat, which was refreshing. The Gruyere sauce on top added a nice juxtaposition, pairing a little savory with the sweetness inherent to lobster, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The salmon bagel was on a different level of bagel. So much salmon meat inside, bagel perfectly cooked, cream cheese and the capers adding a nice pop of saltiness. It was very hard to get my mouth around for a complete bite, unfortunately, but we managed. We started with drinks at the bar we got here a little before the reservation time. I was really impressed that they would explain how they made that powder on the drink and how is was named the forbidden fruit. Illegal in the states, apparently every perfume that has a vanilla sent has that fruit in it. I always find it interesting to learn random facts. It was time to find a table we started with the tuna and the salmon as appetizer easy quick bites. We got the eggplant as a main I was not a fan. My friend loved it. We finish with 3 little bites one was a brownie with walnuts, a berry jelly and the last one he called it a raspberry rice crispy. To their credit, when our appetizer took way too long to come, they gave us a second appetizer for free. Didn't like that they warned us twice that we only had the table for two hours and would have to go to the neighboring lounge if we didn't finish in time. By the time we were done (since their service was so slow) it was past two hours but there were plenty of empty tables and they didn't make us move. Didn't like that they made us feel rushed. Rappini was dead on arrival, I like my veggies on the lively crisper side. We were presented with a dessert tray which I have to say I haven't seen since the late 80s and I was delighted. It's a great marketing tool and it worked! We had the raspberry tart drizzled with olive oil, and the Japanese cheesecake which was like eating a creamy cloud (they nailed the texture) served with sliced plums and a compote. Decor: this is a knock out, French glam, retro modern, loved the airiness afforded by the terrace and the tropical plantings. The counter seating looked fun for foodies. Perhaps a consequence of post Covid times, the crowd isn't overly dressy.. either that or I'm just too old to care. I walked in with a floral print shirt, my vuori pants and sneakers. I regret not checking the washrooms, next time! I stayed at the Four Seasons and came down for dinner around 6pm on a Tuesday. I didn't have a reservation but they gave me a table over at the lounge area. The restaurant wasn't super busy but I was also under dressed, so maybe that's why they sat me in the lounge space. They were polite about it though and willing to serve me from the full menu. I ordered the burrata which was pretty good. It had a light yuzu flavour which I appreciated. I ordered the piccadilly lobster pasta. The pasta dish was so bland and the lobster was over cooked. The pasta was cooked al dente, but wish it was bit softer. It wasn't any near what I expected for $44. I ended my meal off with a strawberry tart. My tart took almost 30 min to come, and the manager was kind enough to remove it from my bill. The tart had a really strong yuzu flavour and was sour from the strawberries. The flavours didn't go well together and I didn't enjoy it. The decor and ambience of this place is so nice and pretty! The service was excellent as well. My bill came to around $100, not including the dessert that the manager compd. I have to say that the food was definitely super disappointing. read more

Lovely Xmas eve dinner here. Absolutely loved the bread and salted French butter. The salads were awesome- the greens was more than enough to share, and the tomato/ burrata/ watermelon was smaller, and amazing. We split the cauliflower and the Branzino, which was a good call after all the salad. The cauliflower was my fave of the meal- apparently fried first and then baked. Tender all the way through and super flavorful. Gosh was fine, but not extraordinary. But the dessert- special for Xmas I believe- called eggnog chocolate something- was very shareable, with dark creamy chocolate, and something a little crunchy also, which was a great combo. We had breakfast at Marcus, located on one of the upper floors of the Four Seasons. Excellent service, which is on-brand for a FS dining experience. Never an empty coffee cup or water glass, everything is prepared to diner preference (including weird modifications for kid palates), and the food was delicious. I tried the Marcus scramble (the eggs were silky and lush), another of us had the lobster omelette (also delicious), and our youngest diner had the pancakes (every accompaniment on the side - of course). I'm no longer recommending Marcus as my favourite place to eat at for dinner. The dinner we had was expensive (which is fine) but deeply disappointing. The breakfast is still excellent but the lunch and dinner menus leave a lot to be desired. Here is what the table had to say about what they each ordered: Focaccia was agreed to be the best item of the entire night. I think this says it all about how the rest of the meal went, when everyone had wished they just ordered bread instead. ---- Cauliflower: Mushy, soft, steamed. Junk thrown on top. Probably the worst dish of the night. Octopus: Overcooked. Another disappointment. Lobster Pasta: Oily, and not enough pasta. Black Cod: Fine, but what was the edamame doing in that? It had no business being there. Branzino: Fine. Probably the best one of all the options if you must choose one because someone else is paying. Truffle Fries: Can't even taste the truffle, huge disappointment. Overall, everything is also too salty which ruins the flavour of the otherwise good raw ingredients, but this place for lunch and dinner is no longer a viable option for us. For desserts, they were across the board a disappointment as well. Sloppily conceived as dishes and not well excited (Baba au rhum for instance, is normally not a hard block of stale cake.) Breakfast still remains excellent but it's hard to screw that up. Will definitely not be coming back except for breakfast. It is either he is now just trading on his fame and name, or whoever is in charge of the menu is just experimenting. Ambiance is always excellent, waitstaff cannot be denied. BREATHTAKING INTERIOR DESIGN! When I walked in, the interior design was beautiful! The lounge and restaurant are aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. She made our experience fun and she is kind to keep checking up on us. Dishes: Tuna tartare, it was fresh and nice, we asked for rice chips on the side to use it as a dip. The tuna needed a bit more of a seasoning and citrus flavour to bring out the freshness and remove the fishy taste. I asked for a slice of lime on the side. Overall, the rice chips was delicious with this tuna tartare Picadilly, this dish was my least favourite. It looked sooo saucy but the flavours were bland. Crab wasn't as fresh and the lobster was a bit overcooked. Overall it was generic Lamb chops: my fav dish out of the 3, I would just order 2 of these with the tuna tartare and call it a night. The lamb is tender and they cooked it perfectly when I asked for medium rare. The flavours and sauces were perfect! Drinks: mock tails - edens garden , refreshing citrus, tangy and sweet. The second time we came for dinner and drinks. Our waiter was super helpful and fast, drinks were just as good as the day before but a little less strong so I wonder if sitting at the bar is an advantage. You definitely pay for the location and decor more than the quality of the food. Located inside the Four Season Hotel downtown. The restaurant is very nice and has an open terrace. Must say that the restaurant and hotel did a good job at taking precautions during the pandemic. You must disinfect your hands as soon as you walk in the hotel and must wear a mask until you seat down at your table. I went to the bathroom during dinner and had forgotten to put my mask and was reminded that I must wear a mask while walking around ~ good job! The restaurant also added flexi-glass separator in between tables that were too close to each other. Now for the drinks ~ good selection and drinks were nice but definitely ok the pricey side. The cheapest glass of bubbly was $20. For the food, I took a tuna tartare and it didn't look nor tasted amazing for the price tag. I had made a tuna tartare myself over the weekend and it tasted and looked much better than what has been presented in such a " high end " restaurant. As for the crowd there...definitely people who want to be seen ~ younger patrons in their early 20s. If not, much older people with money most likely people who are staying at the hotel. I feel like this is a place you go to be seen and pay for the decor rather than for the food itself. What an experience this restaurant is!! As soon as you walk in downstairs, they make you feel welcomed and COVID measures are directly taken (temperature check and hand gel). Marcus is on the third floor and the floor it's on has a lounge area and a bar as well. The bathrooms are absolutely splendid and deserve their own moment! The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning. It is very obvious a lot of thought has been put in the design and architecture process. We were greeted by our waitress who immediately brought us hot bread with sumac butter, it was delicious! We ordered oysters, the tomato salad, the green salad as starters. Everything was very good, felt very fresh as well. The oysters had two different sauces on the side and both were delicious. The tomato salad is, in my opinion, better than the green salad. The mix of ingredients and the mozzarella just ties the whole plate together. As main plates, we ordered the gindara salmon (absolutely delicious, the glazed gindara is phenomenal), the chicken breast (could've gone without, wasn't the most impressive), the fried chicken (was a little scared to order this at first, but definitely did not regret, it was out of the ordinary. The spicy honey sauce is incredible) and the wagyu burger (extremely tender meat, very well put together). All and all, Marcus is an out of the ordinary culinary experience in Montréal. I used to like it and bring customers to this place. Unfortunately, the last two times were disastrous. The person I was with ordered their signature lobster pasta dish, and the lobster was like rubber. They were kind enough to replace the lobster, but it was barely more edible, still very rubbery. It's like they first boil all their lobster in advance and then gently grill it when customers order it. The problem is that they seem to have overcooked the entire batch, so they can only replace one rubbery lobster for another rubbery lobster. The pasta itself was also tasteless. I went again for brunch last Saturday and my egg Benedict was weak: the salmon was not very fresh and the English muffin soggy. We were a group of four who came here for dinner on a Friday night. I was excited to try out the restaurant because of Marcus Samuelsson's reputation. The restaurant is on the third floor of the hotel and features a chic interior. Despite the fact that it is an upscale restaurant it doesn't have an ultra formal vibe to it. Seafood is the star here. We started with a seafood platter which at $150 was suitable to split four ways. It consisted of oysters, clams, shrimp, several kinds of sashimi, lobster and crab. For the most part I enjoyed it with the tuna sashimi being my favourite part. Certain aspects of the platter though missed the mark such as the clams. From there we split halibut and pasta with crab. Both dishes were very well prepared though the pasta could have contained more crab. I did like the addition of breadcrumbs to the pasta. It added a little crunch to the dish. For dessert we split sorbet, doughnut with peanut butter ice cream and apple fondant. The sorbet was mango flavoured and the mango dominated the taste. It wasn't overly sweet. The doughnuts were just okay but the peanut butter ice cream was excellent. As for the apple fondant I found that it was okay. Nothing terrible but nothing great either. There were also issues with the service. It seemed that our waiter paid more attention to some tables than to others. Perhaps he thought that he could get a better tip from those tables? We also never received bread and upon asking about this we were told you only got bread if you asked for it. That being said the waiter never told us this at the beginning of the meal so we didn't know that this was how the restaurant operates. As much as I wanted to like Marcus it just didn't live up to the hype. If I am paying top dollar for a meal I want to be blown away and I have to say that I wasn't. But every thing we ordered was very good and creative of course very fresh. We ordered whole red snapper with bokchoy. And watermelon and tomatoes caprese. Watermelon was strong seared with Gin that was very different and tasty with caprese. Red snapper was very fresh and cooked very well with simply tasty. Also Bokchoy cooked great.
