Tacos were excellent, I tried the pork, chicken and beef. I Chicken taco was juicy and full of flavor. Husband had the large beef burrito and thought it was a bit lacking in flavors but when green sauce was added really perked it up. The seafood burrito is our daughters favorite and filled with shrimp. The green hot sauce is extremely flavorful without being too hot. The churros are wagon wheel shaped and sort of plain tasting, yet delicious with the red hot sauce on them. The location is kinda sketchy looking but seems like most people order to go. The have a handful of tables in a sun porch if you wanted to eat there. I would go back again. Much better than other Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

Drive up and ordered tacos, tamales and vegetarian burrito. Everything was made fresh and fabulous! My husband had both pork and chicken tamales and said they were the BEST he has had--lifetime! You have a tortilla, and some meat. It sounds so simple and yet so many restaurants get Tacos wrong. In Marshalltown, we have a wide variety of places to get tacos, and most are garbage. You have the standard Tex-Mex below average variety, or the authentic stuff like Maria's Tacos. Here is what I like about Maria's Tacos. It's open during lunch hours and they are pretty consistent. Their menu selection is as authentic as they come. Anything from the no-frills asada, barbacoa to the "real" stuff like tongue and head, which I highly recommend. The menu also has tortas, tamales, quesadillas, orchata, and Jarritos. Now, most people might be put off because this is not a restaurant where you can come and sit. It's a window out of a house with an enclosure built around it to keep you out of the wind. In Mexico, taco stands are usually around city squares, or ran out of a house. People gather around to order their tacos to eat there or to take home. Ordering at Maria's tacos captures that experience perfectly. So don't be deterred by the location. The food is good! As for what to expect. This place is cash only, and the orders get done fairly quick. The ladies are super nice. I would recommend asking for extra lime and salsas. What they put is not enough if you are eating at least 4 tacos, which is a good portion for an adult. All in all, I give this place my highest recommendation. It is the only place to find authentic Mexican tacos during lunch hours here in town. read more

Driving home from college, my family and I were eager to try something new for lunch. After browsing Yelp for a while we settled on Maria's Tacos as our choice. Driving up to it, the 'restaurant' is like a covered porch in front of a house. My family loved it. We tried a lot of things on the menu, including all their tacos and a chicken burrito. It was so fresh and incredible. On top of that, we ordered several Mexican sodas--all of which tasted wholesome and unique; no corn syrup here. Went for seconds. read more

So don't expect to eat at this restaurant in winter. Very limited seating and it's not heated! There was ice on the floor in the dining area where we ordered tacos from a window. We ended up taking ours back to the office. Someone suggested the burrito to me, but I'm more of a taco girl so I got one chicken, one chorizo, and one azada. Tacos were tasty, but very small. They were only $2, but I've had larger tacos for $1. My total was only $10, because I got two tamales too. One pineapple and one green chicken. This is where it gets ugly. I'm not sure if these were more authentic than I'm used to, but I did not enjoy them. They were just mush... pineapple tasted like a pineapple corn-meal cake.. and the chicken really looked like it was dyed green with food coloring. Very little flavor on the chicken and it was very very dry. If I end up going back, I will stick to the tacos or maybe try the burrito if I'm feeling like taking a risk. read more

Best Mexican food in Marshalltown!! The burritos are great, and their tacos are perfect for a light lunch or snack. I recommend the breakfast burrito, which is served all day. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but the food inside is a real treat! A must-try restaurant in Mtown. The green sauce is fantastic and mild, but for a real experience try the red sauce! It's spicy enough for your friends with the boldest of taste buds, but still tastes great! read more

Okay... so this is the best Mexican food that we've found in Marshalltown (WAY better than Plaza Mexico or El Portal). However, the food was still "just average". The prices were okay, but the servings were also small. The beans had an okay flavor, but were too runny. The tamales were awful. The tacos were decent. The seating wasn't family friendly... you can either sit in the sun alongside the parking lot of an auto repair shop or sit in the sun along the sidewalk/street. We may or may not return for takeout, but would definitely not eat in. read more

I ordered carne asada tacos here. The flavor was good, and I was quite pleased. They accept credit/debit cards. The salsa was extremely spicy. I think I will be going back for more. read more

Everyone in town was raving about trying this place out so me and my sister in law came here around 1:30 pm on Tuesday and had to find a whole other building to park at didn't know that this business would be served out of a house/shack and when we walked up the lady greeted us very rudely and we asked for 6 tacos de asada and 4 grilled chicken which seemed like it took an eternity to make... when we got out tacos they were served in little food trays with seran wrap and super tiny. When I began eating the tacos had absolutely not flavor super bland and the table we sat at was dirty will definitely not be returning. read more
