Had a really great experience with Marcus at Charlotte Barber and Beard. I came in with longer hair and a beard I'd been growing out without much structure, and he knew exactly how to handle it. He kept the length on both, which was important to me, but added the right amount of shape and control so everything looks intentional now instead of just grown out. What stood out most was how well he blended the haircut into the beard. The sides look cleaner without being too tight, and the beard has a defined shape without looking overdone or overly sharp. He also took the time to explain what he was doing and how to maintain it, which I really appreciated. Overall, it felt like a very thoughtful and skilled approach rather than just a quick cut. Do not try booking directly with Marcus through this app. I also would not suggest beard and barber (same location) as things are pretty disorganized. When you make an apt w him you have to prepay with a credit card through a plug in called squire. This is problematic. First off because there is a 10% off coupon that gives you no coupon code to add when you pay so basically you can't use it. Second because sometime he does not get the message. IE today I booked a same day apt around noon for 3pm. It accepted and put a hold on my card. I showed up at 3pm...3:10...3:15 no Marcus. I asked his coworkers and they said sometimes he's late. Long story short I called him and he didn't get the notification that I booked. No apology no offer to reschedule with another barber just "can you wait until 5?" No. Even tried unsuccessfully to get in with another barber but they had apts. It was overall not a good experience. Marcus might be the BEST barber in town but maybe just needs someone to help with the booking process and combine his bookings with the overall business. read more

First time I ever paid for a haircut before I got it but I must say it was worth it and especially on a day when they were closed but were still accepting appointments here and there. No muss, no fuss. Pay and show up and leave the rest to Marcus who took his time, was professional and in my opinion did a great job. Where do I start... Marcus, you are a GENIUS with the clippers! So to start, Charlotte Barber and Beard is the name of the shop. It's small, quaint, and has a very upscale, modern, and I guess you could say.. millennial feel? It's a good thing, I swear. I walked in at around 2:55pm and Marcus was just finishing up with a client. Looking at his cut, I could tell that I was going to be in for a treat. I got a full haircut with shampoo and beard trimming. It was like Marcus was inside of my head and knew exactly what I wanted. A very high fade with nothing really taken off of the top. My cut is absolutely perfect. Marcus is a perfectionist who really takes his time and cares about his clients. I have been to MANY shops in Charlotte and nothing comes even relatively close to this shop. They sell a beard oil that I almost bought but I didn't have enough cash. Keep in mind that this place is cash only, but just stop by Harris Teeter or the Wells Fargo ATM about a block away. My cut and shampoo came to $35 and the quality is SUPERB. I can't rave enough about my haircut. The best one I've had yet. Marcus, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I will definitely be back in a few weeks. read more

Marcus is easily the best barber in the Charlotte area. I've been everywhere.. from expensive salons down to Paul Mitchell and Aveda advanced students, and he's better than everyone.. I have been searching for a quality barber in Charlotte for 3 months. Saw the other reviews on Marcus and decided to give him a call. He had an immediate opening and said he could see me. BINGO! Marcus proved to be very professional, skilled, took time to make my haircut perfect, trimmed my beard and gave me a straight razor shave complete with hot lather. AMAZING! I made an appointment with Mr Clark on 12/28 for 12/29 at 4p. I show up a few minutes before 4p and Mr Clark is no where to be found. I was told by the other barbers that he had left for the day and that I should try to call him. I tried calling him and got no response. I would have rather he told me he was unable to schedule my appointment than take my appointment and then not show. This has been a major inconvenience to me as a left work early to make this appointment and I find this type of behavior very unprofessional. This review is aimed specifically for the skills of the barber, Marcus Clark, and does not involve his character. There was no argument or scene at the shop that emotionally affects this rating. Paid fully plus tip and was a socially smooth visit. Short review: Asian haircut. Barber: nice guy, terrible cutting skills. Did not cut what I wanted even with provided pictures and clear details. Took two visits due to numerous errors. $25 that didn't even include str8 rzr neck shave. Avoid barber. Marcus was nice, but his skills with the razor are poor. I have very dense Asian hair and only very experienced barbers know how to manage this type of hair. Marcus' card reads he has 20 years of experience so I was expecting master class for the price of $25. I am a very specific customer that comes ready with pictures of haircuts that were done on me. I know the proper lengths of guards I want and the proper terminology to make the cut description clear. What I wanted and generally get is a disconnected undercut, faded tightly on the sides, natural part, with convex and concave layering on the top. He had way more information on what needed to be done than an average customer...and guess what? Marcus cut it the way HE wanted, which did not reflect anything I showed or told him. He made errors on my cut that he was nice enough to correct, but the cut was still extensively flawed. These are the errors I received. On the first visit: -Entire side of my head was clearly faded longer than the opposing side. Confirmed by three other people. -One side of my head had jagged transition into the side part. -I clearly asked for 0.5 inch off the top and to keep it very long. He took off about 2.5 inches. Yep, I measured before and after. -Did not account for the shape of my head and my hair type. Faded straight into my hair without the proper tapering motions as you go up the temple and the towards the crown. Left me with an awkward shape and zero definition. -No straight razor neck shave Second visit (for the fix) -Tried to fix the side that was improperly faded. Didn't get it right the first time. Had to do it one more time. -Took off another 0.5 inches on the top towards the crown. Left me with a really awkward transition. Hair comes back even from a bad cut. The customer does not. read more

Going to Marcus for round 2 this week, and thought I would leave a review for others who may be new to town like I was a few months back. I waited 4 months before getting a haircut when I moved here. As I met people and inquired who to go too, I of course got lots of different recommendations. Marcus, however, kept popping up and I decided to give it a try when some friends at Green Light Tattoo (another fine establishment) recommended him. I generally do a traditional undercut with enough hair on top I can pull it back in a bun when I lift. Marcus not only cut the split ends off (creating a much cleaner bun as well as making my hair easier to style in general when not pulling it back) but the fade he gave me was top notch. I've been wearing an undercut for 2 years now and my wife complained that no one in Alabama (where I'm from) could properly fade my hair. Well, that complaint has ceased thanks to Marcus. Another aspect of Marcus' style that is top notch is the way my hair has grown since my last visit a month ago. Where he faded my hair, it still looks good instead of being a giant puffy mess with previous haircuts while in Alabama. Lastly, the straight razor shave to the neck was incredible. All in all, it was the cleanest cut I've ever gotten in my life (yeah that good). So much so that when I told my wife I was going back to him this week, she said, "Marcus, he'll make you look so fresh and so clean, clean." I'll be checking back in after my cut this week.
