So not only is it impossible to rinse your pup off after a romp in the mud, there is also no water supply for drinking. Lesson learned on the first trip. But after the first visit, I learned all these things. Now I know what weather I can go to this park and enjoy it, and also that I need to bring my own water for my dog! I would visit this dog park often, and every time we went, my Paizley always found playmates and always had a great time! So I decided to give this one a chance as it had fairly all raving reviews. From a first glance, when we first arrived, parking was very minimal and I'm not sure how well that would work if it were to be a busier day and time. The beginning area for dogs to play around was quite small comparatively to some other parks I've went to but I found that the focus is primarily on the trails. The trail itself was nice, pretty well-maintained however some of the fences are all bent and seem like a hazard if your dog was to be sprinting or kids were running and bumped into it. Though my shepherd is fabulous with recall, the area is not completely fenced off so there is a chance your pooch could find their way to a school or parking lot towards the top. We walked for about 40 minutes and everything was seemingly going quite well and we were enjoying ourselves. Until, we came back to the gate to leave. As I was approaching, I noticed two dog owners and their dogs chatting. As I was getting closer, my shepherd went ahead in front of me and out of nowhere, the lady's dog full force rushes my dog and bites her in the leg. As I'm rushing to go to my dog and make sure everything is alright, the lady just says "Oh we've just been here too long". Excuse me? Off-Leash places should have mannered dogs that don't just randomly attack other dogs. My dog was literally just strolling along and got trampled and bit until she squealed. To top it off, the other dog owner came over trying to comfort my dog by hugging her and holding her and I told him she's probably even more scared because you're a stranger to her and she's not getting any comfort from you, he completely ignored me. After this my dog was off all day, she was erratic and on guard when I went to my training class with the other dogs. So much so, that I had to take her outside for a break to calm down. People need to have well-mannered dogs and be able to control their dogs. My pup keeps to herself and doesn't provoke other dogs or cause problems. This should be every dog that comes to an off leash dog area, otherwise don't bring your dog or go get some training done.

However, I've seen people walk to the park without a leash while my two dogs struggle on their leashes because they get approached and usually want to play. It's a mess. There is always ALWAYS dog poop left along the side of the trail that leads to the park. Good: nice run area with shady places. Most dogs are friendly. It's an easy to access off-leash park and they PROVIDE poop bags on rolls at both ends of the park. There is a trash receptacle inside the park, just outside the gate and a big dumpster in the parking area. Bad: a volunteer at the park does not leash his dog, (if he even owns one) and throws his cigarette butts on the ground everywhere. He also will throw away ANY water bowl someone leaves for the dogs. I know it's a rule to not share dog bowls but the dogs don't know that. Willis Tucker, Clark Park and others I've been to leave bowls of water and no one throws them in the trash. The community agrees it's ok and some even bring big water containers to refill. Many people who come regularly do it to socialize with others which is great but they don't pay attention to their dogs who I've seen poop which leaves a LOT of dog poop all over the place. It's a shame that over the 14 years I've been coming here that with the extreme population that has occurred in Lake Stevens that several visitors DO give a literal sh*t.

My dog has been attacked three times since we have been coming to this dog park. Not the fault of the dog but the stupidity and negligence of the dog owner, the ones that let their dogs run free and are glued to their cell phones and don't monitor their dogs. Unfortunately, these are the dog owners that have aggressive and untrained dogs that will attack another dog with no warning. If you attend this dog park, I recommend going during the week and not weekends, since weekends seem to be a crap shoot of irresponsible dog owners. Please don't put your dog in danger, a dog park should be a place that is fun and safe for your dog and you.

There is really a bit of everything, from wooded areas to open fields. I definitely enjoyed the variety. I think the only drawbacks is that gravel parking lot has a port-a-potty for bathroom facilities (I mean, it keeps in with the theme of being more wild?). By the parking area is a main sign with park information and a map of the trail system, which includes an inner and an outer loop, with a marker for where the sign is located "You are here" on the lower left. The sunlight was a little more golden/yellow than normal due to wildfire smoke haze. The air was warm and birds sang throughout out my walk around the outer loop. They flitted from branch to branch and rustled about in the brush on the ground. I encountered juncos, song sparrows, rufous-sided towhees, a rufous hummingbird, and a gray squirrel while walking. Wildflowers were in bloom and salmonberry plants bore both blooms and not yet ripe fruit. For the outer trail, I found the path to be relatively flat and easy to traverse. I paid attention to road positioning as I walked as I could glimpse it through the trees at different points on the trail. It started on my right (I went counterclockwise around the outer loop), so I knew I was nearing full-circle when it switched back to being on my right again. I missed the parking area by one side trail and ended up coming out at the end of the lot instead of the main trailhead. Fun park to enjoy the wilderness.

Spotting some water beyond a fence along a trail down slope from the trail I was on, I made my way over to check it out. The surface was calm and a solitary duck was forging for food, plunging its head beneath the surface of the water and coming back up to chomp what it found. The trees were tall and provided protection from the small falling raindrops. Wild berries were in bloom on a few plants along the trail. For parking, I went with street parking near the walking entrance on 83rd Avenue West and 208th Street Southwest.
