Jett is a character in the movie Giant, which was filmed in the Marfa area, and the stars stayed at the Hotel Paisano where the restaurant is located. If you have never heard of the movie, that is a lot of their problem. The hotel and restaurant are resting on their laurels from a movie from the 1950s. If you took a date to see Giant when it first came out, you probably need food you can gum. We were here two years ago and had a good experience so we came back and were sorely disappointed. Service was appallingly slow because there was one waitress (who was great) for the entire restaurant and patio. There was one bartender. Very short-staffed. We had drinks and chips and salsa on the patio before moving inside for dinner. Entrees on the menu were chicken and veggie burgers (no beef?) and chicken was out. The other entrees were the pistachio-crusted steak (basically fancy chicken fried steak) and a ribeye. They were out of the pistachio-crusted steak. So, it was a veggie burger or a ribeye. No chicken dishes, no fish, no pasta. A frozen veggie burger or a $45 ribeye. We started with a a charcuterie board which was tasty but not very generous. The ribeyes were served on mashed potatoes and very good, but there was no vegetable, no bread - just steak and potatoes. I don't mind the price of the steak but part of that price is service and if there is one server for an entire restaurant and the patio, the service is not going to be that good, and it wasn't. Drinks were not refilled, dessert wasn't offered (they might have been out!), so it was eat and run. So, staffing issues, inventory management issues and a restaurant that had a number of customers to serve so they should do better. Much better. read more

Paired with the historic Hotel Paisano, Jett's doesn't quite rise to the occasion. Striving for the refined rustic setting of the hotel, the restaurant's ambience feels more dated than decorative. The staff is friendly, but twice during our dinner the host interrupted our group's conversation with incidental small talk. The host also took photos of our table for the "night manager to see how busy we are". The host did this without asking for permission. Our server was more engaged than intrusive, friendly and helpful. The kitchen and bar were on the slow side, and unfortunately the food/drinks were not exceptional enough to offset the delays. Though remote, Marfa has an eclectic food scene, and there's better options that Jett's. read more

Very good food, great service, nice outdoor patio. We came to the Paisano Hotel with a large tour group, all of whom descended on Jett's Grill at the same time. The staff were a bit overwhelmed but they stayed calm and friendly. We were a party of two and were seated immediately at an outdoor table next to the fountain. It's a very nice patio that was nicely lit by the hotel lights as it got darker. Our waitress was very friendly and greeted us when she came to our table. My wife ordered the pecan crusted salmon, which she said was very good. It was a large portion of nicely-cooked salmon. I ordered two items from the appetizer menu - bacon wrapped quail and kale beet salad. Both were very large portions, plenty for a meal or maybe even 2 people. There were about 6 pieces of quail and a moderately spicy aioli. It was very good. The kale beet salad was also delicious. We also had a piece of chocolate mousse cake, that was delicious. Nice and chocolatey but not overly sweet or rich. Even though the restaurant was crowded, our service was great. Our waitress was always friendly, checked on us often enough, and took the time to chat briefly without seeming harried. The food came out quickly and was hot and fresh. Our total check was about $75 plus tip. Not inexpensive but worth it for the food, service and ambience. read more

We got in Marfa late and it was great to eat at our hotel. The service was lovely and the food fine. Had a wedge salad and pork chop with mesquite and raspberries. The mesquite overwhelmed the sweet berry taste. I recommend sharing if you aren't a big eater. The wedge was half a head of iceberg and the chop was a pound. It came with 12 roasted baby potatoes and grilled carrots. Loved everything but the chop. Too heavy and hot. read more

We were staying at the Hotel Paisano in Marfa, where Jett's Grill is. I ordered a Tequila Sunrise to drink, Pistachio Fried Steak for my dinner and split a piece of Cheesecake for dessert. Everything was delicious. The Pistachio Fried Steak was tender and seemed to be the favorite as I saw several other patrons order it. The mash potatoes were delicious as was the broccoli. We made reservations because we were spending the night at this iconic hotel (Paisano) and the menu looked amazing. We should have known when we were the only two people in the place that something was up. We ordered the Bacon Wrapped Quail for a starter and it was okay. While we were still eating it the server brought out our entree. I chock this up to age and improper training. So we set those aside and did into our entrees. I ordered the pistachio crusted fried steak with jalapeño gravy and mashed potatoes. Sounds good doesn't it. It was the worst thing I have ever tasted in my life. It was nothing but gristle covered in pistachio crust. I couldn't eat it. My husband ordered the prime rib, it was mostly fat. When our server asked how it was I told her. She said she'd talk to the manager. They did take mine off the bill, but not once did anyone come talk to us to apologize. The server told us that they are under going new management and do not have a chef only a cook. Do better! I blame this one on myself. I should have read the reviews. It looks like this has been an ongoing problem. I would hate to see an iconic establishment be run under because of the restaurant. Sad, just sad! HORRIBLE!! We made reservations for 5:45pm. Got there and they stated they had to arrange for a large party before us. Not a problem- we waited. It's Spring Break. Got sat and put in our order that included appetizers. Bread and butter were brought out with no butter knives or napkins. Once they brought out the silverware - bread was cold. Again, looked past it. Our dinner entrees were brought out and then- like 15 min later, we told our waitress we would not be wanting our humus plate (Appetizer). She said she would "ask her manager if the plate could be taken off our bill." Then she came back, brought it and said it would be comped. Then, a bus boy came- as we were eating the humus plate (midway through) comes and takes it from our hands! LITERALLY!! they can review the cameras! IT WAS SO RUDE and embarrassing! Will never eat or stay here EVER! We talked to Joel Mendoza Kitchen manager who said since we weren't going to pay for it - they were going to take it from us!! We told him it was "COMP'd" and he refused to leave it on the table! We asked to speak to The manager and he said there was No GM- Spring Break and no GM!! What a safety hazard- who's in charge? Then a woman came out named ATIANA who only repeated what he said- since we weren't going to pay for it they were going to take it!! BUT- it's because they brought it out after our MAIN COURSES and THEY told us they were going to comp it!! Horrible, unorganized, embarrassing establishment! Food: I had the ribeye with Parmesan fries and my table mate had the pistachio chicken. Ribeye was tasty enough as where the fries, I didn't feel the justification for the price was there for the ribeye. Service: seemed subpar for the equivalently priced meal. Example an item was not in-stock but it was still on my receipt. Was removed in the end, but I felt that the way that the business sells itself would reflect in not missing things like that. Cocktails very well done on a dusty west Texas evening followed by dinner that hit on every cylinder. I had the pistachio chicken fried steak with jalapeño gravy that was hands down the best CFS I've ever had. Massive plate. Couldn't finish it. The other plates delivered were polished off. I even enjoyed the Brussels sprouts app, and I normally can't handle those beastly bulbs of bilious barf. Ambience was great... steeped in Giant History as it is. Great waitstaff. After a very, very long day on the road, Jett's was convenient in the Hotel El Paisano where we're staying. There were limited table choices, so we were seated in the middle of the restaurant near the kitchen and wait station. Some smokey fumes kept wafting from the kitchen. While it smelled pretty good, it sent me into some coughing fits. The wait station was off-putting at first but it was slow enough in the restaurant that it was fine. The service was acceptable given we were in Marfa, Texas, where restaurant service is not a competitive sport as it is in Dallas. My husband ordered the pot roast. It was Sunday night after all. It was savory served with creamed potatoes and carrots that had clearly been cooked in the pot with the meat. Yum. I chose the kale and roasted beet salad with goat cheese, pecans, and mandarin tossed in a light vinaigrette. It was huge, fresh, and just right for me. The wine list was short for summer but it was easy to find something tasty. And more cheesecake - crème brûlée cheesecake- complete with a sugar crust on top. Mmm. All in all, it was an enjoyable meal other than the kitchen maybe needing to upgrade the vent hood. read more

We enjoyed the food at Jett's Grill during our stay at the Paisano Hotel, but the service was terrible. It was so bad we decided to go to the restaurant at the nearby Hotel Saint George the second night. I had the Giant Burger and it was good but nothing special. I liked the homestyle fries because they were a different shape than normal fries making them a little more potato-ey, kind of like a steak fry. My wife had the Pistachio Fried Steak with jalapeno gravy. We couldn't really detect any pistachio flavor in the breading. The jalapeno gravy stole the show on this dish. I would recommend it and it seems to be their specialty. On to the service. Our server approached our table with not smile and a very flat greeting. In fact, he didn't greet us but rather just asked what we wanted to drink. We ordered drinks and an appetizer but the appetizer never arrived. When he brought our entrees we asked about the appetizer and he said he had forgotten about it - no apology, didn't ask if we still wanted it, just walked away. He never stopped by our table again until well after we had finished eating even though our drinks were empty and we were wanting to order dessert in advance. After waiting 10-15 minutes and watching our waiter walk through the dining room many times without glancing at our table, we decided to ask another server if we could get our check or if she would be nice enough to tell our server to bring it. He finally brought the check but when he gave us the receipt we noticed he charged the another tables bill to my credit card. We had to flag him down and point it out to him and when he came back with the correct receipt he put it down on the table and said here is the correct receipt along with a receipt showing the voided transaction - no apology whatsoever. Coincidentally, the same thing happened at a different restaurant several days later and the manager came by our table to apologize and explain that we will see the wrong charge on our credit card statement but that it would go away within 3-5 business days, etc. THAT is how you are supposed to handle that kind of mistake, not the way our server did. Maybe he was just having a bad night or didn't enjoy his job, but we were polite the whole time even through his mistakes and some basic common courtesy would have gone a very long way. read more

Warning: If Kiarra is your server, make sure you check your bank statement against the receipt. My $115 charge after tip turned into a $118 charge on my card. I filled out both receipts, took a picture of them together, and left them on the table. Yes, it's only three dollars, but changing the tip amount is immoral and wrong. read more

Jett's grill is located inside Hotel Paisano. We made reservations here as were seated a little earlier than our expected time which was great. It was not too busy, tables were far enough from each other, and staff wore masks. The food was OK - I did not think that it was well seasoned. I love chicken & steak fried steak normally but I felt this dish was not the best I have had. The chicken was fried and not soggy (which was great). The lemonade was not extraordinary. I would have preferred saving my money and opted for a drink outside. My favorite was the sweet potato fries! Great portion. Overall, good place for a stop in Marfa if you don't mind the price and are looking into fancier dining. Other than that, I don't think you will miss much if this is not on your to-go list! read more

My girlfriend and I Came to eat here before we went to see the Marfa lights. I don't recommend this place at all. The service was absolutely terrible except our server CJ who was very sweet. We had walked in and everyone was mean mugging my girlfriend because she's lights skin. What everyone says about marfa people is very true. No one greeted us or even said where to go to be seated by the host. None of the servers were friendly and just kept giving us dirty looks. No host to be found, The manager ended up seating us and was also being pretty rude. we had ordered a pasta which came out cold and the salmon was not bad. Definitely do not recommend to eat here because the service was ultimately horrible the atmosphere was absolutely terrible. And people of Marfa are racist read more

My family and I had a wonderful dining experience tonight at Jett's Grill. Before dining, we ordered some drinks from the bar and the cocktails were made perfectly! As appetizers we shared bacon-wrapped quail and the kale & beet salad. They were both delicious! For entrees, we had the pistachio crusted fried steak, pot roast and smoked chicken. Any one of these items alone probably could have fed all three of us! The portions were hearty and the food was delicious! We were snacking on leftovers later in the night. My personal favorite was the fried steak....very Texas. Also, we had the cookies and cream for dessert later in the night before going to bed. This is a cookie baked in a skillet and topped with ice cream. This was to die for! Lastly, Bea who is the restaurant manager went out of her way to make sure our experience was wonderful and even brought us our cookies and cream despite the restaurant being closed. Years ago we would always go to Jett's bar for their fried artichoke hearts, which they don't do anymore sadly, so when we were celebrating our 42 year anniversary, and upon arrival at Margaret's and finding it closed for a private party (again), we stopped in at Jett's Grill to see their menu. Surprise! Jett's seems to have gone through a change and a good one too. Their menu was outstanding in my opinion. I had a kale salad which was absolutely mouth watering and a steak that was tender and done to perfection. It was the best steak I've had in West Texas so far, beating out The Gage in my opinion. It's difficult to get a steak red and juicy in the middle, but they did it at Jett's. Our waiter, Derek, was fun, attentive and answered so many of my questions about the food and wine. The restaurant was almost completely full but they have added tables where those comfy chairs were near the entrance and moved the comfy chairs to the back room - just in case you are looking for a good place for just a drink. Terrible service. Rude server. Go to Margaret's. We were staying at the Paisano Hotel, so thought we would give the hotel restaurant a try. Big mistake. Started off with the uppity host telling us we should have had a reservation even though the place was only about 1/3 full. We let it go and he seated us immediately (without a reservation!). Waited a while for our server. Finally got a drink. Ordered the Brie appetizer which was not Brie by any stretch of the imagination. Tasted like butter and would have been great on toast. We should have sent it back but were still trying to be nice at that point. Main course was just okay and we could not get waited on at all after the entrée plates were delivered. We apparently became invisible at that point. Wanted more wine and would have ordered dessert, but no one would wait on us. Finally waved and waved enough that the server noticed our existence and asked for our check. Waited and waited some more. Finally had to go to the bar and get the bartender to cash us out. Marfa has so many cool new spots with excellent food and cocktails that the hotel bars seem to be suffering. This place has so much potential with a gorgeous patio overlooking a courtyard fountain. The furniture is so basic and uncomfortable to sit on for more than 20 minutes. The inside is really plain (which is surprising because the lobby is beautiful). There is a sign saying they're not allowing inside dining but our reservation was for the inside. The staff was really unsure - they said the rules change literally each day and they can't keep up. They directed us to speak to someone at the front desk. Here's where it gets interesting. The lady at the front desk is so focused on telling us repeatedly that they're so popular that we must have a reservation to dine here but not even in a snobbish way - a rather rude and mean way. Even after I told her I had one already! She said - there is no chance you can dine at our establishment without reservations. Okayyy. After discussing with my husband, we decided to cancel our reservation. No one picked up the phone all afternoon/evening. We were in the area so we stopped by the front desk - we felt it courtesy to be responsible and make an effort to cancel these "million dollar reservations" - only to be told by another person rudely that the front desk has nothing to do with the restaurant and we're stupid to think it would. Finally, we get a voicemail an hour after our reservation time with some kid saying - well I guess you're not showing up for your reservation then. Also, they're advertising a happy hour on Instagram but the establishment said they're not actually doing so. read more

In Marfa your options for food are limited but overall great good can be found around town. But you must stop here and try the Pistachio Fried Steak! It is huge so don't get an appetizer. The steak is huge with crispy breading. The gravy is creamy, spicy, and the pistachios added a nice earthy flavor. The mashed potatoes were also delicious. I went here with a friend that visits Marfa often and he recommended this dish and it did not disappoint. read more

Jett's is the restaurant/bar inside the Hotel Paisano. First of all, the hotel, dining room & bar are gorgeous in an elegant, old fashioned way. The cast of "Giant" stayed here during filming & the hotel has maintained that old Texas money ambiance. The theme carries over to the restaurant (named after a character in "Giant") in the spirit of the menu. The pistachio crusted chicken fried steak was quite good. The accompanying vegetables were rather bland. My old fashioned was excellent, although that particular bartender was not big on Southern hospitality. I had better luck the next night, with Ryder tending bar. He was friendly & attentive. I tried the Giant burger (which certainly lives up to its name) and Parmesan fries. They were good, not great. The desserts I tried were delicious and I believe they're made in house. Jett's is quite good, but not great. Considering the prices, nothing bland should be served in that dining room. Next time I go to Marfa, I would be happy to stay at the hotel Paisano. But I might dine at Hotel St. George. read more
