    Salmon tartare
    Jody W.

Stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner yesterday. The location was beyond convenient since the restaurant is attached to the Courtyard Marriott (and we didn't feel like going terribly far). We started with some complementary warm bread...more like crostini...with whipped butter. We ordered a bottle of Syrah and decided on the salmon tartare appetizer. The plan was to share the salmon but we were told that it was rather small. On the contrary...the portion was actually rather generous: chopped pieces of raw salmon combined with a little bit of mayonnaise and onion; topped with arugula and a small piece of tomato. Underneath was a lovely avocado purée.... served with a side of that delicious bread. We were going to order another appetizer and then entrées. We had the nachos and only ate a little bit before we had to call it quits. Got full fast! The nachos were very good and served with plenty of jalapeños. The menu is extensive with plenty of variety. The service was a little bit slow but we did arrive between lunch and dinner services. We also weren't in a rush so we didn't mind the relaxed pace.

Another work even here. I have to say the service at this restaurant is excellent. Our party was large, around 18-20 ppl. We had around 8 appetizers to share. That's 8 different appetizers each. And every single one of them was delicious. For mains we had 2 mains... yes I know I sound like a pig but this was a work event. We had the Italian sausage pasta and a 16 oz steak. The pasta was good not amazing. I thought I wouldn't have room for the steak but boy was I wrong. The gravy that came with the steak was soooo good I finished 75% of my steak even though I was so full. As for dessert I got a pistachio ice cream. It was so smooth and it came with a cannoli. Amazing. Once again I was rolling out of the restaurant. I definitely will be back.

Crepes with caramelized apples and cheddar, yum!

He gave not only the best drink recommendations, but also gave us a hand written list of his favorite spots in MTL (drinks, dining, activities, etc). The first time, the music was extremely loud, and it seemed like they were short-staffed. The bar was completely packed, and there was only one bartender making drinks, so the wait was a bit longer than expected. We decided to give it another try, and I'm so glad we did. The second visit was amazing! The bartender working that night was incredible--she clearly knows her craft and made our drinks quickly without sacrificing quality. Every cocktail was delicious, and the overall experience was much more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend The Coldroom. My only suggestion would be that, with a space that busy, the bar could really benefit from having an additional bartender during peak hours. It would help keep wait times down and make an already great experience even better.

Unfortunately, when I arrived, I found a notice on the door indicating that the restaurant was currently closed, even though it was supposed to open at 5 PM according to Yelp. I understand these things happen, and I appreciate their communication. I'm looking forward to dining here in the future and will update my review once I have the chance to experience it properly. For now, just a heads-up for fellow diners!

Service was phenomenal and our waiter checked in frequently with us. The food was absolutely immaculate. My favorite starter was the salmon crudo. For the main, two people carried out a mouth dropping spread of tiger shrimp, scallops, grilled octopus, lobster, lamb chops and a tomahawk. More than enough food for the 6 and everything was cooked perfectly- octopus wasn't chewy and the meats were super flavorful and tender. They were very accommodating to dietary restrictions as well. They had a DJ and lively atmosphere after dinner so we stayed and got bottle service. Fun spot with great food is always a winner in my eyes. I will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Montreal!
