Well I have to say that it may be Korean abstract art, but it screams "art school dropout". Hey look! There's a predominate brown smudge and a squiggly line! Hey look! The background whites look like the linoleum in my grandmother's bathtub! This could be one of the worst exhibits I've ever seen in my entire life. I was told by people in the know to avoid this show because of the "non objective art", but that only peaked my interest, and thank the Canyon Road Gods that NuArt Gallery has FREE PARKING in the back... Smudge smudge... Squiggly line... White or off-white background... Soo 1992 San Francisco chic... Names of each painting that reek of baby words like, "Ogo", "Sim-Sim", and the incredibly inane ""Gago"... I'm surprised that diapers weren't included! The best part of the entire gallery show is the fact that two of the paintings, "Ogo" and "No Sori" are already sold with a collective asking price of over $23,000!!! Holy crap! There's a sucker born every minute! The staff people at NuArt were great. They must be commended for their poker faces when it comes to explaining the contemporary aspect of this show... If I was their boss, I'd give them a raise. Oh yes, and no free WiFi, which dings this show a star in my book. I will say that this show must be seen to be believed. Ouchie!!!

Also found the various brown rabbits sitting about on the floor interesting. Owner showed me work by that particular artist, saying, "rabbits are his thing". He was gracious in dashing off to meet friends at The Shed, saying prices are just talking points. He loves to negotiate.

The originals paintings by Ms Schwaiko are all expensive (for us) but the prints are much more reasonable and reachable. The person we were visiting in NM had a print and it is stunning. I loved the sculptures the most. Small as well as some quite large ones displayed in the back garden. We picked up a small sculpture that we could not resist. Jane Cassidy, an artist whose work is displayed in the gallery as well, was very gracious and friendly to us. She showed us around the gallery and spoke about Jill's work extensively. We did not know she was one of the artists having a work displayed there until I mentioned how much I liked a piece in the window on the way out of the gallery, LOL. A piece that was very tempting as well. Madrid is well worth a visit if you are in NM, and the Indigo gallery should definitely be visited.

I worked on a landscape inspired by the hills of Taos, and what really stood out wasn't just the painting itself--it was how the whole evening felt. Laura and Mickey are wonderful teachers. They guide you step by step in a way that's clear and supportive, but never rigid. There's a real encouragement to follow your own vision, to experiment, and to not take it all too seriously. It creates this relaxed, creative energy where you can actually enjoy the process instead of worrying about getting it "right." The whole space feels warm and welcoming, and it's easy to settle in and just paint. By the end of the night, I felt both proud of what I made and inspired to keep going. If you're looking for a fun, supportive place to explore painting, I'd definitely recommend checking out a class here.

When we returned from our walk through other galleries, I noticed the door was ajar. I took a chance and pushed the door. It opened right up. I did find a masked art associate and made sure the gallery was open. It was indeed open and the associate ran off to change the sign to "Open". We like to visit to see Woodrow Nash's African sculptures. He tends to work large with his ceramic sculptures. You can also see his work in the gallery window.
