I was looking for a home safe for basic needs and had gone to a store in Novato that was useless. These guys are great! I had no idea what to get and Kevin spent a good 15-20 minutes on the phone talking me through the options and different sizes. Marin Lock & Safe saved me! They were able to unlock an old cabinet that was jammed & locked. I called several locksmiths and they do not do old furniture anymore. It is a lost art. They still have the old keys to try and fit old locks. The head guy had to come out to get it unlocked, after another employee had already tried. The lack of 5 stars is because I had to call about 6 or 7 times and leave messages and texts through Yelp. I had to be relentless! Communication in the office is horrible. read more

Replaced a perfectly fine bolt that didn't need replacing and decided to tack on $240 for ...? Happy to pay people for their time but this is absurd. read more

I need to have keys made a lot and have used local hardware stores who do NOT calibrate their key cutter so the keys are slightly off. (sad face to Goodmans) Of course you have to go back to test the key to find out if it really works. This company makes great keys and are always spot on. I had to copy some floor lock keys for an older elevator. Those are odd keys with round key part. NOBODY even in the city had those key blanks. Marin Lock and Safe did. That was a relief. Friend went by during normal hours to have some duplicate keys made and they were out, emergency. She called the store and Greg agreed to meet her after hours to get the keys made. While there, I discussed an issue I had with my Baldwin front door lock, replacement cost $1,100, and Greg managed to come out the next day. He took it all apart and put it back together and now its working as or better than new. Greg is a craftsman, many probably would have tried to sell me a new system. He was happy to fix it even though it took him over an hour and a half. Did it for same flat rate he quoted. read more

When I called to see what happened, they denied ever having agreed to, but they would show up that night, if possible, or at the very latest on Friday between 2-4. They did not show up that night, so I called this morning to confirm that they would be here today - Friday - between 2 and 4. They said yes. At 3:15, I called to see if they were on their way. I would give Greg a 10-star if I could! I call Marin Lock at 8am as I couldn't get in my house using the keys I got. Greg arrived quickly in about 45 mins and helped me get in. I got my keys from other lock smith and automatic key stations but most of them don't work well. Greg made me a few new keys quickly and they work perfectly. Love these guys!! Took in a high end double keyed dead bolt lock that had broken, I could see the snapped off flange inside the cylinder. I'd bought it from Home Depot a year ago. Kevin looked at it and said, OK, come back in 15mins. I did some other shopping and returned, the lock fully repaired, the charge was $6.50 plus tax for an absurd total of just $7.07. messed up a $30 key and refused to replace it. extremely disappointed. -automated machine was not properly programmed to cut this key, leaving a portion of the slot at less than full depth. -attempted to rough it in with a manual machine -offered to "finish" existing key with subsequently updated machine programming; this is not an option because there are places on the roughed-in key that do not match up to OEM already, making it junk. -when i left they were to call me when they determined whether or not they could source a replacement OEM key. i never got a call. -after calling twice i got a call back (voicemail). subsequently, had to call two more times and wait the better part of a day for a return call. "we are not responsible for keys that customer's bring in" he claimed the roughed-in key matched the original key; it was burred to hell and clearly differed in multiple places -it seems to me they do not want to take responsibility for the work they agree to take on, and in addition, have very low standards of what constitutes acceptable work. read more

Needed a Lexus car key cut and the Lexus service dept told me to go to Marin Safe and Lock on 3rd street. The young men that were there were very knowledgeable and had my key done in five minutes so I could go back to Lexus to have it programmed. If I had not brought my own key that I got online, they would have been able to make me one just knowing make, model and year. So if I decide to have a third one made I don't have to go through getting one online again. What he quoted me was probably one third of the cost I would have paid to have Lexus supply one.
