I bought my condo in 2019. A couple of years ago, I had my kitchen door replaced and scheduled Transbay Lock to re-key it so both the front and kitchen doors would use the same key. At the time, I didn't realize my front door wasn't Schlage (like the kitchen door), so it couldn't be done. This is about making an extra key for your car, whether it's the kind with electronic gizmos built in or simply of the old school mechanical type. You need these, unless your car is keyless which I simply don't trust. You never know when you're going to drop your key down a storm drain which is what I did. Anyway, Kevin is the resident car guy here. Their prices aren't like when you bought a blank and the hardware store clerk put the old key and blank side by side and in about a minute he had cut another key for you. Not today, not for $5 or $10 either. The market is set by the car dealers which I checked first, and Transbay is about a third less, and they can make it today. The mechanical keys without electronics and battery are half as pricey. Guess which I went for. read more

I was never contacted about the delay and once locksmith arrived they used a very cheap lock to fix the problem, I will never use this company again read more

I understand this business has been around for multiple generations - but don't think it will survive the youngest member. He is incrediby cocky. My gate sags from weather. It is an easy fix - there are products out there to address saggy gates. I hired the father to fix the gate but the son came instead. As predicted, after installation - the gate shifted due to weather; and while the new jamb they installed worked as designed - the strike plate was not built up enough. Merely had to add another strike plate that would have cost under $5. I pointed this out at that time. He said it was not necessary. The gate shifted and while the jamb was goodthe gate did not stay closed since the strike plate was not built up enough. the son came back to look - refused to take responsibility . I left a message for the father - he never had the courtesy to respond. Obviously the golden heir gave him a different story.... I went on Amazon, bought the new strike plate and installed it myself. The gate now stays shut and it took 3 minutes to fix. read more

There are few things I like more than working with professionals. I am happy to say that Transbay lock falls into that category. Sometimes you cannot really know the value of a thing until you have something to compare it to. I was having some lock issues on a front door and the latch would not engage when the handle was activated. In my attempts to solve it, I consulted with another locksmith who charged me more and did not resolve the issue. Enter Transbay Lock who was happy to assist. What is going on at this place? I took a key to be duplicated and all 5 failed to work. I figured it was just a oversight so I took back for a 2nd round and those failed so I gave up on that. I had another need for service for a sagging Emtek door knob, figured I'd give this place another try. I spoke to a very knowledgeable guy, said he would order the part and should be available in a week or two. It's been almost a month and I've called multiple times, spoke to a young guy who said the owner who knows everything isn't around to ask where the part is, he's always out in the field. I'd like to support this local business but with their lack of interest in keeping me informed or keeping their employees informed about what's going on is too frustrating... so I have to move on. I'd suggest the same to anyone who wants to be a valued customer! read more

Unfortunately the new team is nowhere near as capable as the previous owner's staff. Of the last 5 jobs I brought them they failed at 4. Even copied keys didn't work, which was never an issue n the last 4 decades I have been using this shop. When I walked into Transbay there were 4 people in line with key or lock issues and one guy working the counter. I was about to leave and come back later when locksmith #2 came from the back, finished his business with whom he was working and took the next guy in line without missing a beat. The next 3 people were in and out in less than 5 minutes. I had an unusual key from an older Italian motorcycle which I needed duplicated. After having called and run around to multiple places to get duplicate car keys made for my wife's 2005 Pontiac Vibe, I had now hit a dead end with some hours lost and two key copies that only partially sorta' worked on the doors and not in the ignition. Everybody who previously tried to help me were nice ,and didn't even charge me but until I walked in and back out of the door at Transbay, I still had the problem I started with. Then - Elapsed timeline: :00 sec I walk in door at Transbay . :10 sec "What can I do for you? " I tell nice guy behind counter what make and year car. I put the new duplicate keys that don't work on counter. :60 "Mmm. I see. Wrong blank, too thin." Walks to wall, pulls blank, puts on machine and copies original, brings new key back. "Car here?" Yup. "Try that" How much will this cost. "Don't worry. Try it." 3 min Works GREAT! Thanks ! How much do I owe you? "$4.50" Can you make me another copy ? "Yup" Total ET under 5 min - Both keys tested and paid for , door squeaks as I close it behind me as I leave. You guys are now my go to lock and key gurus !!, say I as I close the door behind me, and just now noticing the giant Seinfeld {Kramer , George, et al} posters on the back wall. I bet there's a story there I think to myself. I'll have to ask next time I come back. Time-and-time again, Transbay is the best. We had our front door lock assembly fall apart when someone (me) shut the door a little bit hard. We took it in, as they were booked for house-calls that day, and they fixed it in a couple of minutes, and didn't charge a thing! We made an appointment for a house call as our keys are wearing down and some don't open all of the locks and some of the locks are getting a bit funky. They are on it! If you are looking an honest, trustworthy locksmith, and if GREG'S LOCKSMITH is not available, Go to TRANSBAY SECURITY SERVICE. They charged me 1/4(!!!) of what Honda of Marin was going to charge me. I lost my Honda car key at home. I knew I would eventually find it, but my spare was falling apart. I went to Marin Honda. I was using the key with only half of the housing. I asked Honda of Marin if they could just replace the housing. They said, "No" and the cheapest they could do was $190 for a valet key!!! That's just $30 less than what they would charge me for the key with all of the remote options working. I wasn't going to take this sitting down. I called called my go-to locksmith, GREG'S LOCKSMTH. He's the best! He Goes on location and installed a solid security system in my home for at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, he was not available. There was only one thing to do... LOOK ON YELP! I called TRANSBAY SECURITY SERVICE. His response - " Yeah we can do that now"! I talked it over with them and they removed all of the digital electronics from that flimsy half of housing, I was using and put it in new housing. They charged me $50! You do the math. This an old fashioned locally owned locksmith that has been in business since 1964; If you live in Marin you've driven past it a milion times near the beginning of the Miracle Mile on your way to to San Anselmo. I had been trying to find the keys to the BMW motorcycle hard cases and finally gave up. I called a few locksmiths, however, most were mobile and did not have a brick and mortar store. I found Transbay Security Service in San Rafael. I brought the hard case to Anton's shop and he was busy, but made time for me. WHOA!!! These guys are great!! I go into the shop which I have seen since I was a little boy, and seems to be one of the only locksmiths around that don't work out of a stupid truck. The story goes like this: Lost my only motorcycle key to an old bike, and needed a key to be made. Looked all over the internet, found out that taking the ignition out makes it faster, and cheaper. I find a place online that a guy in the bay area reviewed. They must be pretty good too, but they were all the way out in Potrero Hill. I didn't think I had another choice as everywhere locally I called told me that they do not work on motorcycles. I go and pull my ignition out, and decided to ride my bike down the street to Transbay, as I always saw locksmith on the window driving by when I was young. I walk in the door and right away they are friendly, and attentive. I pull the ignition out of my backpack and was ready to explain that it might be after-market and what is the best thing to do. BEFORE I COULD OPEN MY MOUTH he takes a look at it still in my possesion and says "That looks like an old Honda ignition." SOLD!! This guy knows what he is doing. "I need some keys made" I say to him. He says sure, I need to see if we have any blanks. The keys are a bit rare. He comes back, and I figure they were gone. Nope. He has some. Then I get the price, and let's just say this place rocks. Almost half the price as the cheapest competitor I found, and it was local! Great Service, Extremely Efficient, Very Intelligent People, and GREAT PRICES. I will never use another locksmith. I can't recommend these guys enough! read more

So a guy walks into a locksmith and says "I need some new keys cut for my Lexus, here are the blanks I got elsewhere" and the locksmith says "well I'm happy to cut 'em but there are no guarantees that they'll work since I can't vouch for the key blanks" so the guy says "I get it, won't hold you responsible if these cheap blanks I bought online don't work" and so the locksmith comes back with the cut keys and says "here try them both" and so the guy tries them and one works and the other doesn't so the locksmith says "I thought it felt funny in the machine, give me another crack at it" and so the guy does and then they BOTH work fine and the guy leaves after paying his forty bucks and says to his wife "Sheesh THAT was a great deal!" These are the PROS in Marin county. Worth a drive from wherever you are to make sure your keys/locks are done right. Thanks all! read more

I recently moved into a new home and needed six locks re-keyed and a deadbolt swapped so I could install a smart-lock deadbolt. I initially called another one-man-band locksmith with a five star review. He came out and after wasting a half hour of my time explaining the intricacies of each lock, he proceed to explain that four of my 6 locks required a "special tool" and he didn't want to risk breaking them. He re-keyed the two others and swapped the deadbolt and charged me a ridiculously high fee considering he did 1/4 of the work I called for. The next day I went to use the deadbolt and it wouldn't close without a lot of effort, making it useless for a smart-lock. I had him come back and demanded my money back. I was going to give the guy a 1 star review and explain this on Yelp, but considering he knew where I live and potentially could have a key to my house, I decided to take the higher ground. After calling a friend in the area he highly recommended Transbay Security Service. They came out today and within an hour had everything completed to perfection for half the price. And they even were able to get the "special tool" called a paperclip to re-key the tricky ones. They now have a customer for life. I hight recommend Transbay! read more

I went to 2 other places to get a copy of a rather funny looking key made- neither Raphael lumber or Home Depot could match it.
