Such a wonderful dining experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were sat near the chef station so we got to enjoy watching the hustle of the chefs and their attention to detail for every dish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our meals were wonderful and delightfully interesting. The waitstaff were prompt, attentive, and fun! Would highly recommend the scallop ceviche appetizer, I am still dreaming of it!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A good traditional cafe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I went for Sunday lunch started with the canapes and then the steak frites. The canapes were the highlight, particular the mousse, it was great. No complaints with the steak but it did not blow me away, same for the fries.

The hostess was super friendly. We had walked in and was worried that reservations were required but the hostess was so welcoming . We had such a wonderful experience and the food was great. Our server explained the menu very well. The food was delicious and presentation was beautiful. We were so full and didn't want to miss out on dessert so we ordered them to go. There were only 2 desserts that were not an option for to go.

Sweet breads: in puff pastry, truffle, veggies and cream. Excellent. 9.16.24

Montreal. I enjoyed my first dinner here. So much so Place Carmin is going to be on my dinner desti next trip. So, the food is French (some dishes modernized) and the menu had a variety to please many preferences. But man I was nicely surprised. Each dish except for the crème brûlée was cloud 9. Not that the cb was bad it was pretty good. From the bread, butter, to the pâté, vegetables and mains, we were super impressed with the flavors and components to each dish. The sweetbreads en croute were 2die4. If you're a beef fan, I hear the steaks and the Rossini (with truffle and grilled foie) are super bon. Service was prompt, efficient, considerate (one of the members of my party was new to the French language and food). Despite being a large restaurant I could not help but appreciate the well-oiled kitchen operation too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In summer the garden patio opens up. Sit there if you like outdoor seating. It is a bit humid (if you're ok with that).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All the boxes were checked for me at this restaurant. Merci. Place Carmin! End of Yelp.

Such an amazing meal with fantastic service! We had our last meal in Montreal here and it did. It disappoint. The food was delicious! We ordered the duck and the Beef bourguignon. The duck was our favorite out of the 2. Cooked perfectly and the skin was so crispy. It was the best duck we had on our trip. It was a standout entree. We also ordered a side of snow crab since it was in season. Super fresh and slightly sweet. Also delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is super cute too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend!

This spot used to be Le Local... now Place Carmin and the look of the place is totally different. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Love the bright, clean white interior with mirror trickery making it seem a bigger space than it actually is.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Nice! Table D'Hote at lunch on a weekday for $40, which is great value. Soup or salad, a main (meat, fish or veggie) and a dessert. We both chose the salad, pear, walnut? radicchio, a beautiful pink-leaf lettuce and Parmesan. The server said it came with a balsamic vinaigrette but it was actually a creamy, cheesy dressing and very good. Backing up for a moment, we ordered vodka martinis and my second (ha) seemed all vermouth. I think they just added more pickle juice to fix it, but it was missing the crispness of the 1st glass. :( Maybe not shaken enough? Next! Was the veggie pappardelle and the lamb. The pasta itself was so toothful and wonderful but the sauce a little too salty for me (I am sodium sensitive). Still loved the capers, tomatoes and the breadcrumbs for crunch (see photo). I'm not a lamb lover, but my companion's plate looked enviable and presentation flawless! Dessert was a St Honoré that was so delightful... a tiny bite of so many great things at once. Cream, toffee, pastry... I loved it. Overall, will definitely re-visit and explore other lunch menus. They will also have a terrasse in summer! So see you again, Place Carmin!

Smoked salmon with green apples and Creme fraiche
    Joyce Z.

Stopped by for lunch after a morning at Notre Dame. We started with a small bite, Florentine gougeres and instead of an entree, I personally opted for the French Onion Soup and an appetizer. The Smoked salmon with green apples and Creme fraiche appetizer was my favorite as it was light and refreshing with the flavors melding together perfectly. The pork filet entree hubs got was unfortunately was on the drier side but the service was excellent retaining its 4 stars.

Long story short: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Delicious, high quality food, great service and beautiful interior.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was a wonderful experience and reasonably priced. Long story long: Best believe this is our new go-to spot for fine dining. It's listed on the Michelin guide for Montreal and I was excited to give it a try. We ordered a few dishes to share. To start, our canapés were deviled eggs and mackerel mousse, which were nice, fresh, not too fancy and decently priced. For appetizers, we had the scallop ceviche (so delicious and tangy, a favourite), Boston lettuce (that had a wonderful yogurt sauce, making it bright and fresh), and bone marrow (words cannot describe this, also a favourite. It was so rich and tender and a great portion, next time I'm going to order my own because dang I regret sharing it). We also had a side of mushrooms, which came in a cute little pot, also great. For mains, we shared the cod (delicious and bright). I'm not usually a cod fan, but this was excellent. Finally, we had the canard à l'orange (orange duck). It was lovely, delicious and beautiful plating. Incredible and on par with the bone marrow. A must. The service was great, everyone was so attentive. New cutlery was delivered at the right times, the table was cleaned every so often, which was a nice touch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was lovely: the high ceilings with skylights added beautiful natural lighting, it felt open and inviting. The design is sleek, clean and warm, thanks to the wood accents throughout.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Like I said, I will be coming back! It was also reasonably priced for such great quality food.

Two great dishes - duck l'orange and sea bream. That lobster bisque.

One of the best meals I've had in a long time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Classic French-style dining in a bright, modern restaurant setting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was warm and welcoming. Our server was new but she had some good recommendations. Food was excellent. We tried each of the canapes and every one was a winner - particular fan of the Mackerel Mousse. Sea bream - A friend had recommended the dish and lived up to the hype. A fillet of sea bream came nestled in lobster bisque, with potatoes and fennel. The lobster bisque was rich and flavourful. It really complemented the fish, which was cooked to perfection with a wonderfully crispy skin. Canard a l'orange - came with carrots and pistachios. Incredible. Beautifully done tender duck in a bigarade/orange sauce. So so good. You will not regret it. Both main were exceptional standout dishes. Lick your plate clean level. Not usually a dessert kind of guy but the food was so good here we wanted to keep going. Had the creme brulée and the Paris brest (a ring of flaky choux pastry with a praline cream in the middle. Both were good. Though if I had to narrow it down to one it would be the Paris brest for novelty and flavour. I would go back just for another taste of that bisque alone.

Exceptional cuisine and service .. as first time travelers to Montreal we relied heavily on recommendations on Yelp .. DID NOT DISAPPOINT! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were one the first parties to be seated .. had a wonderful table overlooking the garden and outside seating area ..[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] we throughly explored the menu but as first time guests decided on the Pre Fixe Menu .. it was wonderful .. the pace of the meal was prompt but not over bearing .. we enjoyed our meal over a two hour period - never felt rushed but attentive .. [[HIGHLIGHT]]we dined on a Monday and as we left the restaurant quickly filled with several large groups of 15-20[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Beef tartare
    Kaitlin M.

I sat at the bar for lunch. It exceeded my expectations. The service was friendly and helpful. Everyone seemed to be a team player, helping each other out. The beef tartare was excellent (we have gotten it at almost every place we've dined at in Montreal) & the three course lunch menu was a great value & divine. I opted for the soup, which was a cream of potato soup. One of the best soups I've ever eaten. Followed it up with the squash and fried sage risotto. So creamy and unique with a harissa oil (I believe?). Either way, this place was dreamy and delicious and I would highly recommend.

This was my favorite meal out of our whole trip in Montreal! If you're looking for French food, this is the place to go. The staff are all very friendly and great! We started with some small bites (Canapés) of the Mackerel Mousse, Tartelette, Beef carpaccio, and the Florentine gougere. I would skip these as I feel like they are very small items and would rather eat other items on their menu. If you've never had any of these, it's worth a try as they're good, but are the size of one bite. For entrees, we ordered the Arctic char a la Grenobloise, Cavatelli, side order of Brussel sprouts, side order of mushrooms, and a side order of gnocchi. We also ordered two sweet breads because we enjoyed the first one so much we wanted another one! The sweetbread is their specialty and it's a must have! The meat was very tender and soft. We loved the mix of sweet and savory with the sweet bread on top. For the entrees, we loved the Arctic char and it was very delicate and flavorful. It's a dish meant to be shared and has a good mix of the sauce, fish, and some greens on top. The Cavatelli was our least favorite as we felt the meat was a little dry. The side orders were all very delicious, especially the gnocchi which is fried. You can't go wrong with fried food. For dessert, we ordered the Maple crème brûlée, Paris Brest, and Crêpes flambées. I would skip the crepes, but the other two desserts were great to top off our dinner. Great to share if you're full but get a little sweet bite in. This restaurant is such a great place for a nice dinner with your family where it's not too loud, the ambience is great, and the staff are all very nice on top of their delicious food! We had such a great time and perfect last meal of our trip.

Nice, simple stew that was as refreshing as it was tasty

If you're looking for a quaint French bar/restaurant without a long wait, Place Carmin is the place to go! We went here after seeing a Cirque du Soleil show in the heart of Montreal and were seated quickly at the bar. The bartenders/servers were amazingly thorough, breaking down the menu to accommodate for my friend's dairy allergy, and even making a customized mock tail that tasted great! We were super impressed with the service. The menu has a good number of seafood entrees and appetizers that were unique without being overwhelming. If you've had French food, you know that it's pretty rich, and the cuisine here is no exception - it satisfied cravings without making us so full we couldn't make it back to our Airbnb afterwards. The ambiance was minimalist and appealing, and captured the charm of Montreal while making us feel right at home. Would definitely come back!

The octopus salad was much better; the octopus was sliced and arranged on top of a ratatouille which provided a good complement of flavors and textures. For my main I got the OG braised beef. The beef was almost pot-roast style, seasoned with maple and aged balsamic sauce and paired with truffled celery root purée. This was delicious - the beef was super tender, and the sauce provided great flavor. The puree was an awesome side - the entire trip was super comforting and familiar while also being new and interesting. We decided to get two desserts - the madeleines and the olive oil cake. The former were baked fresh and came with a side of chocolate pudding and salted caramel, while the latter came with whipped cream and coached pears. Both were good, but I preferred the madeleines; the warm sponge paired with the chocolate and caramel was a great finisher to the meal. Service was great - everyone from the host to the bartender to our waiter made us feel welcome; they definitely elevated the experience. Overall, I had a great time at Barroco; the food, vibes, and service were all on point. I would definitely consider returning the next time I'm in Montreal.
