Trickster Cultural Center is filled with beautiful artifacts from our indigenous Native Americans. The exhibits are very informational and the staff is very friendly and helpful answering questions. I've come here a couple times to see exhibits and to early vote which is very easy to do here. They offer many special events here with plenty of parking and easy access. We live only a few miles from the Trickster Cultural Center and have never been able to go. We've tried to go many times over the years but never looked at their hours of operation. We finally were able to go in on 2/26/22. And, the wait was worth it. We were the only people who were not volunteers or employees that day - we had the museum to ourselves. The building was much larger than it appears outside. You enter into the front room, which is a combination of artifacts, art, jewelry, and a gift shop. There is a room open on the north side which was, for the most part empty. This is their special exhibit room. There were some remaining items from a prior exhibit, which were very interesting. There is also a room upstairs with various items. The most interesting were the quilts and a Native American dress exhibit. Most of the museum is built to honor Native American veterans. This whole theme was fascinating. I fancy myself as an American history buff. Frankly, everything was new to me except for a display case explaining the "Code Talkers." (If you aren't sure about the code talkers - check Wikipedia or see the movie. This was fantastic. There is no entrance fee so you can just enter, but there is a place to leave donations. When you do go, make sure to donate what you can. Much of their funding relies on this. read more

A little cultural center with a big impact. Trickster has much to offer this area in cultural, educational and even environmental awareness. Check out the nice little garden path outside and learn about the plants grown here I've been at this building to vote, visit the Schaumburg Farmers' Market, see the Stanley Cup and listen to live music. As others have shared, excellent unique gifts and truly beautiful art here too. I appreciate they celebrate multiple cultures and Veterans of all nations too. Went with hubby to visit Trickster Cultural Center. It was ok. There were only a handful of people present. A lot of the things there were for sale, quite a few seemed way overpriced. They had jewelry, pottery, arts, etc. There is a collection of Native American items, a showcasing of Native American veterans who have served the nation, as well as the Code Talkers who my husband found interesting. Most of the items are on a first floor, there were some pictures and some typical clothing on a second floor which we could not really see well since there appeared to be a meeting. No entrance fee. There is a donation box however. It appears they also have event or different type of activities/outings that they showcase. read more

I'm going to try and finish this review without quoting Cher's 'Half-Breed' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6E98ZRaU1s), but just know that I can sing (we'll use the term 'sing' loosley) not only the single but that entire album... and totally will if given enough sauce. I'll start off with one of the neatest things about this gallery - that on my Tuesday afternoon visit, I was able to walk in and meet three of their artists who were there volunteering and simultaneously working on pieces. It was a cool sneak-peak at what's to come, while also getting to hear a little back-story on their lives and current works on display straight from the source. Basically, a private gallery tour with expert-most docents. The space is pretty large, with multiple gallery areas and a semi-lofted second level that on my visit was showing a projection of a film regarding the subject matter of the second-level's works -- but even so, it's still a little difficult to catch Trickster from street-view. The building is a huge grey-blue color that almost looks like a really modern barn. Across the parking lot there's a large mutli-colored metalwork statue and they've got a small roofed patio area as well as a winding walk-around that goes the partial perimeter of the building. Inside, along with the hung painted and sketched works, there's a giant tee-pee, authentic headdresses, moccasins and jewelry, along with a small library of books, a Native American US servicemen tribute wall, second floor film projection and performance area, photography, statues, carvings and items both historic and modern. There's a small but really cool gift shop that quite honestly is adds to the art already featured, only this stuff you can purchase for a relatively nominal fee and take home. The host different events and artists each month and I've seen everything form Pow-Wows to dancers to rappers and beyond -- just be sure to follow them on Facebook for updates as I don't believe they have an official email list, but don't quote me on that. There's always something different in the works at Trickster, and while it likely isn't a place you'll spend an entire afternoon, it's a great sorta-quick-stop for the curious, interested and those constantly seeking new things, learning opportunities, or those just looking to glimpse a few nudes (there's not many, but I'll just say that's currently some very large racks on display here). I spent about an hour here and saw everything, and I'll probably go back once a week to just see what's poppin. Admission is free, but they do have a suggested donation of $5 for adults and $2 or $3 for kids and seniors, which I feel is more than fair, considering they run on volunteers and it'll probably cost them more than $5 for the cleaning supplies to tidy up the mud I accidentally tracked in from this lovely (sarcasm font) April shower season. read more

While the display of the art is modest, the art itself is of the finest quality. This can be seen on the price tags, of course, so be aware of that. It is worth every cent. The educational element to this gallery means you shouldn't rush through here, especially during your first visit. Selecting anything to purchase is meant to be a memorable experience. Fortunately, this is a very relaxed space. The Trickster Gallery is true to itself in a way that I've never experienced anywhere else. I anticipate returning to purchase more beautiful art there. As a side note, thank you to the Native American Veterans and their loved ones for contributing so much to preserve our liberties in service and additionally for bringing The Trickster Gallery to the public. I feel like this should be on more peoples' lists. I've never seen it mentioned in guidebooks or websites of things to do in Schaumburg, and it only has one Yelp review (now two)! It's a shame because the Trickster Gallery really is a neat place. The art was thoughtful and interesting and I'll admit that I even considered purchasing a few pieces, although my wallet vetoed that idea. The guy running the place was funny and helpful as well. Overall it's a very good representation of Native Americans in modern society as told through art. Do yourself a favor and head over to the only Native operated fine arts institution in Illinois. read more

Native American gallery, with fantastic art and photography. Very affordable and beautiful paintings and sculptures (mixed media). I love Native American culture and art, and this place offers it at a great value, and serene atmosphere. There's a terrific little gift shop which I highly recommend for hand-made beaded and silver, and semi-precious jewelry --very affordable, great deals! I spent around $100 and got tons of jewelry (earrings, bracelets, necklaces), books, and a CD with relaxing and amazing Native American music (don't know where else I could even get these things!). My family really appreciated the jewelry I gave as gifts. When I was there, I was shopping for holiday gifts and it was really peaceful and the woman working at the gift shop was super nice and funny. I want them to do well and helping get the word out about this place. read more

This is actually the place I cast my vote in the 2016 election, but while I was waiting for the others with me to finish I got a chance to look around the gallery. The place isn't huge, but it is very cool. I especially appreciated the wall of pictures of Native military veterans. Also, there's a map on the floor in one of the rooms that gives a rough idea of where all the different tribes came from. It's huge! read more

The Trickster Art Gallery is amazing. I had no idea this existed until recently. Trickster is dedicated to art created by Native Americans, and to educating visitors about the history of Native Americans. The space is small, and obviously not well funded, but it doesn't matter, the art and Native American artifacts there are beautiful and worth the visit. The gallery also supports Veterans and has a significant portion of their space dedicated to those veterans. Currently they have a super cool temporary exhibit about how Native Americans are portrayed in American culture, the good, the bad, and the ugly. The person who created that collection is not afraid to tell you his story and answer questions about his Native American heritage. I was blown away by the ease and comfort level of all who were there. They answered questions, explained their culture, and I feel like I learned so much while I was there. I will be back. Rumor has it they have a D-Day exhibit coming July 2018. Should be amazing! read more

This really is a nice place to go and spend some time looking around. It, for me, is relaxing, I love looking at different art, it is something that helps me relax and gets me thinking about what the artist must have been thinking when they made this piece. read more
