We asked would they be able to take on our case before the tax deadline (a month or two before), they said they could and I pretty much provided all the documents needed in a few days. However a month or two later just before the deadline we were assigned to someone called Steven Daniel - he was without a doubt the absolute worst person we've ever dealt with in terms of client experience. He would ask us stupid questions like can we convert an image to a document for him to which I pointed out there are plenty of tools online for that. They filed an extension without telling us we would be liable for any interest. A month or so passes and they then start following up with questions saying they are nearly done. Another month passed and they upload the preliminary tax bill into their portal without telling us. The tax bill was a lot higher than expected, I clarified this with Chris, sent the money to the IRS and he said nothing more was needed. Another month passes and Steven emails us asking would we like to file the tax return. WTF Steven?!? The man is clearly an absolute imbecile and did not work out when I said we have paid the IRS (for which he was in the email) this means file the bloody return?!? I get a call from Chris apologising saying they will cover the interest. To this date I have never received this despite sending them the interest bill I paid off for several hundred dollars. For the luxury of all this madness, they charged me $1500. At that price I would be expecting a fairly high end service, this was beyond belief - I cannot fathom how they are happy to charge this for some of the worst professional service I have ever experienced. In short, steer clear unless you have more money than sense - if you hear the name Steven Daniel, run and do not look back.

Frederiksen-Crawford has been doing our taxes for 4 years now and every single year they do a fantastic job leaving us consistently pleasantly surprised at the end of tax season. Our taxes are moderately complicated with some W2 stuff, some self-employment business stuff, rental property, property sales (capital gains), etc. and while some firms I have worked with in the past struggled to get it all correct and submitted on time, Frederiksen-Crawford has been meticulous about getting it all correct, on time every single year. They are professional, informative, easy to work with, diligent, and effective and make what could be a painful tax season feel fair and relatively painless. Thank you Frederiksen-Crawford! We'll see you next year.

She charged me over $2000 and did no better than TurboTax. And to make matters worse, she never took responsibility for her work. I wasn't able to give her a review before because she disappeared online. Now she's apparently back. Oh and she was working from Hawaii at the time, although advertising as if living in Sausalito.

AVOID This INCOMPETENT CROOK. Paula refused to respond to me until after I posted my initial Yelp…read morereview with screenshots proving her wrongdoing & filed a complaint with the California Board of Accountancy. I would've preferred to resolve this privately, but some behavior is so egregious that it cannot be ignored. On October 14th, she tried extorting an additional $250 from me ahead of the October 16th CA tax deadline on top of the $3,247 I had already paid her for a rejected return that had to be corrected and re-filed hours before the deadline due to her mistakes (screenshot below). Paula refused to respond to my emails & calls, yet somehow found time to respond to my Yelp review when she should've been focused on accurately re-filing my return. She can't even refute my post because the truth speaks for itself. Instead, she resorts to gaslighting & falsely claiming that I gave her inaccurate information. Rather than apologize and make things right, she attempted to publicly blame me for her error which demonstrates her complete lack of accountability. The only thing chaotic and disorganized is her manual client intake system. (See screenshots of her 42 page "tax organizer" that you have to manually fill out unless you purchase an Adobe subscription). She thrives in chaos because it enables her to charge additional fees for exchanging back and forth emails instead of replacing her inefficient document management system. I sent Paula multiple filing status clarification emails BEFORE the tax deadline (screenshots below). She didn't "donate" any time. It's an insult to anyone's intelligence to claim such nonsense after she received $3,247 for a rejected individual tax return. To add insult to injury, she brazenly demanded another $250 to correct HER mistake. When I refused to be extorted, she backed down and made the correction she should've made all along (an admission of guilt, although someone like this never explicitly admits when they are wrong (screenshots below). The updated return was half the length of the original, and since she refused to explain the discrepancy & has forbidden me to call for clarification, I hope the new return is accurate (screenshot below of me requesting clarification & her non-response). It never should have come to this, but bullies and con artists like Paula should never be acquiesced to. Beware of this wolf in sheep's clothing who seems pleasant and polite on the surface. Charm is deceitful. When people show you who they are, believe them.

I think she is great.

I must admit my original review was a little bit of a lie because it wasn't my personal return I experienced this with but my clients return. Everything else was true about the situation - I just didn't want to write all the details because I didn't want her to be able to trace this back to me. But enough time has gone by so I wanted to come back and strengthen my review.... For credibility sake - I am ranked as one of the top financial advisors in the country by Forbes Magazine. I have 20 years in my industry and have always been ranked top in my industry. I have dealt with many tax preparers and many different types of client tax situations. I am also personally trained to do tax returns. So I speak from a lot of experience when I say - please understand this tax preparer is not okay. I have run into many weak tax preparers over the years...often they are mom and pop shops. But she stands out as one of the worst.

She's also wants the best solution for you. Even though she is a GREAT advisor and when I have the money, I will totally spend it on sessions with her, I was reluctant to drop the money at this juncture for some financial help because I'm in the red... so she made a few suggestions that saved me a lot of money. She has many ways of helping people with their finances to meet people where they are in their process. Last year she sent out one of her regular newsletters and she issued a challenge to set a goal for the year. He's incredibly thorough and detail-oriented - he double and even triple checks everything to make sure your return is accurate and that he has all the right information. He's also very responsive and flexible with scheduling, which has made it easy to fit tax meetings around a busy workday. Chris really shines with more complex situations. He specializes in startups and equity compensation (ISOs, RSUs, etc.), as well as investment portfolios, so if you work at a startup or have a more complicated tax situation, you're in great hands. He takes the time to walk through everything, explains complex issues clearly, and makes the whole process feel much less stressful. He goes above and beyond by looking at prior years and making amendments if necessary to put you in a better position for future tax years. I originally started working with Chris based on a friend's recommendation, and after three years as a client, I'm very glad I did. If you're a startup employee or founder, or anyone dealing with equity and investments, I highly recommend Chris at FlexTax.

This firm went from exceptional to completely unprofessional overnight…read more I stayed with them for years solely because of Sam, who provided outstanding service. After the ownership change, it's clear that level of care is gone. What replaced it is a rigid, impersonal system that treats clients like transactions rather than relationships. They failed to notify clients of a major policy change regarding tax extensions until just days before the deadline--putting me at risk of non-compliance. When I raised concerns, their response was essentially: "This is our policy now, and if you don't like it, go somewhere else." No accountability. No attempt to fix the situation. No access to leadership. Just scripted responses from a support team. For a firm that benefited from years of loyalty and referrals, this is an incredibly poor way to treat clients. Avoid. UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO OWNER : Your response proves my point. After years of automatically handling my extensions, you changed the process right before a deadline, offered no real support, and told me to pay $240 or figure it out myself. Had I not followed up, I could have been penalized -- and now you're trying to turn it around and frame it as my fault by calling me "not engaged." After years of loyalty and referrals, this wasn't a transition -- it was a downgrade to a transactional model.
