I've come here a couple times to see exhibits and to early vote which is very easy to do here. They offer many special events here with plenty of parking and easy access. We live only a few miles from the Trickster Cultural Center and have never been able to go. We've…read moretried to go many times over the years but never looked at their hours of operation. We finally were able to go in on 2/26/22. And, the wait was worth it. We were the only people who were not volunteers or employees that day - we had the museum to ourselves. The building was much larger than it appears outside. You enter into the front room, which is a combination of artifacts, art, jewelry, and a gift shop. There is a room open on the north side which was, for the most part empty. This is their special exhibit room. There were some remaining items from a prior exhibit, which were very interesting. There is also a room upstairs with various items. The most interesting were the quilts and a Native American dress exhibit. Most of the museum is built to honor Native American veterans. This whole theme was fascinating. I fancy myself as an American history buff. Frankly, everything was new to me except for a display case explaining the "Code Talkers." (If you aren't sure about the code talkers - check Wikipedia or see the movie. This was fantastic. There is no entrance fee so you can just enter, but there is a place to leave donations. When you do go, make sure to donate what you can. Much of their funding relies on this.

I was delighted to see that a bookstore had opened up in my hometown. Since I was on vacation and…read moreneeded to get some more reading material, I bopped in to browse. Like a number of used booksellers, Jen Fisher repurposed an older building for her business, in this case an old office suite. The selection is pretty decent. She doesn't carry the volume of a Half Price Books, of course, but I found plenty of books that I would be willing to read and a number that I was willing to buy. (Well, had I the room in my carry on. I had to limit myself to three paperbacks.) I did my serious browsing in the science fiction section. It contained a nice variety, with a number of works by more classic authors. Jen Fisher also carries a selection of handcrafted notecards--a temptation I resisted with a tinge of regret.

I visited during stationery store day and I am happy I went here. They had tons of the popular and trendy stationery items and also some things for booktok fans. Definitely had Fourth Wing stuff too. I really enjoyed seeing Chicago themed items. I got some Hot Dang Press iron-on transfers. I can wait to add them to my traveler's journal. They also have this super cute trinket making station. you get a bigger than a regular alltoid tin and put whatever kind of trinkets and set it up however you want. Very customizable and the first I've seen of it! Definitely worth the visit. The owner was so nice!

You'll find some cards (there were some pretty funny ones here), notepads and paper, pens, and so on. They had a cool watercolor book by a creator who has a QR code for a free art class on the back, which I almost bought but taking up a painting hobby is just not something I have time to pursue right now. In addition to the paper goods, they have some textile stuff too. Wallets, sunglasses sleeves, tablet holders, cord keepers; you'll find that and more here. In addition to a few there things I bought a few of the cord keepers because finding loose cords around like snakes laying everywhere is annoying. The employee (proprietor?) was friendly. She was sitting at the front of the store at a typewriter when we came in, maybe composing her novel? A blast from the past for sure but old typewriters are works of art.

It gives business a bigger footprint and more space to serve customers. Costumers get not opportunities to eat outside and enjoy the summer weather. There are concerts in the park on Thursday nights. Some of my favorite restaurants include Armand's Pizzeria and Big Shot Piano Lounge. I highly recommend Arlington Alfresco!

This area is decorated nicely with plenty of lights and some public art. Definitely one of the spots to visit if you live anywhere in the northwest suburbs, and would enjoy a dedicated shopping, dining, and entertainment gathering area that is free of traffic.

So when I bought again, I bought the huge jar (5 lb) their honey, which is a darker hue, and a one pound jar. We went through the 1 pound very easy. But we're about halfway done with the 5 pound. The Elk Grove Historical Museum shares the grounds with the fire station. The museum campus is home to a building where artifacts and rotating exhibits are stored, a historic house, farmland, and a historic barn. When we were there the museum was displaying a special exhibit on Alexian Brothers Hospital. I encourage you to go when you can go on a tour and see all of these magnificent buildings. The history and stories behind the artifacts are worth a trip. I highly recommend visiting the Elk Grove Historical Museum!

It's easy to miss the turn off the 53; turn onto Leicester Road at the stoplight, across from the…read morehospital's statue of Jesus. This is a small local museum; there's an introductory building with the caretaker's office and a few placards about the history of Elk Grove, plus a temporary exhibition space; the farmhouse itself (the caretaker will unlock for you); and a horse barn. The farmhouse is two stories and features a kitchen; a parlor; a downstairs nursery with some medical exhibits; and upstairs, the master bedroom, a child's bedroom, and a room for boarders (currently hosting a vintage sewing machine). The friendly caretaker will let you peer into the stereo-opticon (a 19th century Viewmaster) and was ready to answer questions / open trunks / turn on the lights, etc. The master bedroom included a razor strop and a hatpin keeper with hatpins; there's a period dress in the trunk. The barn features some industrial items (wine press; whetstone/grinder; cream separator) as well as an open buggy and a sleigh. There's also a small kitchen garden and you can peer into the chicken coop if you like. Entertaining small museum without many labels; it will give you a glimpse of 19th century life. I asked plenty of questions and visited about 40 minutes.
