The initial eye exam felt like an assembly line where I was passed from one person to the next, then ended with a salesman-type (they called him a counselor) who was basically a closer. I felt like I was buying a car! That said, everyone was very pleasant and they worked around my schedule to get my surgery done before I left the country. The surgery itself was super fast and painless (albeit a bit unnerving psychologically, but that part only lasted a few seconds). I got the SMILE surgery, a slightly less invasive technique than Lasik. There was a tiny bit of irritation after the numbness wore off, but the next morning I was fine, and within a few days my vision was quite clear. I only got one eye done, so one eye is near sighted and the other is now far sighted, and my brain stitches the images together so I feel like I have 20/20 vision. It's incredible! I need prescription readers now, though, so I can do my up-close stuff without my new far-sighted eye feeling wonky. It was expensive but overall I'm happy with the results. Would recommend. Bonus: As the surgeon got ready to perform the minute-long operation, he put on an 80s station and Sade's song Smooth Operator came on. I asked if he puts this song on each time he operates, but he said it was a coincidence.

Although the surgery was executed in a very professional manner. The post-op literature clearly said "notify the Dr if you experience any vision changes ". I have post-op double vision so I scheduled a follow up appointment and was told by Dr. Char that I should have followed up with my original Dr. I pointed out his instructions and he conceded I did the right thing. He explained my double vision and said he may have to implant a graph, I pointed out that he had told me that he had already implanted a graph. He didn't seem to remember me or my procedure. Having said all this I wouldn't hesitate to use him again. He is apparently held in high regard by his peers. When referred to him by my original ophthalmologist he said Dr. Char literally wrote the book on my situation. As I said I would use him again.

I have never seen as well with contact lenses as I have with her CL prescription and she was very accommodating with my preference for a prescription for inexpensive daily wear 30-day lenses vs more costly daily disposable ones. I really appreciated that. I also love the office's interior design with LEGO models that I'm sure her pediatric patients love and the nice design scientific optical medicine mathematical formula wallpaper. I didn't order eyeglasses from SSS so I am not sure how that service works, but she definitely had a great selection of frames. Overall, SSS has been my favorite optometrist in San Francisco and I will definitely return for an updated prescription. SSS definitely gets a well-deserved 5-stars from me!
