1. My daughter wanted a specific dress but she wanted it short, Maria's did a TERRIFIC job shortening it and as the best surprise ever she gave it pockets!!! (My daughter had made a comment that the only thing that could make the dress better was pockets and she must have heard her) Plan for enough time, the rush fees are no joke. And this place is a little on the higher end in terms of cost but the quality is WORTH IT! As a note if you are looking for a super relaxed environment where someone is going to chat with you 30 min before wrapping up what needs done and getting the business taken care of... that isn't this place, they are busy and working hard so chit chat is a minimum. read more

We walked in to see if we could get a cowl neck formal dress for Prom altered in one week...we'd been to several other shops refusing to work on the dress...they said put on the dress and let us have a look, nope cannot tailor this one, but here's some fashion emergency tape, showed us how to use it and the dress looks wonderful... no charge... well we'll tell everyone about this experience. I have used Maria's in the past but after this last time, I doubt I will be back. They took over a month to do what I needed done. A zipper needed replaced in a skirt and they charged nearly $50 and the skirt was wrinkled when I got it back. For $50, I would expect a pressed garment. The zipper was only half pressed. A dress that we had hemmed was hemmed way too short by several inches. And the icing on the cake is that the girl that helped me was NOT friendly to me at all. Another customer came in while I was waiting and she practically fell all over herself to be friendly to him. I got the feeling that she couldn't get me out of the shop fast enough. read more

I came into Maria's to get a pantsuit hemmed and called ahead since I needed it done within a week. They accept walk-ins and you do not need an appointment. The staff were so friendly and kind and actually told me they didn't think I needed my item hemmed because of the shoes I planned to wear. I appreciated that they were honest rather than charging me for an unneeded service. I've been searching for a good place in Colorado Springs and will definitely be using Maria's! read more

I want to start off with they were very nice and fast. I needed a rush job on a bridesmaid dress (2 weeks). I was expecting to pay over $100 because of the time frame, it was $71.50 for the dress to be hemmed. No big deal, except my dress was COVERED with pet hair. Went and bought a pet hair lint roller, 3 lint papers later and there's still pet hairs. I'm going to have to go get the dress cleaned. If you have the time and money to go get it cleaned, they're fine. Unfortunately I don't have the time so it's very inconvenient. read more

Absolute worst experience. I am not sure how they are in business. They denied me a simple alteration saying it was impossible. Another shop did it no problem. They made a huge deal about it which was quite humiliating. They altered my sisters dress and it came back loaded in dog hair due to the animal that walks around inside the shop. An expensive dress with dog hair on it before being worn seems ridiculous. The rugs smell moldy inside as well. Very dirty location, terrible customer service. read more

I've had 4 jerseys altered or made by Maria's tailor shop. Every time i went in, the place and staff was very professional. All letters and numbers were sewn on my jerseys. They even "made" me a hoody out of fleece and a jersey. The price was always fair and agreed upon before work was done, and the time it took was resonable as well. All in all I am very happy with their services, and would recommend them to anyone. read more

VERY unprofessional and rude!! Customer service is atrocious! Maria's Tailor Shop is THE worst alterations shop I have ever experienced. I was quoted $40 on the phone before I went to their location. When I arrived, the customer service was terrible. It was a "sweat shop" environment. Dirty, humid, and just downright shabby. The lady who "helped" us was rude, and mean to my son (who's suit we were getting altered). She was rushing us, and I felt pushed around. I did not at any time feel like a client, but I was made to feel like a burden for taking up her time. We were there for all of 10 minutes, and only one other customer walked in while we were there. My husband went to pick up the suit (it took three weeks to do an alteration on a child's suit), and he was told the total was now $90. More than double the quoted price. I understand $10-$15 change in price, but this is unacceptable. The suit was also dirty, and wrinkled at the time he tried to pick it up. Even though, I had taken it to the cleaners beforehand. I called and spoke to the manager about the price difference. I asked her if she could meet me halfway, since I was not informed of this huge jump in price beforehand. She was very condescending, and arrogant with me. I told her it was not made clear to me that the $40 was just the "starting price.", or I would have gone to a different place. My negotiations were more than reasonable, yet she was being extremely barbaric and disagreeable. When I got off the phone with the manager, I asked my husband to go back in and have them remove the work they had done, and give us back the suit. This was after speaking with the manager twice in regards to working something out. When he did this, the manager was even more insulting than before. She was using derogatory words towards him, and treating him like a vile human being. When she finally agreed to meet us halfway, she told my husband "You need to take your shitty suit and get out of here now." I understand that they performed a service, but the service was not up to the standard I was told to count on. Nor was the price on par with what was quoted. Instead of trying to help solve the situation, the manager aggravated and intensified the whole scenario. She rudely told me over the phone that I should "Take my business elsewhere." Well, I WILL take it elsewhere. The Tide Drycleaners on Centennial is amazing, and the prices are stellar. I was not aware they did alterations like this until today. I will NEVER go back to Maria's Tailor Shop. Tide is the way to go! read more

I would not recommend Maria's Tailor Shop. I bought a beautiful dress for a wedding, and it needed to be taken in. The gal at Maria's who fitted my dress was gruff and rushed. This would have been ok if the dress was altered properly, but when I picked it up and tried it on, the dress was pretty much unwearable. The fitting is so off and uneven, the workmanship is poor, and, honestly, I feel it is ruined. So disappointed. read more

this place is amazing!!! for my junior year prom i bought a dress with a top that i loved. but i hates the skirt.... so i took it to maria's tailor shop and spoke to the lady at the front. she instructed me to find a matching fabric and so that's just what i did. i bought several yards of fabric and maria's tailor shop completely re made my skirt. i got so many compliments on my dress and the work was flawless. i feel like if they can do this they could do anything haha.... for my senior prom my dress just needs to be hemmed. but i'll post pics of that too. totally recommend! read more

I brought in a formal dress to have hemmed and a clasp sewn back on because it was coming loose. Maria was helpful and the alteration was done quickly. I needed it back within a month and they had it done within two weeks. When I picked up my dress the hem was perfect and looked just as it did when I bought it. I walked in without an appointment and the girls assisted me right away. They pinned up my 2 dresses in no time, and they were ready in a few days for $10 a piece. (Easy, one layer casual summer dresses). They can even text you to let you know when your items are ready to be picked up. Overall- friendly, efficient, and fairly priced service. It's also in a strip mall so if you want to get a mani/pedi or some grub afterwards you can bang out a few errands at once. I will definitely return should I need anything altered. read more

I have let this shop take care of my tailoring needs many times in the past as I have lived in the Briargate area since 2000. I never had an issue until it changed ownership a few years ago. Briefly, it is now overpriced and dishonesty and lack of integrity are what I have experienced since the change in ownership. I will NOT be going this shop any longer. In fact, I have disputed my latest credit card charge as the work that I was told would be done was not done. This place does an okay job and the employees are competent. They know what a hem is, a taper, etc. That being said, there's nothing to rave about, no "greatness" in their capabilities to alter clothes. Like I said, they do an okay/average job and the employees are polite. What isn't good about this place is their prices and the time frame it takes for them to get your clothes back to you. Prices: This place is expensive. Considering there's nothing special about this place and their quality of work, they should lower their prices a bit. A regular hem is $10 when I used to pay $6 at the other alterations place I used to go to, and I can honestly say their work was great; they truly worked some miracles when it came to alterations. Anyhow, I forgot how much Maria's Tailor Shop In Briargate charges for tapering, but I remember thinking "no, thanks!" because it was too expensive and along with the hem. It just wasn't worth spending that amount of money on ONE pair of jeans on top of what I had just paid to actually buy the jeans in the first place. Also, they have silly and unnecessary charges like "rush" charges. It's only $2, not a big deal...but they don't tell you they charge for something dumb like this when you ask if you can get your clothes back sooner, they just bill you. Considering this place is already pricey and there's nothing grand about it, they don't need to make it more expensive by trying to make a few extra bucks here and there. Timeframe: This place takes a week to alter jeans (I don't know how long it takes for other articles of clothing such as dresses, suits, etc.). To me, that's a long time for jeans. Again, at the other alterations place I used to go to, they would ASK me (not TELL ME) when I needed it by and I would pick up my clothes 3-4 days later, not a week later. I just moved to Colo Springs, so I really wish I can go back to where I used to take my clothes, they wouldn't charge me extra if I needed my clothes sooner and they would let me know ahead of time about any additional charges instead of just billing me for it. Overall, this place seemed more concerned about how to make more money in whatever way they can (they also have ridiculous signs inside saying they'll charge $5 extra for unclean clothes given to them and delay giving your clothes back to you by 2 days because they'll have to dry clean the clothes). How about telling the customer that they can't work on the clothes because they're dirty so come back at another time?Are they that desperate for clientele that they're worried the customer won't come back? Again, trying to make an extra buck whenever they can. The quality of work and number of clientele should speak for itself. I guess this explains a lot. read more

I feel really fortunate to have found this place. It is the kind of neighborhood business that feels like family. Their work is great quality and reasonably priced. There is a great sense of the "hands-on personal care" that I wish more businesses had. They do it in a reasonable length of time and it's done when they say it will be done. They are in a shopping center at a pretty busy intersection but surprisingly easy to get into and out of. The days of wondering where I can get this repair or that alteration or some small sewing job are over for me now that I've found this place. A single word describes this place; AWESOME. read more

My daughter had a custom wedding gown made recently and had to have the bust altered as the designer put in a cup size too large. Didn't think it would be a big problem for an alteration. They trashed the gown because they "cut" too much of the bust area. Was a very detailed design, spaghetti strap, gorgeous lace fitted with a very modest cut bust line. They cut the sides to pieces and her breast was exposed on the sides. They told her to use body tape and it'd be fine. It's NOT fine....she wanted her modesty and they think it's just fine to expose the breasts instead of fixing it. Now that too much fabric has been taken off the gown is a total loss. Don't take your wedding gowns for alterations, they claim to be professional in this area. They are not. They will not pay for the gown they totally trashed, paying us half of the cost of the alteration and my daughter can not wear on her wedding day this coming Sunday. We are at a total loss.
