Margaret's was the spot to try in Marfa--and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Not a ton of dining options in town, so expectations were high, and this place delivered. The space itself is super cute with a warm, inviting atmosphere, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. You can tell right away it's a place people genuinely enjoy working at. They open at 5 and don't take reservations, so be prepared--the line was already stacked when doors opened. We were able to snag seats at the bar, which ended up being perfect. We started with the deviled eggs, which are soaked in beet juice and have this subtle curry kick--such a unique twist and definitely worth ordering. Next was the roasted cauliflower, and wow... perfectly charred with a hot honey drizzle that brought everything together. Easily one of those dishes you keep thinking about after. For the entrée, I had the salmon with a curry slaw, and it was exceptional. Everything felt thoughtfully put together and full of flavor without being overcomplicated. Overall, such a great experience. If you're in Marfa, this place is 100% worth checking out. Would go back in a heartbeat. read more

We picked up key lime pie and a berry cake for dessert - we got two of each. These came highly recommended!! Unfortunately, the homemade whipped cream was awful. Not sweet at all and tastes burnt. Would have like to try the food here. Unfortunately our waitress was so rude we decided to leave and eat somewhere else. As soon as we walked in her attitude made the entire group uncomfortable. People who came in after us were being served while our waitress disappeared. While waiting we decided maybe we should just leave, as we started getting up she showed up to sarcastically say bye and wave at us. Not sure what the reasoning for all this was. Husband and I came for dinner on Saturday night about 45min before closing. Normally there's a line for this place, but we were able to get a spot for two at the bar walking in. Lights are low, but the design gives the restaurant a homey vibe. I love the tie-dye napkins! Service is quick and excellent. You can ask for your food all at once or as soon as it's ready. The food is absolutely delicious! We shared and appetizer, main dish and side dish which was enough for both of us. The only issue was the burrata toast. Unfortunately ours was very burnt on the bottom. Overall, I was come back for a decent meal in Marfa. read more

Stayed in town and decided to eat dinner at Margaret's. This is the place to go when in town. I was greeted when I stepped in the door. Decided to sit at their counter. The gals behind the bar were very friendly, answered all my questions and gave their recommendations. They have sardines with sliced pepperincini's with a swirl of a pepper infused oil swirl. They were sooooo good. They have a ricotta toast which a lot of people ordered. I didn't because I didn't want to fill up on bread. I was between the bolognese and prime rib I was feeling meat so I went with the steak. It was incredibly flavorful and a bit on the fatty side but I worked it till it was gone. You have to come early when they open or you may be waiting. The counter is large. Also, they do book for private parties and put a note on the door. Highly recommend and good luck. read more

THE BIG: Right on the main strip, you can't miss the neon green lit sign and the green door right in front. Nice cozy spot inside that serves a wide array of wines. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here after a long hiking day at Big Bend and in search of some good food. Marfa is still a tiny town and food selection is limited. We ordered the spaghetti bolognese, the cheese toast, and the yams. All came out pretty quickly and they tasted good, but it seemed like something I could have easily made at home. Regardless the ambiance and vibes made it for a nice dining experience out. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done for 3 dishes was around $45. This is the place you want in your neighborhood. The West Texas posh hipster vibe is thick here, but the food is damn delicious. And the service was on point both times we visited here. There are some unusual selections here that you can't go wrong with. This is like upscale diner food. And the portions are huge. You can see all we ate on my pics - what stood out to me were the Tuna Melt and the veggie sides. The tuna melt was as packed with tuna salad goodness as two slices of bread could support, and then some. It was full of flavor and not mayo, which was a relief. The roasted cauliflower and grilled carrots sides were superb. If you know of someone who is a finicky veggie eater, these sides would convert them instantly. Other stand outs were the deviled eggs and Eggplant Parmesan. Everything stood out, in fact. You can even get an ice cold Lone Star here. I wish this was closer to where I live. read more

We had the pickled eggs, warm tuna sandwich, and roasted carrots. Wow! It exceeded my expectations! The carrots were my favorite of all, right up until the dessert. The Key Lime pie was so delicious. What a find. As I've mentioned, there are not metropolitan options in small-town Marfa. However, there are some excellent choices and Margaret's should be at the top of your list. I knew it the second I saw the front of the place. Understated but, with attention to design detail. Again, when you walk in the feeling of being on a 1940s film set overtakes you. The combination of design, layout, and lighting is fantastic. I was immediately at ease and couldn't wait to see the offerings. Although there is not a lot of seating, the space feels much larger than it is, without being cavernous. To the right as you enter is a large u shaped counter you can sit at and that's what we did. Again, the design elicits a 1940s roadside diner in a small town. So, I guess they got it right because that's exactly what it is. The preparation of the food while simple is taken to another level. You can literally gaze around the restaurant watching people have a moment with their food. The couple next to me at the counter systematically shared several dishes one at a time as to enjoy each bite. Small menu, and powerful choices. Oh, and did I mention, the prices for what you receive are astonishingly reasonable? You have no choice when in Marfa. You must... Go!! read more

We stopped in at Margaret's on our day trip through Big Bend Ranch and Marfa. It's definitely more of an upscale type place but they seated us even in our hiking gear and were very friendly. Even on a busy night we (4) were seated in 30 minutes. Despite the cold it was a warm and inviting environment. Service was prompt. Food was plated nicely and tasted fresh. We had the bolognese and the steak with a side of cauliflower, finishing with a key lime pie. The interior is striking, modern, and appealing. Seating options include tables lining the wall or the inclusive-feeling bar that wraps around and looks into the open-design kitchen at the back. Service is kind and friendly. Our one gripe was that the menu was somewhat limited. Food offerings trended toward more comfort food of spaghetti and melts. We split the pickled shrimp salad and eggplant parm. Both were hearty portions. We love seafood and weren't partial toward the pickled shrimp, combined with watermelon and the rest of the salad. The standout of the meal was the Key Lime Pie, which was topped with dollop of whipped cream and cherry. The hostess was rude but the rest of the staff was very kind. Mixed signals on kid friendliness of the restaurant. They gave our kids crayons and coloring sheets and even TOY HORSES which was great, but had no cups with lids/straws and no high chairs, so our 1 year old had to sit in our LAPS while we ate. The server stood in close proximity to the table and asked "are you ready to order", several times before we just hastily picked a few items. We ordered the cheese toast, and deviled eggs as starters. The cheese toast was cold and unexpected, the taste was dismal, flavorless. The deviled eggs were very "pickled" and the vinegar flavor outweighed any blend of flavor the eggs had. We decided to not eat a "main", opting to go elsewhere for our main course, without regret. Margaret's is so quaint, with the sweet feel of the screen doors opening into your past, however the menu was a fail. The pickled deviled eggs were very good. The burrata toast with cheese, tomatoes and balsamic was also good. The steak (Bavette) was okay. We were told that it would be cooked medium rare, which is fine, but it came out almost well-done which was kind of surprising. The sweet potato enchiladas were interesting & pretty good; however, the sweet potatoes themselves were cut into relatively large cubes and weren't seasoned so occasionally you bite into a super hot, bland sweet potato. Wish they would advertise when they are closed. We have tried to eat at Margaret's twice lately and yesterday we thought it would be nice to have our anniversary dinner there. We can't make reservations so we just drove half an hour through road construction to get there right at 5 so we could get a seat not at the bar. We pulled up to park right in front of a sign reading "closed for a private event" just like the last time. Oh well, we went to Jett's Grill and found they had a redo and the food was great! Best steak I've had in 10 years and a wonderful Kale salad which seems to be difficult to find in restaurants these days. So our anniversary evening out was a success anyway. Staff was coming and going and serving others, and talking to each other, but I was totally ignored, so I left. We liked that it is first come first serve for seating. The only thing I would change is adding a cocktail menu. We sat at the bar and the ambiance was chill and comfortable, it was really enjoyable! The food was super good and the deviled eggs are their specialty for a reason. The bartender recommended the grilled cheese tuna sandwich and it surprisingly exceeded expectations. No need for dessert since the sizing was great. Pricing surprised us for the quality and service. The only reason why we give 4/5 is the lack of drink choices and they were out of the parmesan eggplant so arrive early. No doubt I'll stop by every time I go to Marfa. read more

Ambiance is great. Very clean and crisp. Brandon the owner was our server and he was great with both food and wine suggestions. We shared the wild boar sausage app and it was delicious. Cozy little restaurant in the middle of town. We ordered the roasted carrots (even my dad loved them and he hates carrots), the wild boar sausage (yummmm), and I had the eggplant parm. Everything was just like my Italian grandma (if I had one) would make. They even have real life cowboys in the restaurant, just kidding, it was just silly people from Austin or California, dressed in ponchos and custom made cowboy hats that they paid thousands of dollars for, acting like they were from the Wild West. Was a little disappointed that the rainbow trout option I'd see via Yelp was no longer available. Had the salmon that came with an arugula salad that seemed to have jalapeños in it (of which I was not aware). Service was attentive in the beginning but we struggled to get our waitress' attention for the check. Got the tangy chocolate tart to go, which was delicious. This is NOT a diner and the Tuna Melt is spectacular. Not just good, not just impressive, but slap me on the ass and call me buttermilk, good. The wine selection is worldly and completely embraces that 87.532% of product of Napa is something they give terrorists, in an attempt to get them to break and give up their comrades in arms. French, Italian, Spanish...all the hits are here. All the good stuff and hardly a CrappaNapa in sight. Ok...yeah, they've got some Cali wines, but there is such a fantastic selection of the rest of the world, that you hardly notice. The ambiance is impeccable: dim lighting with neon accents, low music, minimalistic furniture, and friendly staff. We were seated immediately, but shortly after 8 pm it got quite crowded and there was a wait. Here's why it's so abuzz: Their drinks selection was quite delightful. Despite not serving cocktails, they have unusual drinks like the Ghia lime & salt (tastes like an aperol spritz - without the alcohol). Each and every food item was delicious. We started with the Wild Boar Sausage and Corn on the cob. The real stars of the meal were the Spaghetti Bolognese and the Rainbow Trout. Both were garnished to perfection and had utterly homemade tastes to them. The Key lime pie was a little on the south side for me. Best part of the entire experience: We didn't feel rushed at all throughout our meal despite there being a line of people out the door. Definitely planning on coming back. read more
