The Marietta Square is a destination! Cool events happen and lots of restaurants to choose from so you can spend an entire day! On my visit, I was lucky to be there for the free, "Chalk Art Event." Many artists were doing original chalk art while you stroll by and the artist abilities were spectacular! Amazing artists drew on the streets in the square and it is an event worth checking out! I believe it only happens one time per yr? The square was blocked off from traffic and art booths and food vendors were available for shoppers. All the vendors and artists were friendly and would take time to have a conversation with spectators. Check the online calendar to find out what event you can attend, as it's sure to be a good time and usually free! Located in the heart of Marietta, Marietta Square is actually named Glover Park after a prior mayor from the late 1800's who donated the land for the park. One stipulation what that he had to be for the enjoyment of the Citizens and if someone ever tried to change that, the park would revert to Mayor Glover's descendants. Right in the heart of old downtown Marietta it is a beautiful square that changes with the seasons. Best known for its Fountain and Gazebo, it also has a Bandstand and a myriad of flowers. Particularly beautiful in spring when the Azalea are in bloom. A lot of activity for the children and this place is a child's dream. Right now, they are finishing up with Christmas in July with a visit from Santa last weekend. Marietta Square is surrounded on all side by a large number of restaurants, bars and shops with even more on the side streets just off the Square. Two of my favorites are Glover Park Brewery and Stockyard Burgers where we went for my Daughter's Birthday along with her Family, her brothers and her mother who lives nearby. Fun place with a lot of memories and we try to drop by each and everytime we visit Marietta. read more

Every Wednesday, my hubby and I enjoy what we call Wednesday's night out. This is where we pick a restaurant that we've never gone to before and enjoy a meal and a cocktail. We decided on doing this back in June! so far we are still stuck on the Marietta Square. We've enjoyed numerous cocktails From the third door down. pizza from Marietta Pizza Company, food from Willie social bar. Cocktails from the Red Hair, empanadas, cocktails, and Asian food from tsunami Taqueria, ham burgers from the Stock yard, and some the best wings and frozen drinks from the Frozen Goose!! The food court had a ton of great selections to try and the staff were all friendly and seemed happy to be working. As suburban downtowns continue to become all the rage, Marietta Square was ahead of the times and has had the OTP downtown square game on lock for years! Marietta Square is the quintessential southern small town city center. The streets are lined with all the normal things you expect such as government buildings, fountains, jewelry shops, theatres (live and film), antique shops, art studios, clothing shops, etc...and in addition, Marietta Square also plays host to a plethora of eateries where you can get pizza, sushi, breakfast, bbq, tacos, pho and desserts to name a few and even a block from city center you can even find a brewery and a food hall! A few of my favorite spots that frequent on or around the square are definitely MPC for a good slice, Glover Park for a good beer, Two Birds for a phenomenal date night and Johnny MacCracken's for a great time! In addition to all the local businesses supported in the square, they also support the arts and local community in many ways from festivals, farmers markets and art exhibits (even ones of the street chalk variety!). Parking can be tricky on those busy days, but the street is lined with a bit of parking and in the event those spaces are full, which is 99% of the time, you can easily find a spot in one of the many pay lots around the square. Most will run you about $5 for the full day. Overall, Marietta Square is a great place for all folks of all backgrounds and lifestyles. Whether it is coming for a biscuit on Saturday morning or a beer on Sunday afternoon...or even a pizza on Wednesday night, Marietta Square is cool downtown area that we will certainly return to many times. read more

Marietta Square is a very charming area in the downtown historic area. Parking was a little challenging but after driving around a block once I found one. This was a spontaneous visit so I really didn't have any specific plans so I just went for a stroll, window shopped and completed some actual shopping as well. There's a nice selection of restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and everyone I interacted with was pretty friendly. I absolutely loved the Local (see review). The square has a beautiful fountain that is the focal point with benches for you to sit down, it's located at Glover Park. There's also a replica of Liberty Bell and a play area for kids. I would definitely visit again and dine at a restaurant next time or see a play. When William Sherman and his union trips came through here on Nov. 12, 1864...he ordered his troops to burn all that they see....According to eye witness accounts the torch master himself was actually present for this one....They left a few days later on November 15 for their famous "March to the sea" campaign....leaving a trail of destruction. Sherman ordered his men to dismantle railroad tracks, wagon factories...anything that was useful to the confederacy..."destroy all bridges" were his famous words....It took years and years for the south to rebuild what Sherman and his men did in a few days....interestingly William Sherman had spared the home of Cecila Stovall of Bartow County from being burned by his soldiers because she is rumored to be his first love.... It is also rumored that there are underground tunnels from the square to the court house....there are guesses as to what the tunnels were used for...underground railroad? smuggling live stock or even hiding valuable from Sherman and his looting soldiers.... Anyway along with interesting history this place has the echoing charms of a by gone era. From the eclectic eatery to antiques shops and even a joke shop...you really can't go wrong coming here. One of my most favorite places in Marietta. There is plenty of food choices and events around the Square. I just love to drive through and pass by the Park in the middle of the Square. Out of all of the Atlanta suburbs, I think Marietta has the best historic downtown, a.k.a. Marietta Square. Hence, 5 stars. It's just that -- an old-fashioned, old-timey city square. It helps that Marietta is one of the older and more established Atlanta suburbs. Marietta Square features Glover Park in the center, complete with a beautiful fountain, greenspace, gazebos, and a playground for the kiddies. The best part about the square, though, are the collection of shops and restaurants that border it. There are over two dozen restaurants and dessert places on and around the square. The selection of cuisine and treats is diverse and eclectic. Pretty much a Yelper's dream. There's everything from Colombian and paleo (Kiosco) to Australian (Australian Bakery) to gelato (Pino Gelato) to Asian tacos (Taqueria Tsunami) to classic American pizza (Marietta Pizza Company) to Italian (La Famiglia) to sushi and Thai (Thaicoon Sushi Bar). There are brick sidewalks, lots of trees, and plenty of patio dining. When the weather is nice, the patios are a very popular place where people dine, thanks to the shade provided by the many trees and tall buildings around the square. When the breeze blows, it makes for a pleasant and relaxing meal. Along with restaurants, there are all sorts of quaint and unique shops, boutiques, and other businesses. Examples include a coffee shop, a beauty salon, clothing boutiques, and an antiques shop. There's even an art deco theater, the Strand Theatre. Marietta Square is a very popular place for families. It's kid and pet-friendly. Every Fall, there is an arts and crafts festival at the square called Marietta Art in the Park. If you're an Atlantan, it's worth going to at least once in your lifetime. It's free. Marietta Square seems especially busy during the work week. Many people, myself included, enjoy coming here for lunch. Also, since it's downtown, all of the government offices are open, increasing traffic. The weekends aren't as busy. Free parking is available directly on the square. If you can't find parking there, I like to park at a free parking lot on Mill Street, near the intersection with North Marietta Parkway. Marietta has become my home away from home and I honestly love the Marietta Sqaure... I love my city and everything in it. The square has everything. It meets my hunger and my fitness needs. I like going on Saturday mornings to farmers market, its great to walk around and explore the local vendors. It's not a big farmers market so don't blink, but you're sure to find what you're looking for. Zumba is offered at the local community church on the square ( how cool is that ???) and I've discovered a yoga studio that I can't wait to try out, and walking around in the sqaure is a great workout in itself. My son love's to go to Sarah Jeans for Ice Cream and I'm waiting for the perfect opportunity to try the Labanese restaurant located near the theater ( they have belly dancers-yayy). I don't do a lot of shopping on the square because I haven't given the local boutiques a fair chance yet, but I have tried several restaurants and no matter what you're craving, you are sure to find it on the sqaure ( don't forget the award winning cupcake shop-lol ). I always enjoy a visit to the Marietta Square. My first memories of the square are visiting Eddie's Trick Shop. I used to love that place. As a kid, I thought it was the greatest shop ever! I loved the magic tricks and gags they had there. As a teen, I remember a teen club that I used to enjoy called Our Place. It was on the back side of the square near the train tracks. That was probably the first "dance club" that I had ever been to and I loved the music they played and enjoyed many nights dancing there. Now, as an adult, I can just enjoy sitting in the park. They have nice Christmas decorations and I enjoy watching people ice skate in the winter. My favorite places to visit now are probably Paul's Pot Pies, Johnnie MacCracken's Celtic Pub & Tiffany's On The Square. read more

Why has it taken forever to try this side of town it seems I always go east and never west ? What a great little area with all of the options for food, beverages, shopping and lets not forget the farmers market on the weekend. The park is in the center of town it went up in the late 1800's with plenty of trees surrounding it so if you're looking to cool down shady areas can be found, plenty of park benches are also available to sit and sun yourself if you choose. It seems a peaceful place with all hubbub going on around it and so clean too. This would be quite the photo spot for those looking to create memories with a fountain in the center, a gazebo to the side and a small train just for fun. All kinds of things are available for purchase or wear even permanently antiques to tattoos this little area has got it and gotta say I like it. read more

This place is the bomb. I never knew walking around some area in metro Atlanta would be interesting and vibrant, and I didn't even get mugged--yet. I lived in Cobb County for a long period of my life. Yet, when I thought of Marietta Square, I thought it was just a place to get your gun licence or pay your speeding ticket. Sure there were shops, but I thought they were just places old people went. Until recently, I never knew Marietta Square had so much interesting shops and restaurants. The architecture looks old but has charm to them. I also love how there is foot traffic around here. Yes, people actually walk around--in a suburb even! It looks like a real city almost. I like how most of the shops look like locally owned, mom and pop shops. Just walking around, you'll discover all sorts of places you never knew existed. I have found several restaurants that I would've never heard about until I walked around. Even though we are in Marietta, the amount of restaurants featuring different cultures are amazing. You can find Thai, Chinese, Colombian, French, Australian, American, Greek, Mexican, Italian, and other restaurants all around the square. There was even a Slovakian restaurant that unfortunately closed. There are also a ton of dessert places that serve froyo, ice cream, cupcakes, and gelatos. After you stuffed your fat face with food and desserts, you can burn off some calories at the Crossfit gym, yoga studios, fitness studios, or the dance studios scattered around town. If you don't want to exercise, you can go to The Strand Theater. It shows some cool movies. Where else can you watch some cool classics in Marietta besides your grandmother's house in East Cobb? Finally, there are many other miscellaneous things around the square like antique stores, a farmer's market, trick shops, and others that I haven't discovered yet. There's also nice train tracks that goes around the square. It kinda sucks because the traffic stops when a train comes. It makes the traffic around the square even worse. That's probably one negative of going to the square. Since everything is compact, the traffic can get frustrating, especially during special events. Also the train is loud. You can park anywhere on the street or near the main area for 2 hours. There are also private lots on the outskirts of the square you can park at. I will warn you; however, if you go to court, it might take longer than 2 hours. So I wouldn't risk parking in the 2 hour space. read more

I've been going to the square for years now which is thanks to my other best friend from college for taking me. But where does one begin when talking about the square. Well first of all, I dont consider myself a romantic, but I honestly believe the square is a place where you can fall in love and considering the weddings that they hold there... they know what's up... There's clearly something about Marietta Square that makes you want to spend time there with someone special. But getting to the point of the matter....whether taking a stroll around the square alone, to hanging with friends or family and visiting the shops, it's hard not to enjoy Marietta Square, just ask my sister who went there for the first time and loved it. There are plenty of shops with cute and unique items and various restaurants to choose from, but you have to be careful of their hours because they'll be closed before you know it. There's also usually some events going on if you look closely enough, or you can just enjoy the peacefulness of the square and chill out. Overall, I've never had a problem parking on the square, you just have to be careful backing out of a space onto the street, but cars usually stop if you're trying to get out. But get to the square early so you can visit all the stores and lastly, Eddie's Trick Shop is a must to stop by on the square!!! read more

I have witnessed some great fireworks on the fourth of July and hung out for some Halloween events as well. I ADORE Marietta Square! It's such a cool place to stroll along and visit the unique shops. They have some of the best restaurants and specialty stores. Tiny Bubbles is one of my favs along with Rocket Fizz Candy. They often have live performers on weeknights as well as festivals on the weekends. Parking can be tough, but they do have multiple parking garages that you can park for free after a certain hour. During the winter you'll find their Winter Wonderland! Marietta Square is known as Glover Park which is located in the center of the square in downtown Marietta. One of the nice places to stroll and relax yourself around the park. There is a black fountain in the center of the gazebo. Surrounding the park, there are have few shops, restaurants, tea, gift shops, and some entertained places. If you are interested in museums or history, you can stop by Marietta Musuem of History, Gone With The Wind, and others. According to my friend who been here before in the weekends, she said they have farmer market on Sat and Sun and some live music on Sun. Parking is free for 2 hrs and it said you gonna pay after 2 hrs but I don't know how you pay for it since I only there less than 2 hrs. read more

I absolutely love coming here! It is so much better than almost all of the other downtown squares I have been in. It has that small town feel to it yet very urban and diverse at the same time! The variety of stores here are insane. The most interesting for me is Eddie's Trick Shop where you can find Halloween and clown costumes galore with all other fun things! Then, there are several cafes, a cupcake shop, flower shop, pubs, wine store, antique store, theater, museums, restaurants, bakery, cigar shop, tattoo parlor, ice cream parlor, ceramic shops, and all other shops you can imagine! Then in the middle of it all is a wonderful park with a beautiful water fountain right in the middle and other nooks all around where there you can sit and enjoy a wonderful day under the shade. This place is packed with many different restaurants: They have pizzerias, a Greek restaurant, burrito restaurant, some other fancy restaurants, even a Thai restaurant and an Australian cafe (that offers all kinds of meat pies), pubs, and so much much more! I highly recommend coming this place. It is just a blast just walking around and finding out the different kinds of shops they have. Honestly, it is one of the cheapest yet most fun dates me and hubby have ever gone to. I agree with all the others who have posted about Marietta Square. It is a very charming place to visit with nice cozy feel to it. Filled with nice little shops and restaurants, a nice green space perfect for relaxing under the sun or stars, and is probably the nicest place in Marietta. I've been to the Marietta Square on a few occasions for festivals and to just visit the shops there. It just makes me feel good to be there. Recently I visited for the Taste of Marietta and it was a wonderful experience with vendors not only located in the square, but from all over town.
