I visited here today for first time. This is a cute tea shop with many teas available for purchase. The teas come in tea bags and also in loose form. They have the teas available to smell before purchase. It would be a nice touch if they had at least one tea on site to sample when you come visit. read more

Still my favorite tea brand! I've been trying different tea brands whenever I travel somewhere, but MF still has a place in my heart. We came here thinking that it still has the salon (restaurant/cafe), but it turned out that it's been closed for 2years already. Only the Marais & Etoille stores have the cafe. However, you can still order tea hot/cold from here Staff here is super nice and patient. The tea collection is pretty complete. They have the new stuff as well as the classic selections. Don't forget to pick up some Madeline. We tried the yuzu, earl grey imperial madeline. Regretted that we only got 1 pc. MF hasn't failed me yet. Always try to always have MF tea in my pantry. read more

This review is just for our website order. Ordered 5 boxes of tea bags, and love that they're cotton tea bags and not plastic, which may not be the best thing to put in boiling water. The tea bags are also a reasonable value since they're 30 to a box, a lot compared to Lupicia at 10 to a foil bag. The Wedding Imperial tea is sumptuous and dark colored with some cocoa in there. The Japanese Fuyiyama is a delightful light green tea, and the Sakura Sakura is an organic cherry blossom green tea that's also quite light and enjoyable. The Ceylon is spot on, like a Ceylon should be - THE classic black tea. The Sultane (Ceylon morning tea blend) is quite strong, wouldn't brew it for too long. The Genmaicha is organic too, and good as well. Really wish there were more oolongs from Taiwan and more scented green/oolong tea bags. read more

One of my friends grew up in Paris, and had purchased some of Mariage Freres tea for me to try as a Christmas present. I fell in love, and put it on my to do list to check this place out upon my next visit. I was not disappointed. This location is one of the original shops, and you can definitely sense the history of tea when you walk in, and provides an additional charm to the atmosphere. The tea shop is on the first floor, and you just need to climb the stairs in order to access the tea room. The tea shop is a bit overwhelming, as you can choose from many different types of tea, sold in different ways. You can buy tea in bags, tins of just the leaves, or go the front and ask for your choice of tea by weight, and they will open up a canister and make a bag for you. The tea room was historically charming and cosy. I could have spent hours here. They provide you with a food/tea menu, a tea only menu, and a book describing the different teas, and tea etiquette. The food here looked amazing, especially the pastries. I wish I had come with more room in my stomach. My friend and I each selected a tea and a macaroon. I loved that you get a full pot of your selected tea. The tea of course was amazing. The macaroon was OK. It was everything I had hoped for and more. I ended my stay of course by purchasing some of the amazing tea leaves to take home with me. read more

My wife and I had just finished exploring the Louvre and decided to stop in to Mariage Freres for some tea with brunch. This is a quaint little shop, nestled behind rows of apartments just South of 'Les Bouquinistes' restaurant. The atmosphere is exactly what I would expect an 'old school' tea shop to look like. The main floor is where they sell tea to customers, along with the assortment of gifts and tea supplies. There is a small staircase with a menu next to it leading upstairs to where the tables are. While the tables are a little crowded together, we were able to find a corner to ourselves, and enjoyed a nice spinach salad with duck foie gras, salmon, and prawns (there were other ingredients, be I wasn't able to write it down in time). Served with green tea toast, and a piping hot darjeeling tea. I would recommend this place to anyone who is near the Louvre, Notre Dame cathedral, and wants to enjoy a lite lunch with tea. read more

We had an exquisite brunch at Mariage Frères. The dining room is on the second floor of a beautifully quaint tea shop in one of the most charming and ancient streets in all of Paris just two blocks from the Seine. Lots of old oak wood paneling and golden yellow walls make this rather formal dining setting, complete with starched white table clothes and napkins, feel rather cozy and inviting. The waiters, too, are all in starched white, jackets, trousers and bow ties, and they make a charmingly formal ritual of preparing your tea from the extensive list of teas available. A list so thorough that it numbers well into three digits! Also, adding to the very French ambiance, is an appetizing and visually beautiful display of desserts, scones and tea cakes placed in the center of the room just under the main chandelier. We ordered the brunch selection entitled "Classique" which consisted of creamy scrambled eggs artistically garnished with green tea powder, smoked salmon, and three perfectly cooked shrimp atop a salad of parsley, cilantro, and finely sliced beets and carrots, all blended in a divinely delicious dressing. Our brunch also came with freshly squeezed orange juice and, of course, our tea selection, which for us was a fantastically flavorful Darjeeling brewed to absolute perfection. Each of us received our own individual tea pot encased in a silver tea cozy. The place is so tea oriented that even the two types of salts offered are infused with some type of powdered tea. After the brunch is completed you are invited to browse the desserts and make your selection. We chose a rich multi-layered lemon tart with meringue topping, a raspberry tart, and a mango and coconut pavlova. All three were amazing, but for me, anything lemon is always my favorite. One of the things I like most about my husband is his ability to coax a smile from virtually everyone with whom he interacts. This, more often than not, tends to result in laughter on all sides. Tea at Mariage Frères is a very serious business and I just knew the formality and seriousness of it all would be too irresistible for my husband. In no time our waiter was smiling and giggling with us over a conversation about table crumbs and whether or not you could predetermine who would make the most mess based solely on the demeanor of their faces! Thanks to the good sportsmanship of our waiter, this bit of lightness was the perfect conclusion to a nearly perfect brunch, perhaps dispelling forever any notion that restaurants in Paris, even the most formal, are not friendly! On your way out be sure to pick up some gifts in the tea shop downstairs. You'll find many of the jams served upstairs along with chocolates, tea cakes, tea infused salts, tea paraphernalia, and every type and flavor of tea known to the world! read more

Classic and over the top tea salon. The ground floor is the tea shop where you can purchase hundreds (yes hundreds) of various teas from around the world. The second floor is the tea salon - classic white linen tables and old wood floors. The selection can be a little daunting, but the attendant will lead you toward a country or region, perfume or spicy, green or dark or white or...yes hundreds of choices. A limited selection of small plates is available as well. What else can you get? Well, tea accessories and books on the history of tea. You can get one of the special individual tea pots they use upstairs for 140 Euro or a set of Mariage Frères tea cups. This is worth the experience at least once - or over and over. Try Mariage Frères and your view of all that is Paris will shift just a bit. read more

I am writing this review as I enjoy a cup of Mariage Freres Marco Polo tea that I brought home with me. It is sensational and should NOT be missed! This tea should not be rushed, but instead savored and enjoyed as the experience that it is. Though I am mostly a coffee drinker, this tea is absolutely delicious! The shop is quite lovely and you can sense a real pride in the products that are sold here. The service was a bit stuffy and I would have liked a little more assistance with sampling more flavors, but my review is for the tea itself and I highly recommend that you bring some home if you are not fortunate enough to live near a Mariage Freres. I absolutely loved visiting this tea shop. It had a sense of french colonial decor in the upstairs tea room. It is just lovely! The first floor is a store front and they were very helpful when I was there. As a little bonus, they also have a tiny museum in the basement. It is very small but a cute 5min addition to the experience. I have been numerous times, and every time I tried to go upstairs to sit and have a cup of tea. They have great food, and its nice to be able to try some of the tea before you buy. It is served hot and is always SO good. I personally love the mint rose green tea, I love it a lot and it has been very difficult to find in the USA. I would definitely recommend stopping in and sitting for a bit. This was the most fantastic meal we had in Paris. All of the food was inspired by tea and was delightful along with the massive amount of teas to try. We tried their strawberry dessert on special and it was so beautiful and tasted delicious! This should be a must stop on your tour of Paris. At my friend's suggestion, we went here to have afternoon tea at the tea salon. One of my favorite places in Paris! We were there during a hot summer, but inside, it was cool and elegant. We had a pot of tea and shared a plate of mini desserts. The desserts were so-so, but the tea was excellent. Afterwards, we went to the store to buy some loose leaf tea to take home. A man at the counter suggested buying Marco Polo, which is their most popular tea. I was quite surprised yet pleased by my purchase after I tasted my first brew of it back home. Its fragrance reminds me of chocolate, yet it has a subtle taste of flowers. I love that they have a website where you can order their teas from abroad and learn about how to brew tea. I don't drink coffee unless it's 100% Kona coffee from Hawaii because it's low in acidity, so I had to find a good place for some tea. A friend recommended me Mariages Frères because they serve a large variety of tea with the option of having a traditional afternoon tea meal. I was a bit skeptical, because afternoon tea is more of a British tradition, but the French are famous for their breads and pastries, so I had to give it a try. I ordered their loose leaf green tea which was as good as the ones I have at home! I ordered a blueberry scone, a variety of macaroons, and a chocolate cake. Everything was fresh and very delicious! The macaroons didn't taste as amazing as the ones they have at Ladurée, but I don't think there is a single place in Paris that beats Ladurée for their macaroons. read more

Incredibly friendly and helpful associates walked me through the teas and were happy to teach me about the history of the tea shop when I asked. This brand is the oldest tea shop in Paris!
